Dynasty Marcus Lattimore value (1 Viewer)

What's up with the low dynasty rankings for Lattimore? I realize he's had some terrible injuries but the 49ers believe in him and there's not much standing in his way for a starting job in great RB offense.

I understand not having him in the top 30 but not ranking him above proven bums like McFadden and Stewart, who are already 27 - over 4 years older than Lattimore.

Do people truly value him less than a 28 year old Joique Bell or a 29 year old MJD?
You are undervaluing Hunter.
I like Hunter plenty but I see his upside ceiling as at most a 1A type of back given his size, injury, and lack of elite talent. I'm not saying he can't or won't be a 225-250 type back for a stop gap year or two but teams want a stud at any position and I see more stud potential in Lattimore than Hunter. He certainly was the stud of college football his freshman year. He was named the top freshman as a true freshman. Really sad that we maybe won't have gotten to see a HOF type of guy in the NFL. Still, we're looking at a McGahee type career trajectory as a ceiling perhaps. Elite blue chip that went on to have a very solid career.

Thing about it is, with the success of SF as a team, their run based offense with a studly O line, and a great coach and front office, it won't take elite performance even from their feature back to throw up stud FF numbers. This is where the appeal comes from Lattimore in dynasty. In my opinion, he's a SICK value right now given his ADP in dynasty. Look forward past 2013 and there is tantalizing upside for sure.
I don't doubt Lattimore's upside, but Hunter isn't going anywhere and he would get most of the carries should Gore go down. Lattimore's value may reside more in 2016 or 2017 than 2014 or 2015.
Where do you come up with these ideas? Would anyone be that surprised if Hunter was cut or not resigned or just generally fell out of favor? And why would he get most of the carries if gore went down in 2014?

Seems clear to me that Hunter and James fill one roll in that offense, as COP backs, and Gore and Lattimore fit another roll, and its lead RB.

Seems to me Hunter's best contribution would be as a 1B, COP, and third down back.

Alrighty then....

James - 5'9'', 195 lbs

Hunter - 5'7'', 200 lbs

Gore - 5'9'', 217 lbs

Lattimore - 5'11''. 221 lbs.

Why would they draft a guy and rehab him for an entire year (he's completely healthy now)... and continue to "use kid gloves" with him, until 2017 (when he'll be in the last year of his contract), to finally see what they have in him? I doubt they will use "kid gloves" in order to avoid an injury with Lattimore, if he's going to get injured again then he's going to get injured again, there aren't some kid gloves that will prevent another injury. If he gets re-injured then he'll probably just be cut, and they won't have wasted much other than a 4th round pick.

A 4th round pick is very valuable to NFL teams by the way. I'm just saying not to dismiss Hunter so easily.

I'm not, I like his upside if he leaves SF next year, but think Lattimore would have to prove ineffective or get injured again for him to be the starter in SF.

You might be right.....might.

I like Lattimore a lot in dynasty. Him getting a full year to recover / rehab after the devestating injury with a team like the 9er's was the best thing that could have happened to him. With the medical field catching up to the needs of a surgically repaired knee in the league I don't think he'll miss a beat from where he was healthy. He got the ability and the situation to be great in this league IMO.

I'll take him over any of the rookie RB's coming in this season.

ETA: I'm not concerned about Hunter whatsoever. I think he's a decent back and has done well when given the opportunity, but he's just not special in any way and won't be able to keep a healthy Lattimore off the field IMO.

This.

Rotoworld:

Because 49ers RB Marcus Lattimore spent all of last season on the reserve/non-football injury list, his rookie contract "tolled" for 2013, and he is now under contract through 2017.
Lattimore's catastrophic knee injury occurred in college, and therefore he was eligible for the "non-football injury" list because it didn't happen in the pros. Still only 22 years old, Lattimore is the age of most incoming rookies. He is expected to be given every opportunity to earn carries in training camp, and perhaps form a "three-headed monster" with Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter.

Looks like Lattimore's value just sunk like a stone...
If this is the prevailing thought, I will be buying everywhere. Just because Hyde is the hot rookie name on everyone's lips doesn't mean he is better than Lattimore. This could easily end up being "hyde's value just took the JSTEW express train to dudville"

U could very well be right. Could hurt Hyde more than Lattimore. Hunter may be worthless now however.

Yeah, have to figure hunter is worthless until he goes somewhere else. He likely is the odd man out..
