Dynasty owners not interest in FF any more (1 Viewer)

I have been a commish of a 10 team $ dynasty league for 9 years know. We started as a keeper and then went to the dynasty format about 5 years ago. So I guess we have been a true dynasty for 5 years. I have noticed 3 originally owners are not into FF as they use to be. All 3 use to be diehards. They showed up to the draft with no rookie info or cheatsheet, had to use mine. And little things like not cutting their rosters down to the limit of 22 players after the draft and not accepting or rejecting trade offers.

My questions are.

Is this common in dynasty leagues?

Do some FF players just get tired of the dynasty format?

What can I do to get them more into it again?

Has any of your dynasty leagues gone belly up?

Note: They all have good teams. All 3 teams if managed right will compete for the title.

This is not typical of my dynasty league. We have 12 owners who are rabid. Some are more involved than others in the off season, but there's usually a fair amount of trading that occurs. These people take things serious and want to win badly.

Yes, some players get tired of the format, but you also have to come up with new ways to keep it fresh. This is the most important thing that you as a commish can do. Just because it's dynasty doesn't mean it has to be stagnant. Stagnant = boring. And boring = low interest level from owners. First thing I would do is reduce the number of keepers from 22 to 13. This will make the re-stocking draft actually matter. I would also hold the drafts at different times. We have our college draft in April after the NFL draft and our re-stocking draft in late August (it's going on now actually). Another rule change that we initiated two years ago is a college roster. This has infused the league with new life. And it makes all the owners stay more involved because they have to be aware of even more players.

What can I do to get them more into it again?

I would ask them why they seem less involved. Ask them what would make them more into the league. They might surprise you with some good ideas.

Has any of you dynasty leagues gone belly up?

No, find new owners. It will be rare that a bunch of formerly diehard fans all decide to quit in the same year. Even if you lose half the owners there are ways to keep the league afloat. Find replacement owners or just play with fewer teams. But do whatever you can to keep the league alive.

Can not kick them out. They still pay and set their line ups each week. Plus 2 are VERY good friends(one of 30 years and the other of 10 years) and the other is my brother.

I have found new or replacement owners are really into FF and good for the league. I have about 2 replacemnet owners at this time.

I had four owners just drop out of my dynasty league this year, about a month before the planned draft. They all had very very good teams, in fact one was the repeat champ last year (and the year before). We ended up adding four new owners and redrafting teams from scratch.I tihnk with a dynasty, you need to start over every few years to not stagnate.

We changed our dynasty structure after the first three years because about half the guys lost interest. Well, not so much interest, as the will to play hard. They hadn't won anything and their teams were not in any position to change that. Their complaints were, they had no chance at most of the great players ever, which kind of bummed them out, One guy was a Chargers fan, and was upset that he would never have a chance at LT, no matter what.So we started over (sadly, my team was looooaaded) switched to a salary system with a cap, and all players increase by $10 every year. Making even LT a tough hold after 3 or 4 years. This year was awesome, SA, Manning, LT, Barber, Moss, Holt, etc. were all available and in order to shed cap space to get them, a bunch of great midlevel players were too. This is year 4 of the new system and it has really been a great move, everyone is very involved.

I think starting over at any time defeats the idea of a dynasty leagues.

People's priorities and interests change over time, especially 9 years. Find new owners and move on. It's really that simple.

I'm sure he had good people in the beginning. Like I said, people's lives change, so do their interest. It's not like we are married to this hobby. I'm pretty sure some day I won't have any interest in it as well.

I'm in a 12-team dynasty at xpertsports & to be honest the league ####### sucks. No talking whatsoever. If it were a big $$ league, perhaps I'd understand. But it's not.

I'd love nothing more than to bring in another league for a second conference in the league just to get more interaction.

And yet, it's what most NFL team do... teams, especially with free agency end up rebuilding every 5 years or so...But I like the salary cap idea alot too...

We started a dynasty league in 1994 on a whim. We could only find 8 interested owners. So we tweaked the rules to start 2 qb's, 4 rb's, 6 wr's/TE's and 1 kicker. It is a 32 man roster plus 2 player developmental squad. If you are on the developmental squad you must remain there for the entire year. Then you are not eligible for it again. We keep our full roster every year and have a 10 round rookie/FA draft in June. We them have to release 10 players by the start of the season. We are allowed 8 pickups throughout the season but those players return to the FA pool for the following years draft. Willie Parker was avaialble this year, Gates in 05 and Tom Brady in 02. In our draft each year the 8th place team picks 1st in every round so it is possible to rebuild rather quickly. There is a fair amount of trading between the NFL draft and our draft. Sometime we even work in conditional picks. Only 4 of the 8 original owners remain.
