Dynasty & Redraft: TE Jace Amaro, Titans (1 Viewer)

Besides Decker there is no other offensive weapon for the Jets - I think he gets more and more targets as the schedule gets easier....legit backup now and could be top12 by year end - buy while you can.

Guy has some awful drops. Makes me wonder if he getting targets because there's nobody else vs talent.
Totally correct - him and Decker are the only game in town....he will have some horrific drops but his targets are on the upswing and he does make some plays...

Even with the drops, which have been frustrating, his catch percentage on his targets has been very high, which tells me that he's very good at getting open. I'm not saying he'll be a TE1 moving forward, but he should be 2nd on his team in targets, and I doubt many other TEs who are available on the waiver wire can say that.

Jace Amaro - TE - Jets

Jace Amaro (knee) was upgraded to "full" in Tuesday's practice.

Amaro is simply dealing with a tweak. Coming off a 10-catch breakout against the Broncos, Amaro will be a mid-range TE2 against one of the league's better tight end defenses in the Patriots.

Bought this guy a couple weeks ago as a future investment, didn't expect him to have a game like he did last week.

After watching Kelce rip the Pats apart a few weeks ago and with the Pats having LB issues, is Amaro a borderline must-start tonight? Well, as much as one can be with Geno Smith throwing the ball on a short week on the road.

With Revis covering Decker and no other legit targets, I wonder if Amaro's snap count is going to go up even more to give him another strong performance.

hard to imagine him getting more targets than he did last week at 12.

Not saying his target count is likely to go up. But if he gets 12 targets again, his catch rate has been really high this year.

And he played on a season high 55% of the snaps last week. If his SNAP COUNT goes up, I imagine his targets may be at or close to what they were last week, which could lead to a big game.

Just not sure whether or not to trust it. And even if it's a blowout again, it'd lead to a lot of garbage passing by the Jets against a susceptible defense.

I'd personally have to start him over Hillman or Ingram, and I'm leaning towards taking the chance tonight and then deciding between the RBs on Sunday.

Starting him tonight in my dynasty. If you're weak at TE and have him, he's worth a shot in the dark. The Jets have only Decker & Amaro in the pass game. It's a risk for sure every week with the QB and offensive play, but the reward, like last week, can be outstanding if it's a hit given the extreme lack of competent receivers. And they pretty much play him as a WR like he did at Tech, so it's almost as if you're getting an extra WR in your lineup.

That drop was BAD. All these targets though, this guy's a gold mine. And he's gonna be a fantastic guy in the red zone as he develops. 3 targets in the first quarter.

Not if he keeps dropping a ball a game that hits him right in the chest. God he's got some garbage hands sometimes.

Starting him this week without any other options (byes and injuries).

Vick at QB, against a tough D, playing away at Arrowhead....what could go wrong?

6/73/1 - he's my "didn't see that coming" pick of the week.

I love that optimism. It might be worth noting that the CBS broadcasters pointed out that Vick missed a wide-open Amaro a few times during the Bills game, so it will be interesting to see if that's something that they worked on during practice this week.

let's be honest here: vick is not an especially accurate passer or known for his "touch". i have more faith in Amaro's abilities to catch - he caught 100+ balls in his last year of college so he's hardly "stone hands" - than vick's ability to throw a good ball.

Rotoworld:

Jace Amaro caught two passes for six yards with a touchdown in Sunday's Week 10 win over the Steelers.

Amaro's touchdown came when Mike Vick hung in the pocket, hung in the pocket some more, and then found his rookie tight end in the back of the end zone from five yards out. Amaro also was featured plenty, tying for the team-high with five targets and getting a 20-yard reception called back by a questionable penalty against Jeff Cumberland. A smooth mover and red-zone target, Amaro will be a decent desperation kind of TE2 when the Jets come out of their bye against the Bills.

Rotoworld:

Jets TE Jace Amaro (concussion) is not expected to play in Monday night's game against the Dolphins.

Amaro sustained a concussion in last week's loss to the Bills. The Jets will have to ride with Jeff Cumberland and Zach Sudfeld. Chris Pantale could be signed off the practice squad.

Rotoworld:

A potential spread offense is expected to benefit Jets TE Jace Amaro.

New offensive coordinator Chan Gailey is an expert at getting his playmakers in space via spread formations. So it's a no-brainer to expect Amaro to take a leap forward in this scheme. He's essentially an oversized possession wideout at 6'5/265 and Gailey will be desperate for difference-makers -- especially if Percy Harvin is cut loose. Amaro is firmly on the TE2 radar heading into his second NFL season.

Rotoworld:

Jace Amaro dropped six passes on 52 targets last year, the second-highest percentage in the NFL.

Only Lamar Miller had a worse drop rate. Amaro's head was spinning as he went from Texas Tech's spread offense to Marty Mornhinweg's West Coast system and he finished with just 38-345-2. Now he has to learn another system, but Chan Gailey's spread scheme fits Amaro's skill set much better. As the clear-cut starter and a playmaker who needs to be detached from the line, there's TE2 appeal here. A higher comfort level should result in fewer drops for Amaro.

Re-drafting the 2014 tight end class

Excerpt:

Jace Amaro, New York Jets

Amaro gives the Jets a big-bodied target, but the second-round pick lacks the burst of Ebron or Seferian-Jenkins on tape. Based on athleticism, Amaro belongs third on this list.

To his credit, the 49th overall pick led all rookie tight ends in catches (38) and receiving yardage (345), but Amaro never looked entirely comfortable on the field.

Geno Smith and Michael Vick deserve some of the blame. One of the league's shakiest quarterback tandems didn't make it easy on a rookie struggling to learn the West Coast Offense. Too many of his six drops -- third most at his position in 2014 -- came when Amaro was alone in space.

Final analysis: The Jets can hope for more games like Amaro's handiwork against the Broncos, when he pulled down 10 catches for 68 yards with a touchdown. The score came off Amaro winning a one-on-one battle with safety T.J. Ward, something we should see more of in 2015.

He's far from a natural after the catch, but Amaro showed promise when Smith led him well on crossing routes. He looms as a better fit for Chan Gailey's spread offense than last year's role. Just don't tell that to Rex Ryan.

Jace Amaro - TE - Jets

ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini believes second-year TE Jace Amaro "could make a nice leap forward" in new OC Chan Gailey's offense.

Cimini confirms Gailey is going to run spread, and Amaro played in a spread at Texas Tech before struggling in Marty Mornhinweg's West Coast offense last year. We don't anticipate Amaro jumping into the top-ten fantasy tight ends as a sophomore, but he certainly could become a viable matchup-based streamer. Amaro is 6-foot-5, 265. He ran 4.6-flat at his pre-draft Pro Day.

Jace Amaro - TE - Jets

ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini does not see second-year TE Jace Amaro as a "60-catch tight end."

Cimini has been underwhelmed by Amaro at practice, saying he needs to cut down on his drops and play with more urgency. Cimini said in May he thought Amaro "could make a nice leap forward" in his second season, but minicamp must have changed his mind. Amaro turned 38 receptions into 345 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie year.

Rotoworld:

The Jets will use second-year TE Jace Amaro as an H-back.
Jeff Cumberland projects to fill in as the traditional inline tight end. Amaro has the athleticism to move around the formation and make plays with the ball in his hands. But he'll need to show in camp that he's corrected his drops issue that plagued him as a rookie. If so, Amaro has a chance to catch 50-60 passes in OC Chan Gailey's spread. Amaro hurt his back at OTAs and missed minicamp.

Jace Amaro - TE - Jets

Jace Amaro is listed as the Jets' third-team tight end on their initial training camp depth chart.

He's behind starter Jeff Cumberland and blocking specialist Kellen Davis. Amaro wasn't impressive in the spring, according to onlookers, and we haven't read anything noteworthy about him since camp opened. It's not a good start to Amaro's sophomore campaign, but he has plenty of time to climb the ranks. Cumberland and Davis don't have the pass-catching upside of Amaro.

Rotoworld:

Jets OC Chan Gailey downplayed the significance of Jace Amaro being listed as a third-stringer on the team's initial camp depth chart.

Gailey stated Amaro was listed No. 3 behind Jeff Cumberland and Kellen Davis simply because the Jets don't list "H-back" -- Amaro's position -- as a separate position on the website depth chart. Amaro does have a chance to play a significant role in Gailey's spread-style offense, perhaps a la Scott Chandler when Chandler was Gailey and Ryan Fitzpatrick's tight end in Buffalo.

Jace Amaro - TE - Jets

Jace Amaro exited the Jets' preseason opener with a shoulder injury.

Amaro appeared to suffer the injury around halftime and was immediately ruled out for the game, which is never a great sign. He finished Thursday night's game without a catch. Amaro led all rookie tight ends in receiving in 2014.

he did fine last year. i wanted him to show and do more this season but whatever. he's still plenty talented.

he's a total crapshoot now. i have held onto him in dynasty because i think he's a talented pass-catcher for the position. whether that manifests itself this year is another story altogether.

Yup, crossing my fingers that he breaks out this year.

Guys like Jace Amaro are great late-round fliers or waiver pickups. If you're holding Amaro this year, by the end you either have someone valuable or you cut bait.

Jace Amaro on way to have breakout year

His numbers were decent in 2014 and show some promise if he got more targets. Amaro will be 24 years old in June and TEs peak at age 25. This is his 3rd season where we see some progress or break outs from players at the TE position. I don't really see how missing last season helps his development (as suggested in above story) and Marshall + Decker take a ton of targets.

Mainly should be looking to see if he can improve on 2014 numbers or not before deciding if/when to move on. 2017 might be a better chance for him to get a lot of targets than 2016.

Yet.....

Coach Todd Bowles confirmed third-year TE Jace Amaro is on the roster bubble.

The Jets' tight end depth is in a sorry state. Along with Amaro, Kellen Davis and Zach Sudfeld round out the top three. The Jets received a league-low 10 catches from their tight ends last season. It's possible they simply don't plan on using the position, instead opting for an extra tackle in blocking situations or using four receivers. Amaro missed all of 2015 with a torn labrum. Yet.....

I read the entire quote from Bowles. It's not especially damning of Amaro. It's more that every guy is fighting for a spot, he didn't see much of Amaro last year because of the injury, and expects him to compete like everyone else. I get that Amaro is a hold over from a previous regime and Bowles has no loyalty to him really. That said, they don't have any better options at the TE position. He might not even be a good fit in this offense given the way it is built.

If you're in dynasty now's the time to buy low. I see him finding a new team after the contract ends. The guy has talent. We all know rookies struggle at the position, and you can't really blame him for the injury. If NYJ wants to give the guy a short leash, that will likely be their loss. This is a guy who had a 10-catch game his rookie year. He goes to a team that doesn't need their TE to block and that's straight cash homie.
