Dynasty Trades That Net a #1 (unexpectedly) (1 Viewer)

Story time.

I'm fishing for anecdotes about strong dynasty teams that got stronger by dealing for another team's #1.

Tell me about deals that seemed plausible at the time, only to become lopsided.

Did someone luck-out with an injury on the other team's roster?

Did the other owner overestimate the strength of their roster?

Did the the other owner underestimate the value of their first round pick?

Taking advantage of another's desperation? ... a push to make the playoffs?

Was there some sort of sick man-love involved?

I'm looking for patterns.

TIA.

EDITED for clarity

Most of the time, from what I've seen, it stems from a preseason or early season deal where an owner thinks he will go far and his 1st rounder won't be worth much.

Let's face it, most of us look through rose colored glasses when evaluating our teams...how many people here thought they would finish among the worst in the league after their draft this year? Yet somebody has to...anything can happen in fantasy football and that team that looked like it was in for a long year with Frank Gore as one of it's starting RB's might not be so bad after all.

I traded the 2005 #6 rookie draft pick for a 2006 1st rounder. That pick became the #2 overall.

I traded that pick for 2 '07 1st rounders and $200 free agent dollars (we receive $500 per year to spend on free agents during the year and restricted free agents in the offseason). Those picks became the 2007 #1 and #5.

OZ gave up Jennings, Greg GBP WR

Rhode Island Bluepointers gave up Year 2007 Round 1 Draft Pick from Moon Scooters;Year 2008 Round 1 Draft Pick from Rhode Island Bluepointers.

At the time Scooters had around the #4 or 5 pick IIRC. the team didn't face any significant injuries, but faced a somewhat tougher schedule after that, and was unlucky.

A couple weeks before this, Blue had made better offers, but I needed to keep Jennings for bye week issues.

This is somewhat unique in that he wasn't trading his own 1st. He was pushing towards the playoffs and WRs are hard to come by in this league, especially young ones performing at a high level.

At one point my team had a record of 2-9. I was in dead last place. I got an offer for my #1 on 07 for Brees, Julius Jones and a #3 in 07. I took it without thinking twice. Turned out that I finished 3-11, but on a fluke of the rules I made the playoffs. The first three playofff spot are decided by division winners, the next two are decided by best records (with points being tie breakers), the last spot is given to the remaining team with the highest point total. And there I sat. I lost the first round by nine points because I played Brees and not Vick. But I won the fifth place game, it made me 30 bucks. Because I made the playoffs my pick position changed. Instead of picking second (another team finished 3-11 with worse points) I would be picking 8th (12 team league). So I got Brees and Jones for the 8th pick in the first round. What is really funny is that I made other trades and they ended up getting me the 6th and 7th pick in the first round. The situation when it arose was posted here.

Nice work, I can't imagine too many owners were willing to part with DWill or Maroney for picks last year. Did you expect the pick to be #1 when the trade was made?
