Edge to get 325 or more carries (1 Viewer)

Just watching NFL network and Whisenhunt was being interviewed, he said he expects Edge to get about 25 to 30 carries on game and have around 325 on the year. Plans to get the lead and run the rock. Sounds good for Edge I think he could do those numbers in that system if that line can perform a little better then last year. Towards the end of last season they did a pretty good job running the ball. Hoping he still plans to air it out and take advantage of that passing game, he would be crazy not to.

25 to 30 carries * 16 games = 400 to 480 carries. Is Whisenhunt predicting an injury to Edge then?

325 at 3.0 per carry is what...?
Colin - You don't think the new staff can do better than 3.0 ypc?
I'm not sure....does the new staff play Right Tackle? ;)
I think there is a good chance that Thomas falls to them. If so, that should give them a good boost.
Agreed. But it may take a year or two.
A year or two for him to hit his potential and be a very good tackle in the NFL? Sure. :o A year or two for him to improve that line? No. :bag:

Edge got over 85% of the RB workload in 2006. He will definitely not get a larger portion than that; he is extremely likely to get a smaller portion.

Those numbers are irrelevant under a new coaching staff, especially one with established running game and o-line coaching credentials. This team figures to run more this year, so Edge could have a far lower carry % and still get the same # of carries.

I thought I had read (heard?) somewhere that the Cards were talking about running the ball 550 times in 07. I doubt they are strong enough to be able to do that, but if that is the plan I question how they plan on using (or ignoring) Boldin and Fitzgerald. I can't remember how I got that number in my head, but I remember coming across it somewhere.

I saw the same NFLN interview of Whisenhunt and what I heard was...

"if we're in the lead, I expect to run Edge 20-25 X's...if you look @ Coach Coward's record, he was like 100-something & 1 w/a 10 point lead in the 4th qtr...that's what I know"

now...how many times do expect AZ up 10 in the 4th qtr, pounding the Edge and running out the clock?

...that's what I thought

It's certainly possible. It depends on if they're behind all the time again.

I am projecting the Cardinals to run the ball 480 total times in 2007 right now but I have not given any carries to the Wrs yet and I may be low on Qb carries. Taking those into consideration that number may climb up to 500.Still despite a likely stronger commitment to the run than the Daknee Green offense I find it hard to project close to a 50/50 run/pass ratio. I expect somthing more like 60/40 in favor of the pass even with a commitment to the running game.I want to see what they do in the draft of course before making final adjustments. Projecting out to 2009 I am wondering if Arrington will get another shot for a bigger role as Edge wears down or what other Rb the Cards will be adding to thier roster. I do not see Shipp being more than a role player moving forward at this point. Currently giving him a slightly bigger share than Arrington.

 I also saw the interview and that is exactaly what he said. And you are exactally right. The cards will never be up by 10 in the 4th.

Believe the initial question to Wisenhunt was along the lines of that Edge has said he wants to carry the ball 350 times this year, how many carries to do you think he will have. When Wisenhunt didn't give a straight answer to this question, Woodson alluded to how Wisenhunt comes from a pound the rock staff and Wisenhunt mentioned Cowards record and and how that could translate into Edge getting 20-25 carries a game .. although from the way he answered got the impression he didn't just mean Edge but rather the running game in general.
