Military threats:IranIraq in the coming yearsChinaPakistanRussiaNorth KoreaMaybe VenezuelaIdeological threats:PakistanNorth KoreaIranMaybe VenezuelaMaybe CubaAfghanistan has the potential SyriaEgyptCultural threats:IranPakistanSaudi ArabiaCanadaNorth KoreaMaybe IraqEconomically:ChinaVenezuela (control of western hemisphere oil)IndiaRussiaSaudi ArabiaMaybe S. KoreaSo I'll vote Iran and North Korea. Biggest potential threats are China, Pakistan and Russia. None of them are our enemy per say, put Pakistan could turn quickly and China and Russia should not be discounted in entering future conflicts on the opposite end of the seesaw. I would enter the EU but unless one or more of the countries became unstable, I only see them as a moderate economic threat. But if Europe is making money, we probably are, too.
What do you mean by 'cultural threat'? And how is it different from 'ideological threat'?

Are you really the pope? I'm confused. Your avatar makes me think you may be. If you're not, shouldn't you be Pope Benedict XVI Fan?

How are these countries cultural threats?
How aren't they is the better question. Most of them are a 180 degree difference than American culture, especially Canada.
I could see making the argument that Canada is the bigger cultural threat than the others in that group. Much like the most popular parts of American culture seeps insidiously across the globe, some of the aspects of Canadian culture could provide alluring to Americans. Those others, not so much.In any case, though, I question the use of the word "threat." I don't feel very threatened by Canadian culture.
I was beign sarcastic. I included Canada in the first place to see if anyone was paying attention. As far as Pope Benedict XVI question:The difference is that ideology involves political motivations when culture does not. Both include religion but Iran uses religion as an ideological weapon, not a cultural weapon. Culture can originate at all levels of society, down to the individual level within a family. To that end a family in Saudi Arabia and a family in the U.S. have very different opinions, values, beliefs and paths based a number of different variables.

Yes, I know what you mean by ideology and culture, and how those countries you listed are different from the US. I wanted to know what you meant by a 'cultural threat'.

Culture is one of the deepest roots. Ours and the perception of the "Vegas lifestyle" permeates in some countries. Al-Qaeda and Islamic Fundamentalists for example, want to destroy our culture. It really has less to do with our government, policies than it does with absolutely hating the America they see in the movies. Hence if certain countries with opposing cultural viewpoints were to gain more power and influence, they may try to initiate cultural wars within the media or at home. This is already being done in certain parts of Pakistan, North Korea, Iran and elsewhere.
