So I have an idea that might help this as well as make things interesting. What about making this a keeper league?
I'm thinking we do a total of up to 6 keepers. That's about 1/3rd of the team. This accomplishes a few things:
1) Makes the draft shorter. While not everyone will keep 6, it still can cut the needed time to draft by 25%
2) Some carry over from last year is good. Both for the owners to keep interest as well as for the bottom teams to have them keep some interest going into the following year. We could actually allow some prospective adds that might kick in for the following year?
3) For the lower teams that don't have as many keepers, they can throw their players back and get a few top picks.
4) We could do a reverse order draft from last year's finish.
I think there's enough turnover from year to year plus with transfers (both good players leaving and good players coming in) that I don't think it's going to allow a team to get too strong. So if a team throws back all 6 keepers and everyone else has at least 2 keepers, then that team will get to pick the top 2 players.
We could make a rule like "you may only keep up to 2 players per position" if you guys think it might help although I don't think that's necessary. If we do this, we can have someone set up a "keeper" email account that everyone submits their keepers by a certain deadline soon and then we can set up the draft order. Those first 6 rounds will go super fast as it may only be a total of 15-20 picks. Next thing you know, we're on round 7 and we can knock it out in 2-3 days if we needed to.
Thoughts?
Part One:
I have no problem with a Keeper League. In fact, I would enjoy this even more if we converted over to a Keeper format.
Even with the Final-Week moves I made last season, I can find ten of the players on my final roster to carry over to this season. (Not all would be starters, so to speak, but the quality is there.) I dropped a couple guys (injured, with no chance of making any team let alone the game-day squad) that would push the number higher.
Part Two:
Your bullet point #1 -- Agree
Your bullet point #2 -- Agree
Your bullet point #3 -- Need to see the details regarding these situations.
Your bullet point #4 -- All my magic football leagues employ this method, not a problem, and certainly equitable, as long as the league membership doesn't change.
Part Three:
The only problem I can see at this time is there are currently sixteen players signed up to take part this upcoming season. That means that all the owners from last season are returning and we have two new owners,
@shader and
@B Maverick. Shader and B Mav don't have any Keeps available due to the fact that this will be their first year. How would this be resolved?
@shader is a Liverpool guy, that means
@The Gator would be able to keep at least two of the players he would seek to add to his team via the Draft along with the owner of Mane and me with E. Can (under-rated,

) further limiting his options.
@B Maverick is a Man U guy, I believe. So, the teams able to carry over Lukaku, Pogba, and De Gea (should he stay), would prevent him from ever having a chance at acquiring those players via the Draft.
And, yes I know, they may not want any of those players. All the same, I make these points from a magic football perspective because we all want guys that are on, "Our Team."
Part Four:
This upcoming season will be my third and ,TBH, I spend more time and energy on this league than any of the three magic football leagues that I commission. I'm just some dude sitting in a shack at the bottom of a hill. However, I can't tell you how much joy and consternation I derive from being part of this.
If we can't get to a Keeper League this season, I would certainly be happy making the conversion next May to go into
2018-2019.
@Sinn Fein @Eephus @Christo thanks to you for all your hard work.
Congrats again to
@JMon348 for his championship
And thanks to
@gianmarco for the well thought out post.
