ESPN Leagues - Tiebreaker question (1 Viewer)

I was watching tonight's game to see who I'd be facing in our championship game, and the game ended with both teams tied 104 - 104. Our league is run through ESPN, and our league settings specify only a setting for regular season tie breakers, which for us is set to simply leave the game as a tie. Obviously that won't work with a playoff game, but I don't see anything that says how ties are dealt with in the playoffs. Does anyone else here know if ESPN leagues use some sort of default tiebreakers, or whether they simply leave that for each league to deal with according to their own rules? Obviously, it would be best if we had our own rule to deal with this, but I don't think we have one so this could get interesting.

We're having the exact same problem. If a tie-breaker isn't in place, you can't put one in now, because you are essentially picking a winner. maybe a good thing to add to the Pinnned "Rules each league should have, if it's not alread in there.)The best things to do are:1) Coin flip2) Drinking contest3) Wrasslin' MatchAs commissioner I've put it to vote (-: (OK - really we're doing a coin flip)Joel

one of my leagues use the team with the most points from thier reserves as the winner, i think this is the most stupid way to do it why would you use a player or players that you didnt start as a tie breaker. i commish 3 leagues and our tie breaker is the qb with highest completion percentage as the tie breaker.

Since my original post, I've gotten feedback from our league manager, who was able to find the section in ESPN's rules that I failed to find. In case of a tie in a playoff game, ESPN awards the win to the higher seeded team, which the league manager can override if the league rules specify something else. Next year, I suspect we'll want to address this in our rules. Net result is I'll be facing the #2 seed with LT instead of the #6 seed with ... well ... nobody nearly so dangerous. Well, I love a challenge!

I'm in the exact same situation, but through MFL. AND I'm the commissioner, AND I'm playing in the game. I get the feeling that no matter what I do, if I win, I may have some angry owners. Unless it's something like a coin flip, but I'd prefer a better way. Either way, we're having a tie breaker added this offseason.

Of course, another rule change we might want to think about for next season (in addition to a clear tiebreaker procedure) would be to use decimal scoring. That would reduce the odds of ending in a tie in the first place.

I prefer decimal scoring, really. In our league that uses that, we've never had a tie in our 6 year history. This is the 3rd in 2 years (though first this year) in one that doesn't use the decimal scoring. However, I don't think that I can use decimal scoring in MFL.

My MFL league has decimal scoring. There is some setting that you can say how many decimal places to take the scores out to. Then just set up the scoring the way you want it.
