The first two days I didn't think either network's actual coverage was much better than the other.
But it's really noticeable how Mike Mayock losing his voice and not being available is killing NFLN's coverage. I've been watching both networks since around noon. Not just flipping, but pausing one and going to watch the other, then coming back and watching coverage on the same set of picks made, and fast forwarding through commercials and draft diaries and fluff pieces from both networks like on Myron Rolle (no offense to him or anyone else, but during the draft I want to hear about the NFL impact of draft picks during the draft, not learn about people's life stories).
If you want to see draft grades, hear interesting stories from Charles Davis and Mack Brown, discussions about things NFL, talk about trades... NFL Network's broadcast has been great. It's been enjoyable to listen to and worthwhile. But it's also 80% the kind of info they could have done in an after the draft show and only 20% draft coverage.
ESPN actually covered the draft today. They totally blew away NFLN in that regard. ESPN is discussing most of the picks in some detail while NFLN half the time would just put up a list of the last 10 picks and maybe mention two or three of them and the rest, all the info you got was just seeing their name on the screen and where they were picked.
Both networks could do with fewer GM or coach interviews and fewer fluff pieces in my opinion, and more coverage about the players still being selected. But NFLN's coverage of the players has been a fraction of what ESPN is providing. I'll also add the crew that ESPN has is much superior to the group ESPN had on the coverage for the first two days, which probably brings them back on par with NFLN in that regard. The ESPN group the first 2 days did get really annoying.
