So to recap... Bruce Jenner won the Espy Courage Award because he is a drag queen
Wrong. The award is named after Arthur Ashe.
..and he beat out the young lady who died of cancer
Wrong. They weren't competing with each other. There is no objective criteria for the award.
And many in here agree with that decision...
The award was not intended to be a referendum of cancer v transgender. It was intended to draw eyeballs to a TV show that exists to make money off of advertising dollars. Giving the Ashe to Jenner raised interest in the show so much, Disney moved it from ESPN to ABC where it could reach and even broader live audience, and still rerun it in perpetuity on their ESPN channels. I agree that the ESPYs producers made an excellent business decision on this one.
What a wonderful nation we live in.
If we've got the resources and energy to argue about this, our lives must be relatively pretty damn wonderful compared to most folks worldwide.
