Not at all. I've seen interviews with Jenner where she seems a little confused and uncomfortable at times. Seeing a 6'2" former man with a deep voice in a white sequin dress and high heels is a little jarring on the eyes. The important thing to do, unlike what GM did in here, is to resist the initial negative impulse and afford the person with the basic rights and respect that all people deserve.

What rights? The right to vote? The right to free speech? He (Jenner) deserves no rights from me. And why is a person owed respect? It's not given freely. It's earned and he hasn't earned mine. If I were to meet him, I'd shake his hand, hold the door as I would anyone - that sort of thing, but that's it. Wouldn't in any way change how I feel about him. What more is one supposed to do if they legitimately feel he's sufficiently abnormal that you want nothing to do with him?

Fair questions. By rights I guess I'm generally referring to civil rights, like the right to vote, marry, fair housing, equal opportunity for jobs... By respect I'm referring generally to the kind of stuff you mentioned, being civilized to the person, canning all the hate and nastiness, especially on Internet chat rooms where young kids struggling with this issue may be lurking.You don't have to like the person, or their lifestyle. And if you see something in that lifestyle that is dangerous to the overall good of society, speak up on it. If there's a study out there that says that transgendered people commit suicides at a higher rate after they come out than before, then speak to that. If you see a study that points to severe mental distress inflicted on the children of transgendered parents, then point to that. But I don't hear any of that in here. Quite honestly all I just hear is a lot of intolerance for something that people are probably creeped out by personally.

In that way I am accepting. But if you want me to call Jenner a woman..well..sorry, can't do it. In my opinion he's a man with something out of the ordinary going on in his brain. It happens. It's not evil, it's not angelic, it's just outside of the norm. Right now it seems that it takes some plastic surgery and whatnot for him to achieve inner peace. I don't think Jenner is insulted by you calling Jenner a man. It's certainly a justified label biologically. And nothing about it reflects an attitude of unacceptance.

But things like "freak", "serious psychological issues", and other derogatory labels aren't justified, and are nothing but expressions of ones negativity towards Jenner, or the transgenders those words are being directed at. They are clearly word choices of people who do NOT accept transgenders.

Obviously Jenner has a preference, but that hardly makes them the correct pronouns to use. Regardless of clothing choices or hormones or surgeries, Jenner is still genetically male. He/him is a perfectly valid choice of pronouns to use.

After being called 'sir' on Thursday's episode of Dr. Drew on Call, trans reporter Zoey Tur wasn't having any more of conservative writer Ben Shapiro's transphobia.

A late-night discussion between transgender reporter Zoey Tur and right-wing columnist Ben Shapiro turned tense on Thursday's episode of HLN's Dr. Drew on Call.

The six guests on Dr. Drew Pinky's show were discussing Caitlyn Jenner's speech at Wednesday night's ESPYs, where she received the Arthur Ashe Award for courage. In what was already bound to be a contentious conversation, Pinsky asked his guests to debate whether Jenner deserved the award.

Inside Edition reporter and helicopter pilot Zoey Tur the only out transgender person on the panel said she wasn't sure that Jenner deserved a sports-related award so many years after her legendary 1976 gold medal in the Olympic decathlon, but she applauded Jenner's courage nonetheless.

"Being brave is being yourself," says Tur. "And being transgender is about the bravest thing you can do."

That's when Breitbart editor-at-large and noted right-wing pundit Ben Shapiro interjected and the trouble started.

"Why are we mainstreaming delusion?" asked Shapiro, before referring to Jenner by her old name and male pronouns.

"It turns out that every chromosome, every cell in Caitlyn Jenner's body is male," Shapiro declared, though he presumably has not obtained a genetic analysis of the Olympian's chromosomes (which aren't inherently gendered, anyway).

As Tur attempted to explain that fact, Shapiro interrupted, asking Tur, "What are your genetics, sir?"

Tur's tone shifted, and she placed a hand behind Shapiro's neck. "You cut that out now," she said. "Or you'll go home in an ambulance."

"That seems mildly inappropriate for a political discussion," Shapiro replied.

The rest of the the commentators laid into Shapiro, calling out his inflammatory comments as clearly intended to be insulting.

But Shapiro continued, apparently unfazed. "It's not a matter of aggressively insulting, he said, returning to his initial point. "The entire discussion is whether we are embracing mental illness and delusion as a society."

After returning from a commercial break, Pinsky gave Tur the floor, to speak about the personal, human cost of being at the center of a media firestorm over one's transition. Stating that such media saturation isn't sustainable, she speculated that "at some point, this all comes crashing down."

"Eventually you find out that you're really in an existential crisis," she continued. "You have to deal with people like [shapiro], the hatred, that come out against you."

"I don't hate you," Shapiro retorted. "I have sympathy for you."

"No, no, you do hate," Tur replied. "You're consumed with hatred. That's who you are. You're a little man."

Seeing a 6'2" former man with a deep voice in a white sequin dress and high heels is a little jarring on the eyes. The important thing to do, unlike what GM did in here, is to resist the initial negative impulse and afford the person with the basic rights and respect that all people deserve.

What rights? The right to vote? The right to free speech? He (Jenner) deserves no rights from me. And why is a person owed respect? It's not given freely. It's earned and he hasn't earned mine. If I were to meet him, I'd shake his hand, hold the door as I would anyone - that sort of thing, but that's it. Wouldn't in any way change how I feel about him. What more is one supposed to do if they legitimately feel he's sufficiently abnormal that you want nothing to do with him?

It's she/her. You show a great deal of ignorance and disrespect by refusing to use the correct pronouns.

Obviously Jenner has a preference, but that hardly makes it them the correct pronouns to use. Regardless of clothing choices or hormones or surgeries, Jenner is still genetically male. He/him is a perfectly valid choice of pronouns to use.

Can't say I have, but if that's the case, then she's using something like Viagra to help out. The hormones taken by someone transitioning to a woman make erections very difficult to achieve, according to my transgender friend.

Can I get a definition of "acceptance" please? I'm going to extend Jenner every courtesy that I would to anyone else. I'm going to offer no preferential treatment one way or the other. In that way I am accepting. But if you want me to call Jenner a woman..well..sorry, can't do it. In my opinion he's a man with something out of the ordinary going on in his brain. It happens. I don't think Jenner is insulted by you calling Jenner a man. It's certainly a justified label biologically. And nothing about it reflects an attitude of unacceptance.

But things like "freak", "serious psychological issues", and other derogatory labels aren't justified, and are nothing but expressions of ones negativity towards Jenner, or the transgenders those words are being directed at. They are clearly word choices of people who do NOT accept transgenders.

I hear you man. But I think people in this thread are getting too sensitive about words. I get that "freak" can have negative connotations even though it can also used to simply describe something out of the ordinary. So out of respect I try to avoid using the word. Let's say you get your way and the word freak is no longer used, and is instead replaced with abnormal, out of the ordinary, or something to that affect. We can agree that transgenderism is not usual, yes? My point is, how long until the new term becomes perceived as hateful due to a certain amount of overzealousness from those determined to stamp out hate, real or perceived? I will try very hard not throw out terms like freak, if you can also try not to throw around terms like hate or bigot so easily. Does that seem fair? And that last statement isn't intended to single you out in the least. I'm trying to be broad (giggles) with that point.

All I care about now is what is causing transgender kids to kill themselves. If certain words contribute to that today, then I'll fight to against them being used.

You are completely right that in the future words that are not derogatory today can become derogatory over time. When that happens then we should do something about that when it happens. Today, calling them "abnormal" I think is okay. That may change in the future.

If people would just change their negative attitudes, then words wouldn't become the projection of the negative attitudes. The issue of words becoming negative isn't a result of the words themselves. It's because the people who use words can be #######s.
