European Refugee Emergency (1 Viewer)

Wifey was asking about this this morning and it got me to thinking. What if anything can be done? These people are fleeing Middle East countries with religious leaders/governments who war with each other and don't tolerate beliefs different than their own. Is Europe just supposed to accept all these people because Europe is "nice" and free? At what point in time does the rest of the world say enough is enough and do something about countries like these or those in Africa that just can't get their #### straight. Or is it hopeless and nothing will ever be done? I'm in the hopeless camp but that doesn't answer how to deal with the current refugee issue.

The solution is definitely not to let them drown in the sea. Something needs to change and quick

They obviously can't accept them all and they can't be responsible for someone that drowns in a random raft in the middle of the ocean.

A lucky few will likely get spread out across Europe. The rest will remain in refugee camps until it's safe to return home.

The first world could absorb a hell of a lot of them and should be in a very quick fashion at this point while a long term solution is worked out.

Maybe these ####ing Europeans should have done something about the extremist problem happening in their backyard.

IMO they are getting what they deserve.

Even God was tired of all the bickering, so he flooded the whole damn place.

Maybe we should start praying more?

Ugh. I think they were cutting their military budgets, worried about rights, and depending on us to be the "bad guys."

Much like we've depended on Israel to be the "bad guys" in the Middle East.

I can't think of a greater human rights abuse than the UN Commission on Human Rights and its attendant declarations.

Truly a joke and a bastardization of the very words.

so in Europe they are called refugee's and in the USA they are called illegal immigrants. intersting.
Oh, please, I get that this is very clever, but we recognize refugees, too. So does Europe also distinguish between immigrants and refugees. The restrictive Euro policies towards immigration are why the displaced (is that better?) are even claiming refugee status. If anything, it's European nods to homogenization that colors this comment, and our tolerance is marveled at by the Euros.

I'm not saying this too stir the pot, it was a reminder/ place holder for when I have more time to comment.Trying to differentiate between the two is becoming increasingly more difficult imo.

Some are eligible for refugee status (the refugees) and some are not (the illegal immigrants). The nomenclature is the same. They are each distinct groups.

Yeah, I can only go on what you've typed and presume your intent, which often winds up badly. My little snarky "is that better?" comment comes off badly in the second reading, and I didn't mean it that way. I'd genuinely like to find a better distinction than refugee/immigrant considering Europe's hostility towards immigrants and the absolutely crushing need for the displaced from totalitarian countries to have a home where they can be free of basic fear.

This, coupled with the recent economic distress in the EU could be a real problem. This kind of stuff is what brings about wars.

Some of the wide-ranging anti-Muslim / refugee sentiment I see rising in Europe is a bit too close to the rhetoric of Anders Breivik for my liking. He killed 93 people including 69 leftist youth campers and released a 1,500 page manifesto summed up with: "I believe Europe should strive for: A cultural conservative approach where monoculturalism, morals, the nuclear family, a free market, support for Israel and our Christian cousins of the east, law and order and Christendom itself must be central aspects (unlike now)."

Refugee: a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.

Too much helium in the balloon.  Some of these European countries going to burst.

If this doesn't stop, Europe will be a hellhole by 2017.
