Thanks for the link -- it was a nice read. Last week's Hard Knocks on HBO featured several cuts, including Rod Gardner's, and was very interesting as well.
Awesome link! Although on a much much much much smaller scale, I could understand what he was saying when he said what he misses most was the violence and the feeling of having a unstoppable force/immovable object collision in front of 90,000 fans. For any of you not fortunate enough to play a contact sport, I really can't explain it, but it's really not about hurting the other guy. It's more about having the guts to go out there and try to cream somebody who's sole purpose is to cream you in front of a stadium full of fans who are gonna judge you an instant after impact. When you do make that perfect hit, you know it even before you here the "ooooh!" from the stands. (Although I had a few good hits that I don't remember that well.) It's a combination of adrenalin and recognition that is impossible to get other than contact sports.
