Explosions at Boston Marathon (2 Viewers)

@_Happy_Gilmore

Boston is probably the only major city that if you f### with them,

they will shut down the whole city...stop everything...and find you.

Maybe I missed something. Why do they always ask if they hate the U.S. ? Maybe they are killers nothing more.
Sometimes, when these kinds of guys are captured, there's an assumption of grand, "important", and understandable motives behind it all. But then when the perps get to talking, it often turns out that the reasons are ridiculously banal: "You blew up the finish line because you couldn't find a job/talk to a girl/had to pay a traffic fine?"

Really will be interested to see if some kind of parsable explanation comes out of all this.
And you can never discout the fame factor and the 'fun' factor (i.e. violence is every where now in movies, in game etc....and it will get to some people). People never believe they are going to be caught.

Chechen President says:

The tragic events took place in Boston. The blast killed people. We have previously expressed their condolences to the people of the city and the people of America. Today, as reported by the media, while trying to arrest a Tsarnaea was killed. It would be logical if he was detained and investigated, found all the circumstances and the degree of his guilt. Apparently, the special services needed by all means to calm the result of society. Any attempt to make the connection between Chechnya and Tsarnaevys if they are guilty, [is] in vain. They grew up in the United States, their attitudes and beliefs were formed there. It is necessary to seek the roots of evil in America. From terrorism to fight the whole world. We know better than anyone else. We wish recovery to all the victims and share the feelings of sorrow Americans. # # Boston # bombing investigation

If I'm reading this right, he's saying that these acts aren't an attack on the U.S. by the Chechen people. It's sensible to spell that out, even though most of us would assume he wouldn't have to.

Today Show (Richard Engel interviewed by Savanah Guthrie) reporting that the group the suspects are linked to is a splinter group of Al-Qaeda
I have heard that the Chechnyan rebels are pretty substantially Muslim, but I'm probably wrong. Still, it wouldn't surprise me to find that they're trying to get back to relevancy.
They're fighting a different fight though. Most of their work is local against Russia and/or the majority Orthodox Christians in Georgia. They're not really globally interested. They're fighting for their home.
Except for all of the ones that have been heading to Pakistan and Afghanistan to kill our troops there. You just forgot that part I assume.

Just heard on the scanner That police are reporting a woman is saying her daughter is texting her she's being held by a man with a gun
What kind of person allows someone to text with a gun at their head at the same time - seems impossible
Unless he wanted them to know he had a hostage but wanted to control the message.
The hostage taking...its such an interesting end to these things. What's the end goal minus you are afraid to get caught or die (and maybe that's the only end goal). its not like they are going to get you a 747 to some deserted island

Thanks, Fagor Kadyrov.

He also may be complaining that the older brother was shot and killed last night in order to calm the American public, with no guilt established. And he also may be suggesting that our society is inherently evil- it's hard to decipher this exactly.

Had no idea that there were Chechen fighters in Afghanistan alongside Taliban loyalists. That's fairly far afield for Chechens ,,, some of them must have a specific beef against the U.S. after all.

After listening to this police scanner for a while, I have to say that a fair portion of people with the MA accent sound like they're SPEDS.

Listening to the scanner is like the Wire episode where Greggs is undercover and wearing a wire... Sense of dread over me

Yeah, I wasn't aware of any Chechen boiling anger at the U.S., but it's looking more and more likely that at least some exists.

It's just some common thread shared by militant Muslims that the West, most represented by the US, is the enemy of Islam. The point is that their Islamic beliefs are what's driving this, not their particular ethnicity.

I just read through his Twitter account timeline. As many have said, it is mostly composed of typical stuff from a college kid. He talks about popular TV shows like Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones. He makes references to rappers like Eminem, Nas, and Jay-Z. And he talks about normal college stuff including girls and taking naps between classes.

He talks a little bit about his Muslim faith and the prophet Mohammed, but nothing too over-the-top or controversial. He does make clear that he believes that Islam is the truth. In November of last year, he tweeted "Free Palestine" and then later said that he was going to make a joke about Hamas, but apparently decided against it.

Other than that, there is not really many signs of anti-Americanism or even Islamic extremism. He does mention that he had an intense dream about killing Abraham Lincoln, but I imagine that could probably happen to anyone after watching one of the Lincoln movies.

CNN keeps showing a map and one of the locations says "apartment of 2 suspects"

college would let a 26yo non-student live in a dorm?
