Explosions at Boston Marathon (1 Viewer)

Whoa, cell phone contact with "subject" inside building reported right now on scanner?
Now mentioning friends from Dartmouth want to contact him or vice-versa (presumably by phone). Sounds like they're talking to him on the phone and the cops are right outside his building (which may have caused him to call law enforcement, perhaps to surrender and avoid getting shot).
what scanner are you listening to?
The one that just went offline.
Yep

ETA: Scanner back up

Father of boys: "These boys would never do such a thing"

Father spoke to both of the boys Monday night (after Marathon). Father asked boys if they were at marathon. Sons said no.
Well, that settles it. This family should sue the police for shooting, running over, and blowing up their son.

I think we should continue the practice of letting young males from hostile muslim nations/countries come over here so we can provide them a higher education. Seems like a great idea
The younger one was a U.S. citizen
Before moving to the United States, he attended School No. 1 in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, a predominantly Muslim republic in Russia's North Caucasus that has become an epicenter of the Islamic insurgency that spilled over from Chechnya.
Samuel Eto'o disagrees.
FC Anzhi players live and train in Moscow, and fly into Makhachkala (over 1,000 miles away) for their own "home" games.

It may take a few tries to get it loaded.

Father saying to son. "Turn self in peacefully". Sons were scheduled to head back to Russia in a few days.
Trying the Eddie Murphy defense..."wasn't me".

Well somebody moved him over here, isn't it possible those people were and are an influence in his life?
Of course.

But this kind of stuff really can't be overtly stopped. Fingers in the dyke. Lock down immigration (or heck, even travel) from a list of countries, they'll start coming in from Canada or India or New Zealand or other friendly nations. Lock down Muslim names, and they'll fake paperwork to come in as "Graham Wellington".

You can't lock it all down. Can't even really lock all that much down, really. Throwing $20 billion at the problem doesn't buy you much more result than throwing $20,000 at it, IMHO.

Dr. Detroit -- am I off base with the bolded?
There has got to be a better way than what we have been doing. This just keeping an eye on perceived threats while they are already here doesn't seem to work.
We weren't keeping an eye on them, because there was no reason to. People scream and moan that they don't want the Patriot Act and are outraged that NSA could be listening to them talk to their wife about erectile dysfunction, but they also want "supposed threats" watched at every waking moment. There are lines drawn, crossed and not crossed. You can't have it both ways.

The 19 year old is not going down without a fight. They just said he ran over his brothers body in the get away..granted he was probably already dead but the kid would not have know that.

Still hard to believe that he elduded the police after being so close.

Whole lotta lurkers here. Let's hear some new opinions. I see killface, I see loser, got nugs, Facebook. glock. 302 user(s) are reading this topic181 members, 91 guests, 29 anonymous users
I'm just lurking, interested moreso in the rapidly changing events. Hoping they catch this guy soon. I imagine there are a lot of other lurkers out there that don't care to get caught up in political debates and potential spinoff threads. It's a great thread to keep tabs on, but posting is kind of pointless. I'm not interested in trying to sway anyone to my POV. Just want the facts. I'll go back to lurking now.
This. On the road and just trying to keep updated. For now ill just agree with whatever Ned says.

I feel like this post should be on page 72 of this thread. They just said that? It's been discussed in here for the past 6 hours or so.

I'm ignorant on this issue all around, but would someone mind explaining to me how, in 2013, law enforcement still hasn't figured out a way to communicate without every Tom, ****, and Dzhokar being able to listen in?

This. I'm shocked that he was withing eyesight last night yet is still at large.

actually, seems to me like it has worked pretty well all things considered.
Yeah I guess this time they didn't kill 3,000 plus people.
pretty sure we've upgraded security significantly since then.
Are you saying screening of immigrants or actual security within our borders? Cause if you haven't been on a subway during rush hour lately you may reconsider that statement.

do we know he was within eyesight?

I thought he kept tripping off motion sensors and things, but not sure when they last had visual confirmation of him.

Father "My son is an angel."

I'll say something in defense of the family. I almost always sympathize with families in these situations. That father likely had nothing to do with this, and may or may not have been a great dad but that doesn't mean he "caused" this. The truth is that, for most immigrants, this is a nightmare scenario. You try to integrate yourself to give your family opportunities that they just won't have in the old country, all while being conscious of your foreign roots and how they make you stand out in this country. From what it sounds like, his younger son was everything most people would want their son to be and was a genuinely likeable person. What has happened to change that, or what was hidden all along, remains unclear. I can only imagine how much his head must be spinning right now given this news.

Yeah, I'm running over everyone but my dog in that case.

right, but he drove off from there I think.

once he abandoned the car and was on foot, I think they had an idea of the area where he was but it was all residential and people were sleeping so they waited until morning to conduct their search.
