BTW, Lester definitely had two tickets in the flashback scene
I'm sure Solverson worked out a lot of it in the interim offscreen. But with Malvo and Lester dead before confessing, there are unanswered questions. My issue, and it's minor, is from a story/character arc perspective, Sovlerson's journey is somewhat unresolved. She didn't get Malvo, didn't get Lester, and didn't get all the answers. Getting just 1 out of 3 would have been enough to put closure on her path. I guess finding the tape answered some things, but, we know how little she actually has evidence of as far as connections we were given as an audience that she was absent for. That's all.I'm fine with it.
Lester and Malvo are dead. The brother is out of prison. I'm sure she pieced together many of those questions off screen.
I actually prefer Gus pulling the trigger on Malvo. Gus had been a little ##### all season, and it was right for him to get to be the hero and protector of is family.
The contrasting journey's of Lester and Gus was pretty awesome to watch. Both came into the season weenies. Lester felt empowered as the season went on, with Gus losing testosterone by the episode until he found himself.
It worked out much better for Molly, I think, that Gus pulled the trigger. He needed that win, and it was no doubt great for their family. (She gets to be Sheriff anyway, after all)
Regarding the last, I posted earlier I think that could be Season Two.So what was the point of Oliver Platts character and story? It ended with the fish storm and that was that.
And how does Malvo drive the red BMW around town without being noticed?
And lastly, why not tell us what happened in Carradines past? They teased it twice without going into details.
I'd lose a lot of respect for this show if he lived. The show seems to care a lot about the "elements" of northern minnesota. It's pretty well understood that falling in ice is going to kill you... and it's pretty much a god awful way to die. What if Lester didn't die? What if he returns as the new Malvo?![]()
It didn't sit right with me when Solverson mentioned something about letting her know when the excavation was finished.
1. I think the point there was that money changes people... but if they're little #####es they'll remain little #####es. Platt was a whiny ##### when he found the money and was equally so when he returned it.So what was the point of Oliver Platts character and story? It ended with the fish storm and that was that.
And how does Malvo drive the red BMW around town without being noticed?
And lastly, why not tell us what happened in Carradines past? They teased it twice without going into details.
I concluded from the fact that there was essentially a nationwide manhunt for Lester (the last scene was in Montana) that Solverson pieced it all together, got her satisfaction with the phone cal, then realized that bad guys aren't worth worrying about after they're gone.I'm good with the finale, but after not binge-watching like I did with True Detective, OITNB, House of Cards, etc., I have some nagging questions.
I think I'm not entirely OK with Solverson's character not wrapping things up. She didn't get to kill Malvo, fine. She did get the evidence against Lester, good. But did she really have enough to solve the whole case? I don't remember how much on her Crazy Wall was put together.
Does she know Malvo and not Lester killed Hess? And why?
Does she know why Malvo and Lester got connected?
Does she know why Mr. Wrench and Mr. Numbers were in Bimidji?
Does she know why Malvo shot up the Fargo Syndicate?
Did she clear Lester's brother?
The show was missing that last wrap-up scene where the detective gets it all put together. I'm OK with that, in part, but also the fact that she didn't kill Malvo and didn't catch Lester kind of leaves things untidy.
I think she has a bunch figured out. Lester killed his wife, called Malvo, the Sheriff walked in and Malvo shot him and wounded Lester. Malvo skipped town, Lester stayed around. Wrench and Numbers beat up Lester. Snowstorm, Numbers got killed, Wrench survived. Malvo shot up Fargo. Something happened in Vegas. Malvo came back. Someone shot Mrs. Lundegaard #2. Malvo shot the FBI guys, got wounded in Lester's house, got shot by Gus. Lester escaped and then drowned.
Still a lot of open threads from her perspective, though, right?
In the restaurant, he told Malvo about a horrific scene he went to back in 79 ..something about bodies and blood..Then he told Gus' daughter when she asked him about being a cop that he was for 18 years, took a bullet in the hip on a traffic stop and retired full pension..then when asked if he ever stood guard he said he did once back in 79 (when Molly was 4 years old), a bad person or thing came after him but not the night he stood guard...two totally unrelated stories, but the story that took place in '79 was definitely part of the same story he told Malvo.1. I think the point there was that money changes people... but if they're little #####es they'll remain little #####es. Platt was a whiny ##### when he found the money and was equally so when he returned it. 2. This is a pretty valid point. Bemidji isn't a terribly big place. It's bigger than a standard Minnesota town, though. That said, Malvo's cabin seemed to be on one of the county roads outside of town.So what was the point of Oliver Platts character and story? It ended with the fish storm and that was that.
And how does Malvo drive the red BMW around town without being noticed?
And lastly, why not tell us what happened in Carradines past? They teased it twice without going into details.
3. They did essentially. He was on duty, encountered a really bad guy, bad guy came after him and shot him in the hip.
I did not infer she put together everything. Sure, she knows Lester murdered his wife, that was in the tape. But does she know if Lester or Malvo killed Hess? She may think Lester did, and that's why it was a big search. Or maybe she thinks Lester is involved with killing the FBI agents, making it a federal case. We don't have enough information to know what she concluded, other than she was on the wrong track earlier (thinking Lester and Malvo worked together as a team or something).I concluded from the fact that there was essentially a nationwide manhunt for Lester (the last scene was in Montana) that Solverson pieced it all together, got her satisfaction with the phone cal, then realized that bad guys aren't worth worrying about after they're gone.I'm good with the finale, but after not binge-watching like I did with True Detective, OITNB, House of Cards, etc., I have some nagging questions.

On point #2, Malvo was sitting in the car in town when he called the FBI...they made it look/seem like he was in front of the police station, but its hard to really tell...but you can definitely see that he is in town.

I'm not really complaining about it, other than it's disappointing that she didn't get the whole picture, or kill Malvo, or catch Lester. Solverson, as awesome a character as she was at the beginning, kind of disappeared from the action of the plot after the time jump. Everything she did was carried forward by other characters, pushing her to the background.
I thought she was telling Lester that he was the second glove. She didn't care if Malvo killed him, as long as they got Malvo.2 things...
1- im assuming he let the car dealer go free ,his car was not in Lesters driveway .
2 - I liked the story about the gloves and the train...im also guessing it meant ''do the right thing'' Lester

Exactly, we, as an audience, never got the cathartic payoff of seeing her piece the whole thing together. Or, failing that, actually get one of the bad guys herself. I just missed having that moment in the story's structure.she thought they were both complicit in the murders ...she just didnt know to what length

not sure i follow you...at which point was he in town that he could have left? Most of what y'all are mentioning didn't really bug me. What does bug me is that Lester isn't getting his ### in gear to leave as soon as he gets back to town.
What did Gus mean when he told Malvo he had figured it out? Figured what out? Everyone knew at that point Malvo was the killer - anyone else left wanting that answered?I'm fine with it.

Yeah. We were lost on her story too. I'm usually always lost on these things, but when my GF said she was perplexed as well, I knew it was odd.I was expecting her story to be a morality or a warning story, but I didn't get it from that. I wasn't sure what the purpose of the story was.2 things...

Other than that, I thought it was a great ending.
I thought it was a kind of clumsy way to say they were throwing Lester back out as bait. So Malvo was the first glove. Not sure, though.Yeah. We were lost on her story too. I missed the whole passport thing, how do you know Malvo had Lester's passport? I do not recall even seeing Lester's passport.
I realize he was more of a known/wanted man at the end but I'd think after seemingly a lifetime of crime and after he just lost a naked man from his trunk he would be more selective about going to a hospital.Allison Tolman tweeted this a little while ago: The line we cut is "it's not a story about a man who loses a glove.
