Farve to Report this Weekend (1 Viewer)

Count me in the crowd that thinks they'll pull a Byron Leftwich (Jax) on him and release him as late as possible.

Minnesota would scoop him up in a heartbeat even then and be starting by Week 5.

seems to me that favre holds the cards.

favre- "i want to play again"

packers- "sorry, rodgers is our qb now"

favre- "ok, then please release me"

packers- "no"

favre- "ok, then i'll show up and you can pay me $12 million to be the backup"

packers- "More time, we'll all be fired!"

favre- "time's up."
And the fired line has been slightly disputed by Thompson too.Without just coming out and insinuating that Favre was lying as Favre did about Thompson.
Sho Nuff, it's you against the world man, not even you and your great debating skills can save Ted Thompsons job with the Packers. The guy is toast. :lmao:

Packers- Brett you are now the 3rd string qb who will be inactive every gameFavre- I'm coming home Deanna if you want to pay me $12 million to be inactive every game...
like i said, favre holds the cards here. the packers are not going to pay $12 million for the privilege of having that huge distraction all season.
Favre's ego is too big to accept a backup role. He will stay retired before going back to the Packers as a backup. If he would be happy being a backup then he would have told the Packers hey I know you have moved on and Rodgers is the starter but I want to come back and be part of the team.

The Packers are extremely desperate. If they sent Murphy down to plead with Favre to not come after TT begged him to stay home this weekend, Favre can only be so far away from getting the release he wants. They really must want to avoid having him at camp.
That's what it sounds like to me.At some point, the Pack is going to figure out that they can't have their cake and eat it too, they are going to have to release him at some point. Unless they trade him, but I think Favre knows they don't want him there on opening day. I think if he sticks to his guns, they will eventually cut him, or trade him where he wants to go. No way do they want to have him at camp all August, and guarantee his salary by having him on the opening day roster.
The Packers will not release Favre. They will accept him back on the team, but he will be the backup. It will be up to Favre to decide whether he can accept these conditions. I don't know why the Packers are getting killed PR wise over this. It is obvious that all the other teams believe that Favre does not have much to offer their teams either.

Murphy heads south, asking Favre to stay home

The Green Bay Packers on Tuesday night sent team president and CEO Mark Murphy on a private plane to visit Brett Favre in Mississippi in an attempt to persuade the quarterback to stay home rather than report to training camp this week.

A source told the Press-Gazette that Murphy will meet Wednesday morning with Favre and his agent, Bus Cook, at Cook’s law office in Hattiesburg, Miss.

“They’re asking him not to come up there,” the source said. “They don’t want him up there.”

Favre faxed the NFL on Tuesday requesting reinstatement, and an NFL spokesman said Commissioner Roger Goodell won’t act on the request until Wednesday. Goodell apparently wanted to give the sides another day to come to some sort of agreement before reinstating Favre.

...

If Favre eventually takes the Packers’ practice field, McCarthy will determine his role in workouts. He and Thompson have made clear Rodgers is their starter and will get the majority of snaps at practice, so iRodgers’ workload won’t lessen. Favre perhaps could push rookies Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn to Nos. 3 and 4 on the depth chart, but the Packers also could keep Favre from getting many, if any, snaps.

Because Favre missed the start of camp, McCarthy might limit him to individual and small-group drills for a day or two. But if Favre isn’t traded or released quickly, McCarthy will have to decide how many snaps to give him in each drill behind Rodgers.

It's evident that this source is from the Favre camp, (again) by the use of the words "come up there". So of course it's going to have a spin towards Favre's favor. And once again, every conversation by Favre with the Packers is taken straight to the media by Favre with his spin on it. Can't wait for his press-conference on Wednesday night/Thursday how he tells us that Murphy offered him the Packer's presidency. Not sure how this shows they are desperate. To me it shows that they are willing to have an open dialogue and come up with a reasonable solution to satisfy both parties. The Packers have been seeking a trade for Favre and Favre has refused to speak to any interested parties. Favre will not accept anything other than his outright release, which would just be stupid on the Packer's part.

You have been denying quite a bit...you should work on that.

You think this was all Favre predicting this on Letterman? Really?

I don't think Favre has been an attention whore way back in April.

I still don't think he is.

Yes...the hole you dug yourself in when you took everything said about Favre as fact even though several of those things were, in fact, rumors.
:towelwave:
See...denial on your part.Maybe you can start by providing a link to backup your claim that the Packers are the most inexperienced team in the league for us...
All the rumors became fact. I tried to warn you you were backing the wrong horse, and I am paid back with venom, in spite of the fact that you now, hypocritically, do in fact find the same faults in Favre that we've all been talking about for months, if not years.
Packers await Dallas Cowboys-Giants winner

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Talent wasn't a concern for the Green Bay Packers heading into the postseason.

The lack of experience was.

The Packers had the talent in 2007 to win 13 games and the NFC North. That talent delivered a first-round bye and a home playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks.

But that talent was inexperienced. The Packers have the youngest roster in the NFL. Twenty-six players on the playoff roster have spent two seasons in the NFL or less and were making their postseason debuts.

IGNORANCE PAYS OFF FOR YOUNG PACKERS

By JAY GREENBERG

January 14, 2008

"GREEN BAY, Wis. - Perhaps the reason why a team with 10 key first-year players was able to overcome a fast two-touchdown deficit was that only the Packers' 17-year veteran realized how much trouble they were in. "

"And for all the Packers' inexperience, they had the most experienced guy on the field at the most critical position. Favre was 18-for-23 with three touchdown passes and no interceptions."
More Everybody's an offseason older now than they were then.

How many vets have Green Bay picked up since then? How many have they lost?

Any big named vets that saved their seasons last year retire, unretire and then ask for his / her release? Got a Vet QB on the roster who isn't asking for his release?

Have you apologized to Chris Mortenson yet?
Apologized to Mortenson for what? Correctly claiming that he was citing an unnamed source? And no...not all of the rumors came true.

As for your links...thank you for showing 2 links saying they "WERE" inexperienced. Neither saying they ARE the MOST inexperienced team in the league.

You have failed once again.

As if any of this media attention or pressure or watchful eyes on every Rodgers pass will change no matter what happens.

If Favre stayed retired...each Rodgers pass would be analyzed and some might call for Brett at the first sign of trouble.

If Favre is the backup...each Rodgers pass would be analyzed and some might call for Brett at the first sign of trouble.

If Favre is traded or released...each Rodgers pass would be analyzed and some might call for Brett at the first sign of trouble.

Its already a circus...nothing at this point is going to change that.
Murphy Flies to Mississippi to ask Favre to stay home
MURPHY HEADING TO MISSISSIPPI TO TALK FAVRE OUT OF SHOWING UP

Posted by Mike Florio on July 29, 2008, 11:19 p.m. EDT

New Packers president Mark Murphy, who might want to renegotiate his compensation package given the events of the past few weeks, is putting in some overtime in the Brett Favre fiasco.

Specifically, Murphy is flying to Mississippi in a last-ditch attempt to persuade Favre not to report to Packers training camp, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Murphy will meet with Favre and agent Bus Cook on Wednesday morning.

“They’re asking him not to come up there,” a source tells the Press-Gazette. “They don’t want him up there.”

But what can they offer him to keep him away? Nothing, other than his unconditional release. And our guess is that Favre and Cook will push Murphy hard for an outright release — especially since Murphy’s personal visit to Mississippi is proof positive that the Packers are on the ropes on this one.
Now why would he do that when we all know that Favre being in Green Bay would not cause any extra scrutiny?
I will not comment on "sources" claiming he is going there to ask him not to report. That seems inconsistent with what McCarthy has been saying at this point.Murphy is going there to discuss things for sure (as Ted is sticking around with other contract issues and camp to pay attention to.

Alot of things will play out over the next few days.

But the circus is already there...and will already be there no matter what happens with Favre...this little article of yours does nothing to prove otherwise.

Me against the world?Tell that to the executive committee who controls his job and has supported him this entire time.

Tell that to the stockholders who vote for the executive committee who mostly supported Thompson at the meeting last week.

Seems your opinion is the one that is in the minority here.

This is a joke right? Thompson's job is incredibly safe with the Packers. The guy just signed an extension last year. 95% of what he has done has worked incredibly well. He took over an old 4-12 team 3 years ago and turned them into the youngest team in the league that went 13-3 and to the NFC Championship game. They were a Favre interception away from going to the Super Bowl. He brought in the players, he hired the coach, etc. What people outside of the state don't realize is that 75% of the fans don't want Favre. They are done with it. It is a vocal minority who are out with the Bring Brett back signs. That and the ridiculous ESPN programming that just keeps beating this into the ground. Harlan, Murphy, and McCarthy are all with Ted. To think Thompson is going to lose his job over this, it pretty much admitting you have been sucked into the ESPN hype machine and have no capacity to think for yourself. Rodgers is a good player, is he Favre good, who knows. I would like to point out that Favre was not very good his first 2-3 years. Fans were calling for him to be bench as he strung together consecutive 20 int's seasons. You have to give these guys time. In addition to Rodgers, Thompson did what he does and drafted Brohm at a great value spot to possibly take over in a few years if Rodgers isn't the guy. Turn off the TV and start to use rational and logical thought.

Rational and logical thought like not wanting back the guy who lead your team to a 13-3 record last year, has the most passing yards in NFL history, the most wins in NFL history, the most attempts, completions, and TD's in NFL history. All the Packers want to do is have Favre retire a Packer so they can make buttloads more money off selling his jersey's, etc. Favre has done more for the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin than any other player in the history of the franchise. Because TT has been playing fast and loose with the facts the whole time. Saying one thing and doing another. No, I didn't say backup...I said he would have no place on the team and could not compete for the starting job. Give me a break. They were never welcoming him and have tried to force him to stay retired.

Deana and his agent are right: They are playing him.

BTW, what do you think the odds are the Rodgers EVER puts up numbers like Favre did last year. I will take it to Vegas.

Interesting. Long time fan with friends and family in the area and I've heard there is slightly more support for than against. I think this is just like anything else it all depends on who you talk to. I just have not heard there is a majority one way or the other.

FINE, I got that wrong. Hang me why don't you.Eisen is still crazy - Minny will not acquire Favre in a trade regardless of how interesting an argument it provokes.

(I am now counting down the hours until I am proven wrong by Green Bay LOL)

From a quick poll of my family...only my brother and I are even open to having him back. And were are the younger ones but did also live through the late 70s and the 80s while they sucked. My mother who is one of Favre's biggest fans and was also at the Ice Bowl wishes he would just go away.

How much money do you think Favre brought in to Green Bay over the years...? Hundreds of Millions of dollars I suspect.

As for 75% of the Packer fans wanting to move on, I don't believe it. I know many, many longtime Packer fans who can't believe this situation, and are pissed off with what is going on. IMO the large majority of the 75% you speak off probably weren't around to see the years before Favre brought the Packers to the top.

I can see fans wanting this situation to end, but I just don't see how anyone could not want Favre to play for their team....and if he isn't good enough to play for the Packers then what are they worried about in giving him his release...?
From a quick poll of my family...only my brother and I are even open to having him back. And were are the younger ones but did also live through the late 70s and the 80s while they sucked.

My mother who is one of Favre's biggest fans and was also at the Ice Bowl wishes he would just go away.
That's brilliant. My mom said the exact same thing last night when I spoke to her on the phone. (She probably sat next to your mother at the Ice Bowl ;) )

seems to me that favre holds the cards.

favre- "i want to play again"

packers- "sorry, rodgers is our qb now"

favre- "ok, then please release me"

packers- "no"

favre- "ok, then i'll show up and you can pay me $12 million to be the backup"

packers- "More time, we'll all be fired!"

favre- "time's up."
And the fired line has been slightly disputed by Thompson too.Without just coming out and insinuating that Favre was lying as Favre did about Thompson.
TT also said that it was Favre who suggested he stay away initially...now the NFL network is reporting the MM flew doMwn to Mississippi today to ask Favre to not show up. ;) (according to GB Press Gazette) So why is McCarthy saying that they will welcome him back when they are trying to get him stay away? Sorry about the repeat on info...I was responding to something on page 11. Didn't see all the threads about this on page 12 before I posted.

I think some of you are taking alot of what Favre has said as Gospel. While I think Thompson has been coy...I think the truth is still in between what he says and what Favre says.

The Packers are extremely desperate. If they sent Murphy down to plead with Favre to not come after TT begged him to stay home this weekend, Favre can only be so far away from getting the release he wants. They really must want to avoid having him at camp.
Uhm. The Packers have tried to get Favre to stay retired since this started. Now, ever since he's threatened to come to camp, they haven't welcomed him there. At all. They have asked him for more time. If that isn't desperation, and a sure sign that they don't really want him to be there, then I don't know what they are waiting for. If it's no big deal then why fly Murphy to Mississippi? Favre's gotta come up to Green Bay anyway, right?

That was pretty bad.The whining about Moss is what gets me...especially that they did not sign him this year.

Did anyone, after last season and what the GB WRs did, actually think GB would even try going after him? Really?
he was talking about before he signed with the Patriots last year ;)
He also mentioned this year. Hence my "especially that they did not sign him this year" line.

How much more experienced have they become since then? One game more experienced. They are a few months older, and without their Vet QB. Add this to the pile of points you failed to defend at all.

Turn off the TV and start to use rational and logical thought.

You're wrong man. I live in the state, and I am a huge football fan and Packer fan. I am sitting on a football site right now discussing this. The fact is, is people are fed up. Most everyone moved on when he retired and they are sick of the diva, will he or won't he attitude. His persona has changed from the tough "go to work eveyday with the lunch pail" guy to a "look at me, make me feel good, I am bigger than the team" attitude. Fans aren't focused on the past and the what ifs. People are now worried this is going to impact the current season and future seasons to come. The future is now in alot of people's mind and they don't really justify jeopardizing the next 5 seasons for one more "maybe" season with Favre. The last image alot of people have of Favre is him looking incredibly miserable vs. the Giants and playing terrible. Yes, it was cold, but he was throughly outplayed by Manning.

The first source was Brett Favre himself, as it's been for most of the rumors you've failed to deny and deflect. Keeping your head in the sand doesn't bother me any, it's just not the most defensible position to take.

Yeah, you can say that. Meanwhile, you are refusing to look at facts because it would mean taking a good hard look at how your franchise is handling this, and no sane person could take the position that you have. Think logically. What doesn't make sense about what Favre's camp has leaked? Murphy is coming to them. Favre is being stalled out of camp. The proof lies with Favre, as it did before when he claimed TT was scared for his job the first time he said he was coming to camp. Now he's called their bluff, and they are pulling out all the stops. Think.

Sho Nuff, it's you against the world man, not even you and your great debating skills can save Ted Thompsons job with the Packers. The guy is toast. :excited:
Ignorance knows no bounds. Do teams often can the reigning Executive of the Year?

You rarely present facts.Just posting what Favre has said about something is not "facts".I have looked at the facts...I have done my best to stick with the facts rather than just rumor and speculation. For some reason, that bothers you so much.No sane person? So I guess what looks to be a majority of the Packers fans, plus their executive committee are sane? Because they echo my thoughts on how the franchise is handling this. The only thing stating that Favre is being stalled out of camp is Favre...for some reason, you now take every word of his as gospel. When he claimed TT was scared for his job...that is not a fact either...again, that is Favre's words. TT seemed to think that conversation went differently and that he feared for his job if he released Favre. As for all this called their bluff line...IMO...they are not bluffing. They know they have a little bit of a better hand than Favre and are willing to play it to the end.

What does Favre gain by being untruthful about the situation? If Favre was welcome with open arms he would be in Green Bay already. The Packers don't want Favre to play in Green Bay or anywhere else. I have been saying for 3 years that I thought Favre should retire. But if he wants to play.....he should play.....the thing that I don't get most of all is.....Favre will give the Pack the best chance to win....and it's not close

How much more experienced have they become since then? One game more experienced. They are a few months older, and without their Vet QB. Add this to the pile of points you failed to defend at all.
The point, that I have defended and you have failed to prove...is that your little articles don't claim they were the least experienced team in the league. Thanks for playing.
They are the most inexperienced team in the league.

Think.
This is the same TT who recanted on which position Favre would be offered when they welcomed him back with open arms to camp, yes? Backup to unsure to backup?

I, as a True Packer fan, will back whomever the future GB QB is going to be. I just can't bring myself to believe that Favre does not give the best chance at a super bowl. I personally think Rodgers is more of whiner than Favre. Has everyone forgotten the "Get on Board" comments? He is not proven and Favre has come out and has asked to compete for the starting job although he does not believe he should have too. The only one that gets the shaft in this whole deal will be Rodgers anyway. I also brought myself to the reality that the legend was over and a new era was starting, but if the guys wants to come back let him! He has earned it and if he can compete and win the nod I say start him.

The Packers are extremely desperate. If they sent Murphy down to plead with Favre to not come after TT begged him to stay home this weekend, Favre can only be so far away from getting the release he wants. They really must want to avoid having him at camp.
You are again taking only what Favre has said about them asking him not to be there. Again...the other side to that is that Thompson states that it was Favre's idea to hold off.And right now, its still in Goodell's hand until he approves the reinstatement.

We don't know for sure why Murphy went there. That is kind of the point.

But you speculate on one source...because it fits with your beliefs...pretty much what you have been doing this entire time with this situation.

What does he have to gain? Any bit of public opinion on it?Why else is Favre going to the media airing out conversations he had with Thompson? Why else is he out there basically calling Thompson a liar? He obviously has something to gain from taking things to the media.

I have not said Favre is lying...I have said that he is saying one thing...Thompson is saying another. None of us know exactly what the truth is.

But its obvious that people like Scotty who want to believe the worst about the Packers...will believe whatever looks worst for the Packers...no matter who else denies it.

He would not be in GB just yet...Goodell has not approved his reinstatement...

And I agree he gives them the best chance to win this year...but that is not the only point that must be considered by Thompson and the organization.

Favre and Thompson don't like each other. Period. It's pretty clear Favre does not want to play for Green Bay. Period. If you read this situation any other way, you're missing the venom he's spewing at the front office.Yes, he should play if he wants to. The problem is he isn't donig this just because he wants to play. He's doing it because he wants to play, but just not for Green Bay.

And he's going about it in a such way that spares his reputation as he attempts to put the blame squarely on Green Bay.

Once again, don't let the good ol' boy pull one over on you.
