Fat and Rich or Poor and in Control? (1 Viewer)

You have the choice to be very wealthy (we can call it $50 million in the bank), but you're obese and always will be. Nothing will change that, diet/surgery/etc... I'm talking riding around in a scooter, those flat fat people shoes, we can call it 6' 545 pounds. Tasks like walking up the stairs are nearly impossible. You're fat, you always will be, but you have all the money you'll ever need.

On the other side, you can be poor, not like welfare, but your max earnings will never exceed $35k a year, that is your ceiling until death, but everything else is in your power.

Which would you take?

eh...if i know i'm always making $35k, i can live on that and just travel around knowing i'll never make more or less. Could work with that...

Definitely the 2nd option.

545 pounds is way too big to enjoy the money and you wouldn't live long at that weight.

545 is a tad too high to make this worth contemplating.
Yeah, I don't think that there is any way that you can really ever enjoy anything, regardless of what you can buy.
I disagree with this... You can design a house built for a fat person on a scooter, hire help, and float around in a pool all day with extremely high end hookers. Sure there are more fulfilling things in life, but this wouldn't be terrible.

You would barely be able to breathe and none of your bodily functions would work properly.

So what is the cutoff for fat? 400 pounds?
That sounds better. Hard to say because I've never weighed anywhere near 545 but I have to imagine physical discomforts would take away the joy of the money.

And poor is relative. What Americans today consider "poor" is a life of unimaginable luxury to people in other parts of the world. I make less than $35K now and I live pretty comfortably. If I was paycheck to paycheck, then I'd start to lean toward rich fat guy.

if i follow dave ramsey's advice i will be a millionaire on a $35K per year salary by the time I retire. and I won't be fat. i'll take #2

When I saw the title I immediately though I'd for sure go with one, but under these parameters, and since I just spent my day with people who would feel like millionaires if they made 35k/year, it's two easily.

$35k and move to either Colombia, Southeast Asia, or Eastern Europe. $3k/mo goes a long way over there. And the women are not fat entitled attention whores like we got here.

I assumed the poor would be relative. So if you moved to a place where 35k was wealthy, you would make the local equivalent (i.e. still be poor there).

I'd go somewhere with a low cost of living, buy a modest house with a little land for 100k, and live a very pleasant life making 35k a year, especially if I had *everything* else going for me.

With everything else going for me, I'd find a place with enough land that I could gradually build myself a shop, and gradually accumulate tools so that I could fix my own home, make my own furniture. I'd learn to cook like a pro and eat like a king, growing a lot of my own vegetables and raising/butchering my own meat. I'd buy a cheap bike and get really fast. Pushups and throwing some logs around could get me really strong. With everything else but money going for me, I think I could have a really fantastic life.

I think if I weighed 550 pounds I'd be miserable no matter how much money I had. It would be better than poor and fat though.
