can we all just take a minute and offer up some love for faust i am not even sure that he is a human or an alien ai system who knows instantly when information has entered the matrix about a player but i do know that i appreciate like all get out the updates he puts here in the shark pool and you can take that to the bank bromigos

last night, i asked AI who the 49ers took in the draft after the pick was in but not yet announced on NFLN/ESPN. received a list of 10 players they "drafted" going into detail of each round selection and a blurb about each player. ooof...

Make Mine Faust for any update!!!! Appreciate you doing what you do to help the community.

Meh

Makes the forum largely unreadable

Not shtick.
Ignore is not working for you?
To be fair to @Dan Lambskin, I think he may be referring to cluttering the front page with just link responses and not discussion. He is wrong however about one thing. Ignoring someone doesn't prevent the thread from showiing, only their posts. I showed my dislike for just posting links and no comments a long time ago and was blasted for it, so I won't go there again. I know Faust has his fans and I can respect that. For me personally, If I want to see the latest news on a player I typically get that from Rotoballer or Youtbue, but that's just me.

If you have someone on ignore and they are the op of a thread you will not see the thread

I didn't iknow that, because if I have someone on ignore I always see the thread, but it just doesn't show the post of the one I've ignored.

Wow. A thread that hasn’t been posted in since 2017 is really what you are citing here?

Who hurt you so badly that it turned you into such a negative human being?

Maybe @Joe Bryant or @FBG Moderator can reach out to you to help you to figure out how to set me up on the ignore function where you won’t see my posts but can still see the player threads that I have started.

Sorry for having a minority opinion guess I’ll slink back to the FFA. Enjoy your celebration everyone. Hopefully we’ll get loads of irrelevant updates on 3rd string QBs for many more years to come

My guess is the forum software cant support that but I’ll try again

You also seem to be missing my point. That was a thread that was bumped to the front page what 10 times? Now do that for every Frisman Jackson or Greg Camarillo every time there’s a Twitter post or CBS article or whatever about them and it makes the forum cluttered…at least in my opinion

Respectful disagreement is one thing but IMHO you cross over from that into a hostile negative attack here. @JohnnyU isn’t always a fan of the links and information that I am adding but he has never once came at me in the same manner that you have.

Two things.

@Faust does a ton and he's super appreciated. He knows I/we feel that way he's a big help.

Second, there can be a reasonable discussion about what gets posted. As I said in the other thread, lIke with all the forum, it's a balance of signal to noise and trying to keep a high bar for what's relevant. The challenge is different people have different levels of what they want.

Some want everything. Some want just the big things. We can talk on that.

I forget who it was but a while back we had a Sunday where tons of posts were made that weren't high enough importance to be a thread. The poster absolutely was trying to help but we talked and adjusted the bar for what should make a news post. And it worked great. I always want to encourage people doing their best to post good stuff. I love the enthusiasm.

So like with anything, I think we can talk through it.

It feels to me the level of story importance we have now is about at the right level.

But that's something we can talk about. Some might want a higher "bar" for importance and fewer stories. Some might want a lower bar and more stories.

I personally err on the side of more knowing people can skip over. But there's also a line too. We don't want so many that the important stories get lost.

FWIW, this is the exact conversation we have every night on the Daily Email Update. There are hundreds of stories each day. Part of our job is narrowing it down to the most important. And hitting the sweet spot between highlighting the big stories, yet still being comprehensive.

Thanks for posting 50 twitter links about Omarion Hampton getting drafted by the bolts. Very helpful
Exaggerate much? There was 3-4 Twitter links added and each one had some helpful context and opinions from respected NFL writers and accounts on a player that seems to have a range of opinions about Hampton.
Maybe im just old school and like forums to generate discussion and not just regurgitate someone else’s opinion.

For instance, @Faust updates all the titles for the threads he started for college players once they're drafted. That's a big help and saves me or a moderator the time to do it. 🙏
I like that part as well. Having said that, is there a way to add the functionality to mark a thread as read without opening it first? I know outlook has that ability. You just right click and can mark all emails in your inbox as read. It would be cool if you could do that in a forum. At least the current page. I suppose that is an obsession with me.

@JohnnyU has a good viewpoint that he wants to see more discussion and opinions about players but I have never felt confident that I am an expert in evaluating rookies, so I tend to defer to the information that I find online from those who spend considerably more of their time dedicated to this, and it takes me a lot of time to dig up the information that I am finding (which doesn’t leave me a lot of extra time to add my thoughts.)

Over the years I’ve tried to add a little more of my own opinions from time to time.

As far as stimulating discussion, I’d like to think that the links and information that I am adding does exactly that - they generate a response and bring other posters in who share their thoughts and opinions especially when they don’t always agree with something they read within the article that has been posted. I learn a lot from the collective wisdom that gets posted here.

There is a scene in the movie ‘The Social Network’ where Mark Zuckerberg is talking about an art history class that he has where Mark posts a picture on the artwork on a discussion forum and from time to time he adds something else - stirring the pot and keeping the conversation going. I’ve always felt that I do the same thing here.

If Faust created a thread for you, it would read like this:

FBG SWC, bromigo

I've always seen this forum (or any forum) like a game of scrabble. Lots of ways to add words (or posts).

The best words and posts, at least from a making the game fun angle, are long words in open spaces as it gives the other players plenty of room to spring board from.

The worst are adding a couple of letters to a word. It might score points but doesn't help the game much.

For the forum, the equivalent of a long word in open space is a good thoughtful post that invites discussion. It's not "bait" or "engagement farming", it's encouraging good discussion.

And on the other hand, a snarky or mean post has the opposite effect - they discourage discussion.

It's one of the reasons I'm always harping on keeping discussion civil. It's not just the kind thing to do - it's better for discussion.

While I love a good discussion, one thing that turns me off are posts that are too long. If I wanted to read a book I'd go buy one from Barnes n' Noble. I think there is a good balance of covering what you want to say without enundating me with so much information I don't want to read it.

I'm usually the one with with minority opinions, so I feel ya there. But I can't imagine having a problem with Faust. Even that Kaaya thread you referenced. The dude was a prospect at the time. Some prospects become Patrick Mahomes. Some do nothing. Kaaya did nothing. That's not Faust's fault, and yeah it was 23 posts, but it was within a span of a year or so, not like he was posting updates for nine years about a guy still jumping around practice squads.

Generally I'm not a fan of all the links and come here more for discussion. When I see a topic I'm interested has been bumped to the top, I'm hoping it's someone posting something on them and not a blurb I can see anywhere else.

But hard to hate too much on a fellow Calgarian.

I'm actually the opposite. I'm usually hoping the bump is news (whether from Faust or whomever), since I don't really read sports news anywhere else. Discussion is definitely helpful, but big news is more game-changing.

Just check this once a day and you're set there.

bullies suck take that to the bank lambmigo
Got it so voicing a differing opinion and providing examples makes me a bully? maybe my delivery was less than stellar but I forgot what an echo chamber this place can be
Yeah I think it's more the delivery. I like the sarcasm honestly, but some comments probably come off as overly hateful.

If I take your comments as voicing that you don't like his style, and busting his chops about some of the redundant or excessive links, but accepting his ways with an eyeroll, it's actually funny. I've poked fun at Faust before for posting a link to an article that was already posted like days earlier by someone else, things like that.

But if I take your comments as rejecting him outright, like his links are not at all welcome, and basically telling him he needs to stop (no you didn't literally tell him to stop posting links, but it could be read that way), it seems pretty harsh.

Oh yeah, for sure. I am not hoping to click on my player's thread to see news that the coach said "he's a really nice guy and a good player." But when it is big [good] news, that's always better to see than discussion of what we think of the situation.

Big news is not common however

A post doesn't need to be long to be the equal of a long word in Scrabble.

It just needs to encourage discussion.
