Got to be cashews.

Taste great and carry just a little bit of toxicity. I like a little danger with my nuts.

Casting my vote for the humble peanut (which is really more of a bean, but whatever).

I'll take a properly roasted peanut over any of your fru-fru nuts.

Almonds would be my 2nd choice.

Cashews are a delicious, but sometimes the sweetness and creaminess gets to be a little much.

Pistachios are incredibly overrated.

reminds me of a scene where Matt Damon asks this Harvard puke if he likes nuts- the Harvard puke says yes, and Damon smushes his nuts against the glass and says- "how do you like 'dees nuts"

Depends. If eating by themselves, then either cashews or almonds. For baking cookies, probably walnuts. For baking pies, def pecan. For making a type of butter, peanut.

Also, pecan pie would be waaaaay better if it had more of the goopy, sweet brown stuff and less actual pecans in it.

I was suprised and happy to see hickory nut listed. Most have probably never had one. I don't think they are commercially sold as they are a giant challenge in harvesting and shelling and the trees only bear well every 4-5 years. In college I worked in the pro shop and we had a bunch of hickory trees. I filled up a bunch of old potato sacks full and we would pick them all winter long.

They taste like a maple flavored, slightly chewy pecan. You need to give them a try. Unbelievable.

Wow - the link from ebay has them shelled for $18lb - seems like a hell of a deal. I may go for a couple pounds - I really miss them.

Voted cashews.

Id probably rather eat pistachios sometimes...but the pain in shelling them knocks them way down.

NUT RANKINGS:

1. Almonds (most versatile nut when it comes to flavoring)

2. Hazelnut (great when roasted or as hazelnut butter spread)

3. Cashew (has a reputation for being a "cheap" nut, but has a solid flavor to it)

4. Pistachio (a bit of an acquired taste, but eventually you'll get addicted)

5. Pecan (the walnut's aristocratic cousin)

6. Macadamia (it's got an OK flavor but it's kind of overrated for the price)

7. Peanut (it's better as a complimentary flavor than as a standalone nut)

No other nuts are worth mentioning.

Not if they're fresh.
