listening to Dan Patrick he cited a report from Mort (i think?) stating that it's official.

just came over the wire.

great guy. great career. thanks for the memories.

 
Long live the legacy! The definition of an all-timer. Cant wait to see those statues erected in Cheeseland.

 
Very surprised he's ok with that INT to Webster being the last pass of his career.

Happy trails to one of the true legends.

According the reports he made his decision a "few" days ago. I just think each year he had to put more and more work into it during the off season and it just got to be too much. I believe he still loves the 3 hours on Sundays but just grew tired of everything else. Thank you Brett....you will be missed dearly.

I hear ya. He's still playing at a very high level, and the team is definitely in a championship window. Im surprised.There is almost no way to overstate what Favre has done. He's on the Mt. Rushmore of QBs, no doubt about it. Can't even imagine the feeling in the frozen tundra right now.
 
Bon voyage. I actually think this helps Grants value. This will reduce the stat padding for Favre with cheap touchdowns on first and goal from the one play actions that the Packers have been notorious for throughout Favre's career.

That being said, he was surely a gamer.

:unsure: Strange timing to say the least given the overall condition of that team. I would expect this means that his body just can't take the wear and tear anymore.
 
Man, did I ever grow to respect this guy over the years.

As a Bears Fan he was Public Enemy #1 for well over a decade, but over the last couple of years, I just couldn't help but root for the guy as long as it wasn't against the Bears.

I'm kind of suprised to see this decision. Reason one being the same thing Bloom said. I'm shocked that he would want that to be his last pass. Reason two being that he looked like he had a couple of years left in him and the pieces really seem to be in place for this team to make a championship run.

He'll be missed

 
As a Packer fan, I felt for the last year that I would have no problem with Favre retiring, but now that it's happening, I'm numb. I never thought he would retire this year after a great regular season, and ending the year in the playoffs with the intercetion. I don't really know what to say. This news is dominating all local news coverage.

:hophead: Those big lanes that Favre opens up just got a lot smaller.There will be plenty of time to discuss fantasy impact later - but It ain't good. While Rodgers was impressive and running the O as well as or better than Favre in the Dallas game, man does he seem brittle. He promptly hurt himself in practice the next week!Whmever the Packers backup is (Nall? Martin? Dalton Bell?!?!) will see some action this year.

Sad day in Packerland, but like I said, I think that TT wants to fully start the youth movement. Rodgers has 3 years of the system under his belt. He won't be Favre by a long shot but it will be interesting to watch a new chapter in Packer football.

Now the Packers are close to $40 million under the cap. If Rodgers plays decently, they could really be on their way with that type of money and the youth and talent on this team.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has decided to retire, ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting.

Mortensen reported that according to Favre's agent, Bus Cook, Favre has informed Packers coach Mike McCarthy of his decision.

Foxsports.com first reported Favre's decision.

 
Yeah, I don't get it. I like Rodgers, don't get me wrong. But this team is so close. Favre, say it aint so!

 
LOS ANGELES (TICKER) —Brett Favre’s legendary NFL career is apparently over.

According to a report on FOXSports.com, the record-setting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers has decided to retire after 17 seasons. Favre reportedly informed the Packers of his decision within the last few days, and it’s unclear when Favre and the team will make his decision known.

Favre, 38, has flirted with retirement during the past two offseasons. Many expected him to call it quits after a disappointing 2006 season, but Favre saw encouraging signs in the Packers’ rebuilding and said he wanted to return.

His decision was justified by an outstanding season. Favre led a young Packers team to a 13-3 record, throwing for 4,155 yards and 28 touchdowns. His quarterback rating of 95.7 was his best in 11 seasons.

During the course of the season Favre has broken three NFL records, becoming the all-time leading in passing yards (61,655 yards), touchdown passes (442), and career wins (160).

Favre has started 253 consecutive regular-season games for the Packers, a streak that dates to September 27, 1992.

The only three-time MVP in NFL history, Favre is the all-time leader with 5,377 career completions. He has made eight Pro Bowl appearances and is set to make his ninth on February 10.
