FBCarGuys - Which "hot hatch" would you buy? (1 Viewer)

Say you were going through a mid-life crisis, but were too poor to buy a typical mid-life crisis car. Perhaps you had your head turned by a smart little hatchback that was quick and fun to drive.

Taking into account the last four years, and a $40k budget, how would you answer the following questions?

Which hot hatches would be in your top 10 to test drive?

Which hot hatch would likely be your final choice?

I don't like the term hot hatch, but it helps classify the type of car my friend is looking for.

WRX STI.

Unless you care about "brand" impressions, then used 335i or G37s (i realize those aren't hatches, but...).

But you aren't going to have more fun than a STI imo.

thanks! Any thoughts on the Focus ST?

and for the WRX STI, is there any one year that was better than another?
I like the Focus ST as well, and it's gotten pretty darn good reviews. From a car enthusiast point of view, I think the front wheel drive is it's major detraction.

You can't go wrong with the STI from any of the last few years. The WRX got a big boost between 2007 and 2008, but if you get a WRX you can just get a brand new one for <$30k. Even a brand new STI is in your budget.

thanks worm! my neighbor across the street bought a beautiful red Focus ST for his kid, and every morning I see it and it makes me happy, but it sounds like the STI is really what I'm looking for. I should make sure to tool it up and look like a complete old wanna-be.
