Feel Good Story (1 Viewer)

Think I've read this thread a dozen times--it's an inspiration on all fronts. Happy Mothers Day to your family; glad she's doing well. Irving Falu has a fan club in this place. :)

What an awesome story. All the best on this Mothers day to Mrs. KIA!

Man, it is a bit dusty in here!

I'm really enjoying following and rooting for Falu:

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost said INFs Irving Falu and Johnny Giavotella will serve in a platoon at second base with 2B Chris Getz (rib cage) on the disabled list.

We're hoping he stays up for another three weeks. Planning a trip to KC for a weekend of baseball and letting my son see his idol play at Kaufman stadium. Unfortunately, work precludes us from making the trip any sooner so I hope Getz takes a little bit longer to heal.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) The Kansas City Royals have recalled infielder Yuniesky Betancourt from his minor league rehab assignment and optioned Irving Falu to Triple-A Omaha.

Knew it was coming - but Irving proved his value as a utility player and the Royals are notoriously dumb. Maybe this will open the doors for him to get traded where he can be utilized for the utility player that he is. Glad to have him back in Omaha - but he is wasting his time here.

Back up!

Royals | Irving Falu chosen over Johnny Giavotella

Wed, 20 Jun 2012 22:22:15 -0700

The Kansas City Royals opted to recall INF Irving Falu from Triple-A Omaha Wednesday, June 20, over 2B Johnny Giavotella largely because of his versatility. "He can play multiple positions," manager Ned Yost said. "(SS Yuniesky Betancourt) is going to play the majority of time at second base. So I wanted a guy who could also play third and short."

####### awesome story...

Your wife is hot.

And I've got a reason to watch the Royals...offseason just got a little better. :banned:

/ETA and I mean that in the most respectful way possible

Oddly, by playing for over a month in the majors, he didn't even make the all-PCL team...but he has been a leader all year and they open the playoffs tonight against the Albuquereque Isotopes here at home. Hopefully when this wraps up he will get the callup for the last few weeks.

this guy is awesome and thanks for posting this awesome story and i hope that your wife keeps on beating the cancer and that your son and you are doing good and that this guy goes far because we need more guys like this out there take that to the bank right there and then some brohans

Thanks. Funny that my wife had her one year checkup today and all is good. Today is the start of the PCL playoffs for Irving. So much symmetry - couldn't have planned this stuff better. As for the son, he is playing fall ball, got 5 Ks in 2 IP last Sunday and still plans on letting me sit in the dugout when he makes the big leagues...says I can't live with him though, because he will be grown up then and that would be wierd.

Nice guy - we were going to go this weekend but couldn't due to Fall Ball games...last homestand is on a Monday-Wed...wife not buying the idea of pulling the 13 year old from school for 3 days to watch Irving play.

Great story! My wife is also a cancer survivor. While her's was a much more treatable cancer, it kind of sucks thinking you might be raising a family with out the misses!

Congrats to you guys and Falu. With so many stories of crappy athletes making stupid decisions and not appreciating what they have, its pretty cool to read a story like this.

I'm always rooting for Falu thanks to this thread.

Hopefully the Padres are a good place for him to catch on!

Padres | Irving Falu claimed

Thu, 26 Jun 2014 11:25:42 -0700
The San Diego Padres have claimed INF Irving Falu off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers.

Infielder Falu rejoins Brewers' organization

MILWAUKEE -- Irving Falu's season took another twist Thursday, when he was re-claimed by the Milwaukee Brewers off waivers. The infielder had been claimed from Milwaukee by the Padres on June 26, and after just 11 games with San Diego, he'll be headed back to the Brewers' Triple-A affiliate in Nashville.

Falu began his career in the Kansas City organization and spent a decade developing with the Royals before being released last November. He signed a Minor League contract with the Brewers in December and played in 11 games for Milwaukee -- going 0-for-10 at the plate -- before being claimed off waivers by the Padres.

Falu played in 11 games for San Diego and batted .150 (3-for-20) before winding up back on waivers. The 31-year-old played second base exclusively for San Diego, but he's played at shortstop and third base for the Brewers this year. Falu, for his career, has batted .277 (33-for-119) in the Majors.
