Regarding calling a politician a piece if ####...ummmm, our two choices were Trump and Hillary. If we aren't even allowed to describe people accurately, then yeah, might as well keep the ban on political threads. IMO you can use that type of language in an informative way if you're backing it up with facts, and what's the big deal if you're not referring to a fellow poster in those terms? The rule is be excellent to each other -- public figures should be fair game.

I could name about 50 members of congress who are pieces of #### too, and most of Trump's cabinet appointees.
Only 50?

Hopefully we can keep this together guys.  I was suspended for 7 months and I really missed this place.  It reminds me of an old people's home.  Everyone is really crotchety, there are fights over someone sitting in someone else's chair at dinner, but in the end it's companionship.  Let's do this eh?  Keep the generalizations down.  Focus on the issues and not make it personal.  If you have been personally attacked, let it go.  And yes, I need to do this as well.  I've been with you ####ers for over 15 years and I feel like you are all family - in a sick, sort of twisted way.
Just curious, what did you do to get a 7 month ban? Seems like a very random amount of time.

Why do you think calling people tools is excellent behavior?  This kinda stuff doesn't make sense.
And the trolling continues here...
You suggest I'm the one trolling when I ask you why you think this is a good idea?  Odd.  You know what the definition of trolling is, right?

Trolling: make a deliberately offensive or provocative online post with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them.
Wouldn't that definition fit your comment and not mine?

I suggest you're trolling when I clearly made a point that toolish behavior immediately took over a new thread but instead of opining on that you try to make it about me and the word tool. Nice try.

Well, i've been called worse, on these boards no less.  Tim seems like a good guy who means well.  But it's kinda silly to be called a troll by someone who is exhibiting the behavior of a troll.  I'm not looking for him to get banned or a timeout, it's just why act like that, and then when called on it, accuse the person of being a troll?  It's like a thief, caught in the act, pointing at a police office and saying that they're the criminal.  Seems silly but i'm not sure what i expected.

You literally called people "tools".    Here is your quote:

Nice try whoknew. Thread brought out the tools immediately.
I haven't called you a name.  I haven't attempted to insult you.  I'm not trying to make you mad.  Yet you call me a troll, despite your post fitting the exact definition of trolling.

I'm done with this, it's just silly at this point.

Exhibits 1A and 1B as to the type of posts that add nothing to a thread.  Moderate/ban these types of posts.
Did you see the previous posts that I responded to?

Because I think you have the wrong starting point there
I didn't mean to single out you and Max and maybe I should have gone back one further.  My point however is that I see a lot of irrelevant back and forth that just derail a thread. Personally I just keep scrolling but it seems like those are the types of posts that have contributed to threads being deleted.

My personal feeling is the FFA needn't be moderated with the same heavy hand that a Shark Pool thread should be. In the SP, there's a purpose to keeping a thread on topic.  FFA threads are supposed to be for casual posting and fun (imho).  No one's going back and researching a FFA thread like you will a SP thread.  Mature adults should be able to scroll past the bickering.

And like I mentioned, we're just beginning the presidency of the most controversial POTUS in our lifetime.  Good luck keeping the FFA free of political talk.

Ok - one more thing... The trolling of Squistion and Sho nuff needs to stop.  Both of these guys have been long-time posters on this board.  We may disagree with what they are saying, but lets ease up on them.  Treat them with respect going forward.

I agree with Sho but @squistion stalks me throughout the board . He need to play by the rules as well

and btw I have to say Sho is a trooper. He slings it but always takes the shot back without crying

I get it, but let's ease up.  Both of these guys are informed posters, and though we disagree with them, let's just do a restart,eh?  I ask this asa friend.

Where are all these rules posted.  Are they buried in the middle of some random thread.  It is very fitting and closely matches the implementation.

No issue with you...even the trolling really. It's humorous that people want to take that time hoping to get a reaction out of me.

These are the entirety of the rules for the FFA:

Footballguys Free For All

Topics allowed:

  • Anything and everything Non-NFL.
- Side note: if anyone should dare to post an OP re: baseball or basketball it will not be removed as a matter of practice. Even NFL OP's re: such things as deflategate and the Rams have been allowed to stay.

  • Keep it clean.
  • Be excellent to each other.
  • No whining.

Then why all this talk about political threads not being allowed.

Seems to me two things have happened.

1) Mods have decided to engage in some of the back and forth. This made them more aware of what is going on.

2) Speculation on my part...Some posters are using the report button too much because they have thin skin. This causes a headache for the mods.

Absolutely. This happened in the Trump and Sanders threads a a long time ago - posters aggravated about content can manipulate the system by pushing the button constantly, overloading the system and overworking the mods. Timeouts get constantly MMQB'd and 'fairness' demanded -> more aggravation -> shut down the whole thing.

Not saying that did or didn't happen but Dodds has repeatedly explained why he's shut things down and everyone ignores it. Some even double down and attack him. It's really the tool factor by almost everyone in political thread. Today's new thread immediately started up with the nonsense.

Did people ignore it in the Russian thread? Where? Funny, we don't have the thread to look at now do we? I don't see the point of destroying a thread over just locking it. Seeing what happened could be useful here. But we have no idea really.

I agree with David - and I thought it was abundantly clear to people - don't post sweeping statements about whole groups of people which could be taken as insulting or as reason for anger and retaliation. In fact this seems like a normal part of conversation and decent human interaction.

But if the standard is made too vague whereby all it takes is just one mod who thinks people are being categorized (maybe in just one exchange in the page he happens to be reading?...) to destroy a whole thread.... makes the whole exercise sort of pointless. It's pretty capricious, anything can happen, so why bother.

Don't worry, not chasing windmills here. Just being constructive. I hear you, but this seems to be an impossible impasse at this point, because it appears anything can be taken the wrong way.... or posters can take time and effort and thought to discuss and explore an issue... only to find it zapped for no really good reason. Honestly it's pointless.

Yeah only magaw can explain why he deleted the thread instead of just stepping out of it.

@squistion's twitter was exposed in the thread where people were trying to doxx CTSU.  Squis is obsessed with pigeons.  Hilarity ensued.  Now it is used to troll him.
But it shouldn't be as I had nothing to do with CSTU welching on his bets:

My answer to the question "what has changed" is just "Trump."  It's a little difficult to tell for sure because of all the aliases but I don't remember a lot of the pro-Trump posters here posting in the political threads in the pre-Trump era.  HellToupee is one exception, maybe one or two others.

There's clear communication problem between the Trump guys and the anti-Trump guys.  They don't trust the same news sources, they use language (and smileys) differently, they have a ton of mistrust towards each other.  They see the world in just completely different ways.

It's a challenge but hopefully we can figure out a common language so that we can engage in real discussion.  I do see it happening sometimes, just not often enough.

This is like the 200th time you've quoted this.  :cstu:

Not true and I was there.
Just tell the full story. Many posters (people you lump in as trumpets even) were kind to you and let you know you were posting personal information in one of your numerous twitter copy and paste posts (that hundreds of posters called you a troll for doing). You responded to those kind posts very rudely and then someone else finally outed your account.  You aren't nearly as innocent as you try to claim.
