Not sure why people can't just follow the rules.
At least today Joe clarified that there are different sets of rules for different people.

Hopefully everyone can figure out which demographic they fit into and behave accordingly.

A couple months ago, I made an uncouth joke towards GoBirds about MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched.  I fully intended this be a joke; I wasn't implying such an event actually happened, and I thought choosing MSNBC host Chris Hayes as the third person in the room was so absurd no one would think I meant that MSNBC host Chris Hayes actually had sex with his wife while he watched.  When I typed it out, I was of the mindset of the old "Playing The Dozens" game on the playground.  You know, stuff like "Yo mama's like 7-Eleven: on every corner, open all night, 99 cents for a big Slurpee."  I'd been hanging out with some of my old GI Bill students earlier in the day, one of them had this bumper sticker on his car, the "yo mama" jokes were flying, no harm was done to any animals being filmed.

I didn't think GoBirds would take so much offense to a joke about MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched because he's so quick to make fun of how overly sensitive those snowflake liberals are.  Lots of assertions of "hysteria" and such.  So I figured the guy could take a fraction of what he dishes out when I made that joke about  MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched.  But like many conservatives on this board have demonstrated, he can't take what he dishes out and expects perfection who anyone who disagrees with them.  He's willing to defend Trump's honor even after Trump cheated on all three of his wives, bragged on tape about sexually assaulting women, and bragged on radio about walking in on girls in various stages of undress, but make one joke about MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched and you're basically Satan.

Anyway, a couple hours after I made that joke about MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched, I decided maybe it wasn't such a good idea to leave that post up, because it was probably unfair to expect GoBirds to be able to take a joke even after observing him taking myriad cheap shots over several months about how sensitive liberals are.  So I logged back in to delete my joke about MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched, only to find it had already been deleted.  I wasn't sure if that was good or bad, but decided not to draw any more attention to it.

TBH I thought the 3 days was an appropriate punishment, but adding that extra hour seemed excessive.  Still, Joe's a good guy and I knew I crossed the line when I made that joke towards GoBirds about MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched, so I didn't bother appealing that extra hour.

So there's this little gaggle of conservative posters who really don't like that I post here.  They don't really like to engage in topics deeply, so instead of debating intellectually, they try to "win" by goading me into picking fights.  Sometimes it works, like when I post jokes towards GoBirds like MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched.  But most of the time it doesn't, and then they whine, whine, whine to the mods about how unfair everything is.  I tried steering their behavior by asking open-ended followup questions to their posts to try to engage them in debate, but they usually avoided the question and instead complained about favorable treatment I get from the mods and calling me a "stalker" when I was genuinely trying to get them to discuss the topic at hand.

I didn't publicly mention I'd been suspended for that post about MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched, so I guess that gaggle thought I hadn't been suspended at all.  So oh man, how they liked to bring it up.  I was kinda surprised the incident was less than two months old given how many times since GoBirds et al had complained about that time I joked about MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched, and falsely claiming the mods didn't do anything about it.  And they kept complaining to me about it as if I'm a mod and made the decision; I'm not a mod, and they did something about it - they took away my posting privileges for 3 days and 1 hour because I joked that GoBirds was the victim of MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched.

After several rounds of this, I started mentioning to GoBirds (and others) that they were wrong about this.  I think my phrase of choice was "objectively false".  But not once did they inquire why I said that, nor did they ask a mod about it.  Either they didn't trust what I was saying was true, or they didn't want their preconceived notions challenged and risk having to admit being wrong about something.  So that's when I added the "you liar" flourish.  And then things escalated a bit.  GoBirds really doesn't like being called a liar.  He doesn't mind lying (he frequently makes untrue claims about people and the world when he's trying to win an argument), but call him a liar and it is on.  So after weeks of GoBirds thinking I hadn't been suspended for that time I made a joke about MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched, I mentioned I had been suspended personally by Joe for it.  And by "it", I mean, "that joke I made towards GoBirds about MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched".

I was wrong to joke that GoBirds was witness to MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched.  It clearly was wrong to say, I regret saying it, and I deserved to be suspended for it.  I can't promise others won't continue to bring up that time I offended GoBirds by saying MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched, but I'm done talking about the incident.  And when you see who will continue to bring it up many times over the next few months, don't think too deeply about how these guys routinely defend the honor of a serial adulterer who bragged about committing sexual assault, but totally lose it over one joke about MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched, and refuse to forgive, forget, and move on.  That's who they are, and they are under no obligation to change.

So that's the story about the time I got suspended for joking GoBirds was witness to MSNBC host Chris Hayes having sex with his wife while he watched.  I won't bring it up again.  I look forward to moving on.

Wow, just can't let it go? What part of Joe saying "drop it"did you think didn't apply to you? Hopefully your behavior will be handled appropriately, not taking the bait.

That is some quality bait right there.

Now Joe has a golden opportunity: either live up to the rules he laid out earlier today or bend the knee and allow Bruce to make a mockery of FBG and the moderators.

ETA: My guess is one of Bruce's mod buddies comes in and deletes all these posts before Joe wakes up in the morning.

I got em archived if anyone needs them.
Not sure what's a mockery or why anyone would want this deleted. He did something well over the line. He got suspended. He posted a long and detailed apology.

For someone with 82 posts, you seem to know a lot about the message boards.

The apology part is great, but when it is sprinkled with things like:

'"because it was probably unfair to expect GoBirds to be able to take a joke even after observing him taking myriad cheap shots over several months about how sensitive liberals are."

When there are personal shots embedded inside it kind of takes away from the apology.  This is why people can read the same thing and have a completely different response.  It is all in what you are looking for or expecting.

Agreed. I didn't say it was a good apology.

Now let's move forward.

Every month or so I come into this thread it reminds me of how grateful I am Joe moved all the trash (complete with ad hominems and snark) into its own space in the PSF.

Real question is who is Chris Hayes?  I had to Google him.

I'd be pretty upset if my wife had sex with Chris Hayes, and I definitely wouldn't appreciate someone bringing it up constantly.
wait... was it gobird's wife having sex with chris hayes while gobirds watched, or was it chris hayes' wife having sex with chris hayes while gobirds watched?

I have no dog in any of these fights and I think the consensus is the poster you quoted is DFSguy, JamesBrownKid, and a bunch of other Conservative aliases that have been banned. I don't pay attention enough to have an opinion on it, but again, that's prob consensus and it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I'm an Independent, I try to avoid the bickering between the Liberal and Conservative posters here, although I really find it annoying and glad most of it has shifted to a subforum I don't visit.

With that being said, Bruce's response above was clearly just being a full on instigator. Everyone sees it, hence the numerous likes it has, & I don't interact much with either poster involved in that dispute, I'm just pointing out the obvious.

You started a thread about moderation, I asked some very direct questions about it with some real time examples. I mean, how many days is calling someone a nutjob worth? In comparison, instigating in a thread where moderation is being discussed and throwing it in someone's face, that isn't an offense?

I've received one timeout in the last two years so I'm doing something right, but it still doesn't make much sense to me.

It doesn't come off as consistent (IMO), I guess that is what I'm getting at. I don't care if RBM, Bruce Dickinson, GoBirds, NFLsuperFan#1, or someone with 82 posts receives a timeout, I'd just like to understand the reasoning behind it better.

Consistency would be nice.  Things that get people banned all the time, it is let go against me.  When I try to play by the rules, I try to refrain and let the moderators do their job, and I am told they are just going let it go because they don't have time for it.  The best way I can get action is to respond in kind and then I get banned and action is immediate.  But at least there becomes a chance the other guy will get it too.  It is frustrating.

Quick thoughts. I'm sure there is uneven moderation. It's going to be life with different moderators. Our goal is to be even but in reality, I'm sure we don't always hit the goal.

Same with posters. I try to be as objective as possible. I try not to argue directly with people as I don't think it's really fair as site owner.  So I don't think people get preferential treatment. What I do see repeatedly though is people think the people who disagree with them get preferential treatment. That's human nature.

We don't have a set "schedule" for suspension. We try to use common sense.

We'll factor in how over the line the comment is. And also past history.

In general, a guy who says something over the line might get a day on his first time. A guy that says something horrible on his first time might be gone for good. A guy that's been a long time good poster that says something over the line might get a lesser suspension than a guy that is constantly getting suspended. At some point, a guy who is constantly suspended will just be booted as they clearly aren't able to work within what we want.

Quick look at your page. You have suspensions for:

"You are such an a-wipe."

"BTW. You are an ###. And a stupid one at that."

"Bull#### and f-you."
That's part of the common sense thing. When someone reports you with something and you have this in your history, you get a closer look. Sorry if you think that's not consistent or not fair.  I'm not even saying it's the right way. But it's how we're going to operate here.

How about a steadfast rule about  not posting unsavory jokes about wives/husbands/kids going forward and call it a day

It was obvious trolling with how he repeated the same statement attempting to get a reaction. He does it on a daily basis, which I think causes confusion of where the line is with those of us that got a multi month for much less "trolling".

How about everyone just not be a Richard to anyone else.  To my knowledge everyone that posts here is supposed to be an adult human being, it's really not that hard.

Already a rule.  Just surprising the punishment for it is a fraction for calling someone a nutjob (when the alleged nutjob tossed out the first insult too).

The apology this morning was a joke meant to taunt as FC said too.  I try to avoid Bruce myself but he definitely has a different set of rules than everyone else.  Just look at what he said to Dodds too.  Who has a history worse than that mixed with a wife comment on a guy?

Then ignore him.  Don't respond to him, if you feel like he's baiting you then don't rise to it.

Oh I do, since its become obsessive in any thread and it was now in here this seems like the appropriate thread and the concerns raised are valid. Have never had to use the ignore function but you're right time to learn.

I have gotten emotional at times, but what are the context of those?  I assume one of those was the day Nancy Reagan died and all people could do was go on and on about her "Just Say No" campaign and using that to blame her for the war on drugs and millions of blacks being incarcerated and thousands of blacks being killed.  This went on for page after page and for several hours after I initially reported it.  I don't instigate fights.  I have had stalkers under numerous alias (mad Sweeney had at least 3 aliases) who would stalk me and start fights with me on a daily basis.  I do applaud that those were eventually weeded out.  When I get stalked and attacked, I respond after a while.  But I am not the one who makes things personal.  Poster here have several pet names for me and start in on me and will start in on me with them.  Again, moderators are getting better and I see less of that now, so thanks for that.  I have refrained from losing it, and I will continue to do so.  But I was hoping the past was the past on that kind of stuff.

No you aren't ignoring him.  You've been harping on it for several days.  Just let it go, it's not worth getting yourself stressed out no matter the circumstances or whoever is "right".

Do you have children?  If so just say to yourself what you'd say to them if they ran into a bully at school.

I hear what you're saying but it's also saying it's cool for the other guy to say whatever he wants because he clearly does it to several posters and clearly has the leeway to get away with it.  Would you ignore it if someone were baiting you constantly?

No not at all.  I should have added to report the poster as Joe has asked several times.

Same applies to you, feel free to ignore.  All good here bud.

why would I ignore you?  I don't have a problem with you, just saying that if you feel Bruce or whomever is genuinely trolling you repeatedly then just ignore them and report them.  It's not worth you getting yourself stressed out over it.

:lmao:  You're really going to try defending that stuff. Good god.

OMG, people stalk me, OMG, he said this and I can't call him an #######, OMG it's not fair. Can't make this stuff up.
