FFA Official Horror Movie Thread Catching up on Shudder and Various Streaming Platforms (1 Viewer)

We saw it Saturday night (my son and I).

We liked the first one better. But if you are a Grindhouse fan this is over the top insane. The kills were some of the best we have ever seen. Fantastic makeup effects and Art The Clown is simply one of the creepiest and most disturbed slashers in horror movie history.
Terrifier 1 ? didn't know that. cool, I'll watch that 1st.
thanx
Terrifier 1 is on vudu & tubi free (with commercials) I believe.
Just watched the first one last night on Tubi. Great character and one particularly gruesome kill among others.
The only thing that drove me crazy was:
The sister finally gets out of the building and decides to go right back in!

I don't think it qualifies as "horror," but it was horrific.

"Beast" with idris Elba got decent reviews, but I have never pulled so hard for the lion to just kill everyone more than this movie. Pretty much every character in this movie was unlikable other than the CGI lion. So many scenes where I was just screaming at the tv going "What are you doing?!!" It was almost like the people that did the GEICO commercial that made fun of the choices people make in horror movies, wrote this movie. "I know, we should split up. I got this I am going to wander off in the dark in the jungle. You stay here!!" Ughhhh, just a frustrating movie.

Pearl

It’s a little different from X, but it’s an origin story so it makes sense. Mia Goth (Pearl) sure does bring the crazy. Love the parallels between the Spanish Flu/COVID and all the X symbology throughout. The Hollywood flare is a bit much for me, but I like its contrast with the gory plot. Even the end credits are creepy af. 4/5

My son and I watched Jason Goes to Hell tonight. I brought the movie up when we were talking Halloween Ends and sequels in a horror franchise that went off the rails. I told him Friday 5 might need to be watched soon too.
I can’t stomach Jason Goes To Hell. I saw it in the theater the year it released…..and never ever watched it again. After Part VII The New Blood it was pure hot garbage….not that Parts 3,4,5,6 and 7 were not….but those were good garbage. Jason Takes Manhattan and Goes To Hell are unwatchable for me.

Now Jason X? I liked the effort. But it still was pretty bad.

I can watch 1-4 pretty much anytime and for me that is the core of that series. V, VI and VII it gets really crazy on the camp LOL. Watching Dudley (from Different Strokes) in Part 5 still makes me belly laugh.

Over the last few weeks, I have seen:
They Live in the Grey: Really enjoyed the first 3/4, but not a fan of how the ending was handled.
Ready or Not: I'm a sucker for dark comedy and absolutely loved it!
Nope: For me, it was though provoking and I appreciated the effort.
X: Liked the 80's slasher vibe, interested to see Pearl.

On the list: Green Room, Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Sadness (when I am prepared for it).

Ready or Not is really good. Have you seen You're Next?

Watched Rob Zombies “31”

Pretty standard Zombie horror flick.

Lot’s of white trash - check
Lot’s of gore and blood - check
Lot’s of wild killers with crazy personalities? - check

Enjoyable and the main baddie was quite entertaining. Basically a running man type story set in 1976 in terms of a bunch of lunatics setting out to kill 5 people who are captured by these British people who run this game every Halloween.

If you like Zombie’s style of white trash crude horror (I swear I always want to take a shower after any of his films). You will enjoy it.

I watched Elvira's Haunted Hills last night. It was on Joe Bobs Last Drive in and Cassandra Peterson was the guest. Such a cheesy but fun movie. The boob jokes just never got old and some of the over the top acting is hilarious. I loved the "stable boy's" out of sync dubbing. I did not know that Cassandra Peterson was part of the groundlings. She had a few really interesting stories and much of the cast from this movie were from the groundlings.
I am moving onto Popcorn which is the second movie on Joe Bob's Haunted Halloween Hangout. I am watching this on Shudder.

Barbarian

Wow. This movie is really ###### up. Went in not knowing anything about it, but it’s definitely worth watching. 4.25/5

Watched "A Classic Horror Story" on Amazon. A group of strangers carpool in a motorhome that crashes and they wake up in the middle of a forest with a strange building that is used by a satanic cult.

It was a bit odd but kept my interest: 3.25 / 5

We loved it. Very bizarre in a good way.

Not a movie but the Guillermo del Toro Cabinet Of Curiosities is pretty darn entertaining.

The autopsy one was some of the best horror/sci fi I've seen in a bit.

Popcorn is one of those movies that is so bad it's entertaining. I really can not recommend this one.
Yeah we watched it again after not seeing since when it came out. Pretty awful. So 1990. Agree so bad it’s good in a twisted way.

The Babysitter and The Babysitter - Killer Queen

Both movies are a lot of fun and are pretty hilarious imo. Enjoyed them as a double feature. 3.75/5

I thought Barbarian started off great .

Then became a horror film cliche `
Reminded me of other movies such as the Descent and every movie where the person / creature keeps getting up after surely being killed.

The end felt rushed.

I would love more on the back story tho, the creepy serial killer

Not sure if I watched the same movie but Barbarian wasn't really good. Took an hour to get to the scares and wasn't even really good after that. Disappointed. Really hoped for a good one.

Cliche is not at all how I would describe Barbarian.
It had a Hostel feel with the room and camera .
It looked a lot like the creatures in the descent .
The creature wouldn't die like every horror movie around ,just keeps getting up.
The ending got strange with the homeless guy saying the creature has never come near his area then at that moment she attacks him and tears his arm off and beats him with it...really/
The the top of the tower when the girl falls off first then the creature dives after her and ends up underneath her, what is she ironman with propulsion shoes lol...just goofy .

Like i said , it had potential to be really interesting but lost its way 2/3rds in

For sure but at this point it's rare to get a horror movie (or any media) that isn't full of cliches. It's all been done before. I think the set-up was well constructed, the hard cut that comes in the middle is incredible, the tone and tonal shifts are well done, it has humor, etc. They created a pretty unique film. Yes it is made of very familiar ingredients but combined in an unusual yet satisfying combination.

Dont get me wrong,i really enjoyed it,loved the serial killer in the neighborhood premis back when nobody thought about that kind of thing so it was easy to get away with it. Id love to see that guys story in a prequel that shows his story and how he created that monster . I was hoping for a more gruesome death for the actor guy, what a jerk
