I haven't personally played on it, but I have a few friends who have. Mixed reviews on ease of cash outs, but overall they seem to like it. Global used to do Paypal which made things really easy, but I don't believe that's an option anymore. Players are the worst you'll find on an online site.
The other two choices are America's Card Room/Black Chip and Ignition. ACR allows you to utilize a HUD, so improving your game is a lot easier when you're able to see your leaks and trend lines. The drawback is that it is WAY harder... you'll be playing against a ton of regs and the poor players are not so poor. Ignition is where I play now... the interface isn't the best but they've got enough games where you won't find a problem, the players are bad (maybe not quite as bad as Global, but bad), and my cash out experiences have been reasonably good. Can't comment on the legality of it all though. But those work in the US unlike Stars.

Most clubs are running plo now, in fact most Florida based ones run plo more than holdem.
my main club runs “ROE” (round of each) most nights now.

Global poker or offshore you do and you need to post the money.
Local clubs there is none of that nonsense. It’s run by a local agent on credit that you settle up with at the end of the week. It’s a good setup but you need to make sure they are reliable.

Yeah this is the local app du jour. it’s really slick and works well on a phone or iPad.
the trick here though is you need to trust the person running it and make sure the players are solid. You get just one player who runs up a big bill at the end of the week and decides at the end of it he’s not going to pay or be slow paying the agent at the middle of it is going to be in a tough spot. Need to have reliable people.

It's been a few years, but in the past when we did FBG games on PokerStars everyone just settled up after each tournament/night. Might be fun to get a regular game going again.
The Pokerrrr app seems pretty great for an easy mobile solution everyone can use. I just downloaded it and created an Fbg group. I think if you go to Club and type in #vbs26 it will show up. If we have enough interest I'll try to coordinate tournaments.

You get points (or whatever) when you sign up and then I had my wife and 2 kids sign up so I could do a trial run on a tourney. I had each of them use my referral code when they signed up. That gave me enough points to host games for a while. It does cost more points to do a custom game as opposed to using the default settings.
An iPad is definitely better than a phone for my old eyes. I can play the game no problem on my phone, but I can barely see the chat. My kids had no problem though.

The biggest returns are on developing a solid pf strat. You should be able to find a vanilla hand chart on 2p2 and some principles for 3betting.
Get those down *on paper* and refer to them frequently as you practice. Once you're playing not too nitty and getting into some interesting spots, you can focus more on flop play.
google around for "PLO from scratch" if you're willing to dive into a math based approach.

Maybe the ffa poker thing but definitely not poker in general. Live games are seeing great numbers and some would say the pandemic sort of created another little poker "boom". (Not nearly as big as the Moneymaker boom of course).

Live games are incredible right now. The poker room here is packed and when I was in Vegas last week they were slammed. The poker dealers said it was the busiest they’d been in a decade. Poker as a whole is still smaller though because online is basically dead. You can find a little action like ACR, but nowhere near what it was. RIP to the days of 50/30/20 sngs that were basically an ATM.
Yes, I would say their books are definitely still relevant. You can become a good player capable of beating 2/5 nl live by reading their books and putting in the study/practice time.
(Says a guy who's not a great player so take it fwiw)

No funny business tonight. I have an unbeatable new plan for this session so I buy in for my entire bank roll again, against my moms well wishes. She doesn’t understand I play better when my life is on the line and it’s a profitable move for me long term.
She never understands.
At first glance at all of my table mates, I already know tonight is gonna be the softest game I’ve ever played in.
McDermott always said if you wanna win you gotta play players weaker than yourself. Good thing my max bench is 125 and these wahoos can’t even sniff that. I’m predicting 113 dollars will be my hourly tonight.
I have 1800 in chips and am reciting my poker affirmations in my head.
You will win your all ins. You are GTO. Trust your live reads. Don’t tilt. You are the baddest boy ever. I recite these in my head over and over and over.
The dealer, jasmine, is a gorgeous 5/10. just my type. I can’t risk repeating what happened earlier with ally happening again though. So I quit my fantasizing immediately and focus on the game.
