2012 Olympics Artistic Gymnastics Wagering Guide
USA Women's Artistic Team GOLD +130 at SB, +134 at Pinny. This has dropped from +183 at open and +175 a couple weeks ago thanks to "The Flying Squirrel" Gabby Douglas's breakout performances on the USA circuit this summer. I think this is a
3-unit play. USA has two threats for the individual all-around podium in Jordyn Wieber and Douglas, world vault champ McKayla Maroney has recovered from her concussion and nailed the Amanar at the Trials, and Ali Raisman is a three-apparatus contributor with surprisingly low variance for elite gymnastics.
USA's huge edge on vault scoring will more than make up for their relative weakness on bars, big vault numbers will take the pressure off during beam, and the top teams are bunched too closely together on floor for anyone to make a big move there. I loved this team at +175 when I last posted leans here, but I still like 3 units to make 4ish at current prices +130 or +134.
Kohei Uchimura (JPN) GOLD MEDAL in Men's All-Around -320 at SB, -314 at Pinny. He can be challenged on individual apparatuses, but no one is in his class all-around. Lots of wood here, but he's a bigger favorite than hsi price indicates. Lay down enough
to win 2 units.
Viktoria Komova (RUS) GOLD MEDAL in Women's Uneven Bars -115 at SB, +134 at Pinny. Komova is the #2 female gymnast in the world, bars are her best event, and none of the USA girls are a threat. I loved this one when it opened at -104 at Pinny, not crazy about -115 at SB but still playable, ecstatic about positive juice on Komova at Pinny.
2 unit play.
Jordyn Wieber (USA) GOLD MEDAL on Individual All-Around +100 at SB, +119 at Pinny. Wieber is the world champ and has won pretty much everything since she started competing regionally as a junior. She opened at -104 at Pinny, but with Komova healthy and Douglas's breakout, it seems like the gap is closing. There's also the whispering that Wieber's jock demeanor rather than acting like a pretty little flower doesn't play as well with older Eastern judges than Western one, but the new scoring system implemented last year mitigates that quite a bit. Downgrading to
1 unit because of Komova and Douglas, but still a play.
