SHARPS REPORT - THURSDAY/FRIDAY EDITION

THURSDAY NIGHT

NY JETS AT NEW ENGLAND: Because of the nature of early betting, some stores opened this line as high as New England -13 or -12.5. Sharps have generally been coming in on the Jets at that high line, particularly with the news that Danny Amendola was extremely limited in practice this week. You probably know that running back Shane Vereen has been placed in Injured Reserve for two months because of a broken hand. As we got to press, we’re seeing lines as low as Jets +11.5 and +11. Sharps clearly like the Jets at +13, +12.5, +12, and +11.5. Wise Guys tend not to lay big numbers in the NFL…so there may not be a buy back on the Patriots unless the number goes as low as -10.

Given the nature of public betting on game days (which tends to back big favorites), we’re likely to see a tug-of-war before kickoff with squares betting the Patriots, and sharps trying to get a favorable price on the Jets.

The total is down from an opener of 44.5 to 43, with money reacting to injury news. Given the fast style of New England’s play, we’re hearing that the numbers guys would probably come in on the Over at 43, and certainly at anything lower than 43. Of course, sharps will be watching weather reports before making their final decisions on any big totals bets.

TCU AT TEXAS TECH: This game opened at TCU by 6, and has been bet all the way down to just TCU -3. Some of that was confirmation that quarterback Casey Pachall was out for two months with a broken arm. But we’re hearing that many Wise Guys have been impressed with Texas Tech out of the gate…and are looking to back new head coach Kliff Kingsbury before the line catches up. Kingsbury was a part of what created line value last year for Texas A&M (where he was the offensive coordinator). The Red Raiders are 2-0 ATS so far in the new season.

There wasn’t a rush of TCU money when the key number was hit, which is telling. Be sure to monitor line moves in the hours before kickoff to see if numbers below three get tested. Stores posting an early total saw Over money hit at 62 and 62.5.

TULANE AT LOUISIANA TECH: An ugly game because neither team has played well yet this season. Louisiana Tech opened at -7.5. That number stood pat for awhile…suggesting sharps wanted no part of the underdog. But, very late Wednesday it was clear that some Wise Guy money had started to come in on the underdog. A few stores tested Louisiana Tech -7 instead of -7.5.

We’re not hearing much enthusiasm for this game from sharps. Top bettors usually want at least one clear facet of play that represents a strength for their side. Neither of these teams has shown much so far.

TROY AT ARKANSAS STATE: Arkansas State opened at the key number of -10, and was bet down immediately all the way to Troy +8. That’s very clear sentiment for the road underdog…at numbers that will no longer be available to stragglers unless the public comes in on the home favorite. That could happen…but it’s less common in games that aren’t prominently televised.

FRIDAY NIGHT

AIR FORCE AT BOISE STATE: The first stores to open had this game at Boise State -21.5 or -22…but they were hit hard with favorite money from the sharps. Later openers came up at Boise State -24. We’re mostly seeing a tug-of-war at that number…with some dog money coming in at +24, but favorite money stepping back in at Boise State -23.5.

Note that Air Force lost its starting quarterback in the season opener vs. Colgate. New starter Jaleel Awini struggled when playing from behind against Utah State last week. He’ll probably be playing from behind on the blue turf at Boise…which is why sharps where so quick to hit openers below -24.

Tonight:

NYJ/NE U 43 - 110: i think Brady will find a way to methodically drive the Pats with a short passing game to Thompkins and Edelman as well as pounding Ridley. I like BB to do enough to a rookie QB on the road that the Jets find it to be tough sledding offensively.
Pretty much how I see it too.

Nobody cares, but I had a hand last night where I turned quad 4's and two guys with A-A and K-K paid me $950 each for the privilege. 15 minutes later I gutter balled a Q high st8 flush for $1500 and a $100 bonus. First time I was there till closing at 4AM. Mrs Ref wasn't impressed until I showed her the size of my stack.

I really thought I'd wake up this AM and my Patriots radar would tell me that 12 isn't enough (I know my Patriots). Nope. I'm staying away.

I do like both big overs tonight in the NCFF. TCU/TROY O 40/104

How do you negotiate the poker playing time with wifey?

Do you have a set schedule where you're allowed or...?

My ex wife would nag me to death if I was at the table for 2 hours, let alone 5 am. She'd be blowing up my texts stating I need to come home and help her take the dog out. :lmao: ####### ####

BTW - for Philly FBGs. I'll be playing lounge/jazz piano for a few hours in the KOP Sullivan's Steakhouse next month.

Come take the wifey out for a nice dinner and listen to the smooth sounds of Bender on the ivories.

Last year for my bday i was at dinner iwth the GF and she asked me what I wanted to do with my night. I told her I'd really like to hit this illegal ghetto ### poker game in an abandoned strip mall shop for an hour. She laughed (knows I play occasionally but doesn't like me playing there because of pics I've showed her of the game). I insist it's safe so she comes along.

I buy in per usual for $200 (Aggro 1/2NL game w/ wildly varying stack sizes) and grab a seat. Introduce ruthe to the giant kimbo slice lookin security dude (who's promptly chatting her up showing her pics of his kids and getting along famously, dude's a mean ### looking teddy bear). Anyways... like most games they have a "win big and you gottta stay another hour" rule. I inform T (head guy) that I've got exactly 1 hour window and promised my girl I'd leave. He laughed and said no prob.

I sat at the table and set my timer on my phone for 1 hour. Tell everyone the deal. alarm goes off and I finish that orbit and I'm out. No objections. We start playing. I won't bore you with details but I tread water for 50ish mins. Up/down/up/down but holding. Then with Big blind hitting me with less than 10 mins to go I announce this will be my final orbit.

THen the cards start coming....

Double up to 400ish... take another 3 way down to hit 750...yada yada. I simply can not lose. I stack or nearly stack 3-4 guys at the table and next thing I know I've got about 1300 in front of me and I'm in the big blind again. Time to go... These guys are of questionable backgrounds and look none to pleased that the only white boy in the room is leaving with about half the cash on the table.

I drop $50 as a "Pot splash" ($25 per pot for the next 2 pots). Tip the dealer $10 (been tipping every win). I Get up. As cashing out I tip the house another $75 as a thank you for allowing the 1 hour get up. Meanwhile GF is still chatting with Kimbo completely oblivious. She sees me "Holy #### I'm happy but we need to get the #### out of here NOW" face and gives me a puzzled look then says bye to Kimbo. I Grab my $1100+, say thanks again to T and ROLL OUT. Jump in the Jeep rushing the GF to do the same and got the #### out of there.

She was all like "WTF"?! Until I fanned out the wad of hundreds with my right and the expression changed

I've been too chicken#### to go back... it's been over a year. I still get text invites. Apparently the location has changed to a house even further in the hood.

Well Mrs Ref has a small case of "Momma guilt" because she is "the boss" at a full time job and in addition she goes to the gym and then on weekends she takes off by her self for an hour or two to get nails and hair done on occasion. Compare that to me who works from home drops off and picks up the kid from school, cooks and cleans..... So I guess our little unwritten rule is so long as I can drop off and pick up the kid and the house isn't falling apart she really hasn't said much at all.

I think she was a little surprised about the 4:30 AM wake up and thats "probably" crossing the line a little bit.... but she knows where I keep my poker chips and I got a $6K Pumpkin Patch going right now so I'm guessing any flack factor is going to be low. I did get up and take Miss Ref to school at 7AM, so what can she really say?

I guess the one other thing is she requests that I have my phone in front of me and reply to texts/calls quickly. One night last year my phone ran out of juice and the dog pissed in the house and she was mad that wasn't feeling her pain or something.

Going to Norman, OK this weekend. My son is playing in a showcase tournament at OU. As part of the weekend festivities, we get tickets to the OU/Tulsa game. Since I will be there, I'd like to get down on the game. Anybody have a lean on OU/Tulsa on Saturday?

Line is currently OU -24.5, total is at 49.5.

Thanks.

You can't make a legit poker room appear out of nowhere so I get needing to go where you need to go. That said, I'm all set with this type of set up. I've been told to come to a game or two "where we can save the rake". But it always seems to be the shady people that are running or playing in the game. If I'm going to play in marginally big games with potential thousand dollar pots and by extension potentially walking out with thousands of dollars I really like the idea that the place I'm playing has at least 2 County cops on site at all times.

Id like to think I'm a tighter player then most so I contribute less to the rake then others, but I've still dropped $500 in rake to the house the past 6-7 weeks. Thats kind of a lot of money, but I haven't been mugged yet either.

This lasts until you abuse it and take advantage of her "coolness". Don't make her regret giving ya that much freedom. I took it too far in the past and got my leash tightened up a bit. She's still way way way cooler than most chicks/sig others but even she would only take so much of me stumbling in at wee hours (or just not coming home) before she reeled me in a bit

This game is raked too. They provide booze/beer/snacks. Apparently now they have 2 hot black chicks that are "waitresses"... though knowing some of the guys in this crew I'm sure they're available for extras on the side.

Second night I ever went I went with 2 coworkers (one black, one white) and the white kid got wasted. Looks like peter griffin a bit. Started telling this one brother that he looked like kanye because he was all dressed up with french cuffs and ####. Got a chuckle the first time.... about the 15th time dude snapped at him "YOu think you're funny mother####er? You're the only one who thinks you're funny up in here. Your boys don't even look like they think you're funny anymore... and I DEFINITELY don't think you're funny anymore. Do YOU think you're funny? (pushes chair back). My buddy froze. after about 10 seconds of uncomfortable silence the whole room just   was awesome.

This is extremely solid advice. I'll talk her through the night at dinner. Way more often then not if I'm not home by 1-2AM it's a big $$ night for me and she sees this as a part time job of sorts.

It also helps that she likes to play cards as well and gets the concept of time not meaning anything in a poker room. She wont go by herself but we have gone on "dates" to have dinner and play cards and I'm the one who cashed at 1AM standing over saying "okay time to go" and she is the one saying "let me play my button", "I won that hand I need to play one more", "go to the bathroom and I'll stack up my chips and we will go" "okay just one more".

Now that it's posted, I can count it as a loss.

I have been doing Ok with the pitcher props of late so I figured I'd share them. 1/2 each.

Peavy under 4.5K's Even. His last 11 starts going all the way back to mid May he only went 5 or over 3 times. The small injury he had in June probably is contributing to this. Not sure why the -140 juice is to the over here.

Greinke Over 5.5K's -145. 5 of his last 6 starts have gone over and the Giants have all but quit on the year. It's a little pricy, but i like it.

I passed on the Joe Kelly IP prop, but I'd lean over.

Where the action is: Bettors fading injured Patriots

What was supposed to be a sure thing for the New England Patriots is looking less and less like an easy win, when the beleaguered Pats host the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football.

New England suffered through an awful offseason and nearly got knocked off in the opener versus Buffalo. Now, the Patriots are down two offensive weapons – RB Shane Vereen and WR Danny Amendola - and the betting public is showing their lack of faith in New England.

We talk to sportsbooks about the action coming in on this AFC East rivalry and where they expect the odds to close come kickoff Thursday night:

New York Jets at New England Patriots – Open: -12, Move: -13.5, Move: -11

Both the Jets and Patriots picked up wins in Week 1 but only one of those victories is being seen as a positive. Oddsmakers opened New England as a 12-point favorite after narrowly avoided an upset at the hands of the Bills and early money moved that spread just under two touchdowns.

However, once injury news got out on Vereen and Amendola, New York bettors came out of the shadows and trimmed this line as many as 2.5 points. New England is already missing many key weapons and will need its unknown skill players to step up on the big stage.

“As expected the money kept on coming for the Jets with the line shifting to 11.5, which has slowed the bettors down,” Russ Candler, head of trading at UWin.com told Covers. “It might not be enough for the line to hold at 11.5 and we’re certain the line will go off around the -11 mark. The early morning money will have a big say on the final number.”

The total has also shrunk in the past day, dropping as low as 42.5 after opening as high as 44.5 points. Both the Jets and Patriots played under the number in their Week 1 contests, however, New England boasted the fast-paced offense and was the best over bet in the NFL last season, going 11-5 over/under.

“After it was announced Danny Amendola wouldn’t play, the total dropped to 43.5 with 68 percent still on over,” Mike Perry of Sportsbook.com told Covers.

"The punters have attacked the point totals, taking the overs. Shoot out here we come," says Candler.

The Patriots are seeing the majority of action on the moneyline, even more so after books trimmed their straight-up price from as high as -750 to -588. According to Sportsbook.com, 88 percent of moneyline wagers are on New England.

Absolutely not... I'm a lucky guy.

i don't know, i would think it doesn't take too much money to move the line from say 13 to 11. wouldn't it be a lot more money moving a line from -6.5 to -7.5?

Just got pulled over for going 78 in a 60. Officer let me go without a warning.

It's my lucky day fellas....I'd tail whoever I tail. Who should I tail?

Thinking nfl under

Tcu

But if I think I could ruin it for everyone. Ill hang up and listen.

Hey guys wanted to share this information. I have this older guy that I work with that used to be a card dealer in Vegas. He is really into golf and is a very talented player (he missed the cut for a Senior PGA Tour Event by 2 strokes). I started talking to him and letting him know I bet on games and what not and he started giving me who he thought was going to win the upcoming PGA Tour Event. He did this 4 times and 1 time he picked right, 2 times he picked someone that was leading at some point, and still placed top 3. The other time he took Sergio and he had an awful tournament and ended up withdrawing. With that being said, I think he may be decent at the pick-ems for matchups. I gave him a list and here are the ones he likes. I'm not bidding on them, but I figure I'll see how he does and if he does well, I'll go back to him next week...

A Scott +126 over Woods

Stricker -145 over Kuchar

Mickelson +117 over Stenson

Garcia -125 over Spieth

Simpson +117 over Bradley

Haas -157 over Castro.

Let's see how the old man does
Don't like either of these. Stenson and Spieth have been the hottest players on tour.

How bout this Oakland game? Most everyone picking the Raiders straight up?
Holy fagoli

Can you turn down this signature?
:lmao: agreed, that threw me off. and i certainly don't think Raiders are a lock, that game is going to be sloppy, and i see no reason why Henne can't throw on that Oak secondary
Scrolling by it, I thought it was the play of the ####### century or something.

Got all excited.

Nope it's the skinny on someone elses fantasy team.

I'll just roll with GooRoo's plays.

This game is too unpredictable tonight.

Would anyone be that surprised if Jets covered by well better than the number?

Would anyone be that surprised if the Pats won by 30?

If the answer is no to both, it's a no bet

mquinn reached out earlier.

It's going to be a Wednesday unfortunately which sucks, but I'll let you know the date as soon as it's set in stone.

It's really nothing much - just playing only jazz standards in the bar area.

ETA: Eventually my band will find another singer (it's been rough), and we'll start playing out again and you can come out, get drunk, and listen to some awesome blues music instead of ####ty sleepy piano jazz

I haven't seen that sized font since we were touting the Ducks over last season.

Tone down the signature guy and be welcomed with open arms.

This is more or less exactly where I'm at. I do like overs across the board in the NCFF tonight as well.

At school, have class in 45 minutes, and am studying for a quiz right now. :sadbanana:
and funny enough, i know i'm jealous. Enjoy it while you have it bud
My bad Mo. Did not realize that. Trust me I am thankful. Real talk, you should win an award for being the nicest guy here. I was looking around today and saw a trend that underdogs of 10 or more are 5-14 ATS on Thursday night football since 1992. One of my pet peeves is arbitrary trends, and that is about as arbitrary as they come. The Pats are 5-11 ATS at home as faves of 10 or more the last 5 years. That trend seems way more relevant. I wish I was at home I would take Jets ML like Tiger Fan did, and ATS too for a little hedge. But I can say that all day since I'm not actually investing! <_<
