Oh Tim, are we going to go through this again?  Enforcing the laws on immigration is not xenophobia or hate.  It is enforcing the law.  Securing the border is not xenophobia.  It's national security and common sense.  And doing all of this will allow for more legal immigration.

You are right though - I do have a big problem with Islam right now.  I won't soft-pedal that one or apologize for it.  I think the religion itself is flawed and is in desperate need of a reformation - now.  I'd say the same thing if Christians were behaving this way today.

Yeah, the anti-gay thing has me a little confused.  Maybe I missed something, but I'm as strong an advocate for gay rights as anyone I've ever met.  I championed that stuff before it was even fashionable - you know, the days when cowards like the Clintons punted on it with the "don't ask don't tell" bull ####.  I'm all about freedom and self expression.  And variety is the spice of life.  Big believer in diversity as well.  In many ways I am more liberal than a lot of the hypocrites in here.

I'm all over the place on the gun issue.  Believe in the right to bear arms but I also believe that we have way too many guns in this country.  I think the Left would be better suited to focusing on softer ways of dealing with the issue - like educating people more on the dangers of guns, focusing on the numbers of people accidentally killed each year.

It's the reason cited by hundreds of pro-HB2 protestors in Raleigh yesterday.  "The media", as you term it, no longer really exists.  We all just live in our own self-curated echo chambers, so that objective facts no longer really exist.

Nothing funny about it.  I knew a guy who used to do this stuff professionally.  Yes, he actually got paid by companies to bust their yahoo message board with spam attacks.  Glad the mods saw fit to remedy that crap pronto.  :thumbup:

Isn't that law for the transwackos?  It's not about the gays. 

 
That's only one part of a much broader law that rolls back protections against many forms of discrimination, including LGBT, in the State of NC.

This is the riddle I'd love to see solved in this place.  I've seen all sorts of evidence on both sides.

Regardless, my opposition to illegal immigration is not really about them committing crimes (illegally being here aside).  It's about respecting the rule of law.

And a lot of people share that opinion. BUT- it is a nativist/populist POV, not a conservative POV.

Exactly. There is no "line" these people can get in, and crossing over the border is a misdemeanor at worst. So when guys like Higgs talk about the "rule of law", it's ridiculous; like imprisoning people for jaywalking.

I really don't care what you call it.  I call it respecting the law.  I visited several countries in Europe back in the 80's, even lived there on a few VISA's, and b]never would have dreamed of over-extending my VISA and living there illegally - let alone thinking I was also entitled to welfare benefits or college tuition breaks.  Play by the ####### rules.  That's all.

Our Legal immigration numbers are too low because the illegal immigration situation is out of hand.  Believe me, I want legal immigration.  A good amount of it too.  I don't want this country to turn into a stagnant pool.

Open the doors to legal immigration of Mexican poor people  in significant numbers and I will join you in fighting illegal immigration by the same people.

I have plenty of friends that aren't liberals that I don't think are trolls that I can have an actual conversation with. You don't try to do that with any of your posts.
