First 6 picks of the 1957 Draft (1 Viewer)

1 Green Bay Packers (Lottery bonus pick) Paul Hornung Halfback Notre Dame

2 Los Angeles Rams Jon Arnett Halfback USC

3 San Francisco 49ers John Brodie Quarterback Stanford

4 Green Bay Packers Ron Kramer End Michigan

5 Pittsburgh Steelers Len Dawson Quarterback Purdue

6 Cleveland Browns Jim Brown Fullback Syracuse

Even though Arnett was a 5 time pro-bowler it still looks like the Rams got screwed. The Packers hit a home run with Hornung, but you think they wish they had chosen Brown over Hornung? Probably not.

Edited: I was think Jerry Kramer, not Ron Kramer at 1.04.

So THIS is what it would have been like if the internet exsisted in the 50's!

Yep, the Packers had it made in the shade after that crazy draft. I bet some Ram fans were frosted and wanted to give their owner the knuckle sandwhich after that one. That was one hip post daddy-o!

Great post JohnnyU.

Brown's value was reduced by 'character issues'. Owners were scared of his 'attitude' in a black man of that day. My Rams and the others got exactly what they deserved.

Draft history has it going like this

Looks like they are the ones who have it wrong. SEveral sites agree with what you have.

Paul Hornung HB Notre Dame Green Bay Packers

Don Bosseler FB Miami (Fla.) Washington Redskins

John Brodie QB Stanford San Francisco 49ers

Len Dawson QB Purdue Pittsburgh Steelers

Bill Glass DE Baylor Detroit Lions

Jon Arnett HB USC Los Angeles Rams

Clarence Peaks FB Michigan State Philadelphia Eagles

Jerry Tubbs LB Oklahoma Chicago Cardinals

Del Shofner OE Baylor Los Angeles Rams

Earl Leggett DT Louisiana State Chicago Bears

Ron Kramer OE Michigan Green Bay Packers

Jim Parker OT Ohio State Baltimore Colts

Jim Brown FB Syracuse Cleveland Browns

I don't see how Ron Kramer would be considered a home run. As for Hornung, he's pretty clearly the worst modern HOFer, and wasn't anywhere near as good as Jim Brown. Hornung was a versatile dude, but he wasn't anything like Jim Brown. Hornung made the HOF on charisma and his college days, and only made the HOF on his 15th try, IIRC.

You're right, Ron Kramer isn't a home run. I was thinking of Jerry Kramer. Hornung was perfect for the Packer Sweep.

Not sure what the Niners were thinking. I mean, Tittle's no Ed Brown, but he's still one of the better passers in the league and at 30 he should have a few decent years left. What do you gain by taking another QB third overall? Besides a split lockerroom, that is.

Chase - while it's rough to pass up Jim Brown, don't you think most teams would be happy getting a HOFer (even "the worst modern HOFer") with the #1 overall pick?
