Fitz..poised for a breakout? (1 Viewer)

Ok, so last week maybe Fitzgerald was shut down by Nnamdi, so maybe you can excuse the lack of targets. Maybe Fitz is still hurting. We know Anderson's accuracy is hurting. It even looks like Anderson and Fitz are squabbling. There's not anything to draw coverage away from him and Beanie's still hurting, so noone respects the run either.

But...without a shutdown guy on Fitz, playing from behind, with Breaston and Doucet out...how can Fitz not get 20+ targets this week?

20 Anderson targets is really only like 10 catchable targets though. But Hey, I'm on board

LOL at the subtitle (I like that). This just goes to show how situation can drastically affect even the best FF players.

And I really don't think it'll get much better this season. Hall is not the answer, IMO. Yeah, he's smart & scrappy, but he doesn't have the tools to be a big improvement on Anderson. He's also a rookie.

I do like Skelton a lot. Big-time upside. However, he's fairly raw (& a rookie). He could be their guy in 2011, though (if not a desperation starter later this season).

The best news is that his knee is reportedly back close to 100%. For most Fitz owners, myself included, we drafted him to be a WR1 so what choice is there but to roll him out there every week and hope for the best?

I sure could use that breakout game we've all been waiting for

Was offered Fitz for Bradshaw and I turned it down. I countered with Bradshaw for Jennings.

Amazing how far Fitz's stock has dropped due to Anderson.

A wr is no good if the QB can't get the ball into his hands. I'm really suprised so many people are surprised at how this is turning out considering how bad Anderson looked in the preseason coupled with Fitz coming off a knee injury with virtually zero TC time. I'd probably trade for Fitz if i could get him for a song but I'd have expectations of him being a 12-17 WR with some potential very good weeks based on his talent alone.

I was going to bench him this week in one league but have a bye week to cover. If he's ever going to break out with Anderson throwing to him it has to be soon.

So Fitz's stats after 3 games this year are 12/152/2

After 3 games last year he had 17/181/2

After 3 games in 2007 he had 15/192/0

Seems to me he finished with pretty good number both of those years. He's not yet 100% from his knee and he just faced one of the 2-3 best corners in the game. He's had a ton of targets and he's found the endzone twice. My thoughts on him haven't changed a bit, I never expected 100/1400/10 this year, but I think 80/1100+/10+ is still reachable. The guy is too talented not to put up stats when healthy. Moss, TO, Steve Smith, (and yes Braylon Edwards with this very same Anderson), are all guys that have put up top 5-10 numbers with mediocre QBs throwing to them. I'm not ready to jump ship with Fitz just yet.

 I think you make some good points - he hasn't blown up yet, and his catch % is pretty awful so far, but it's not like he's killing teams with his performance. I think with his knee getting healthy and more time with Anderson as the season goes on that Fitz will start to be more valuable.

a great wr can make an avg qb look great (see calvin johnson 2 yrs ago with kitna, etc).

fitz will get his.

Excellent post to place things in perspective, especially the part about what I like to call the "Jake Delhomme" effect (the point that WRs can have great FF seasons with mediocre QBs).

That was a career year for him but even in that year he had a handful of games with similar stat lines as this past weekend. Great talents make it happen. It wouldn't hurt if he had a better QB but he should still be good. Now, if we could just get everyone in here to vote Kurt Warner off Dancing with the Stars, maybe we could lure him back in...
