Fitzgerald v. Hall (1 Viewer)

Should be a marquis matchup of young studs.

Both were Big East rivals. Fitz was a freshman in 2002-03 season, where he caught 3 td passes v. the Hokies in Blacksburg.

As a sophomore, Fitz caught 8 passes and a 2nd half TD in the 2003-04 season match up in Heinz Field. In that game, Hall was suspended for the first half.

I can't find if Hall matched up v. Fitz in the college games or not.

This will be their first matchup in the NFL. Should be fun to watch. Atlanta defense has yet to give up a passing TD this season, and the Cardinals passing game is looking to rebound after the controversy this week.

I watched Fitz last year when the Cards came to Indy. My perception is that the only thing stopping him from a HOF career are QB play and injury. This guy is an absolute beast.

I liken him to Mike Irvan.

As good as Deangelo Hall is, he cannot grow 6" overnight. That gives a huge advantage to Fitz in ANY matchup.

I know most of this is obvious, but when someone asks who wins, then they haven't seen this kid play in person!

Looks like Brees was throwing to Horn last week when he was covered by Hall, and he was usually open.

Anyway, since when is Hall an elite CB?

Horn only had 3 catches. The Falcons have a very conservative defense and give up a lot underneath. The corners are almost always playing off.

2005
He had a nice season in 2005. I'd go so far as to call it an extremely good season. About as good as Chad Woodson in 2003, or Fred Smoot and Charles Tillman in 2004, and not quite on the level of Lito Sheppard in 2004. Do you see where I'm going with this?I think Hall is overrated. There are a lot of above average CBs who, for some reason or another, catch fire and have a ridiculous season. The number of CBs who are consistantly great from one season to the next is much, much, much smaller. Basically, you've got Champ Bailey, Ronde Barber, Chris McAllister, Ty Law until two years ago, Al Harris, maybe Shawn Springs, maybe one or two others. There's a list of nice young CBs who are potentially primed to add their names to that list, and while Hall is on that list, I don't think he's at the top of it (I'd put Terrence Newman at the top of the list).

Yeah I know he had only a few catches, but he was target a few times where the ball was uncatchable when Hall was covering him. But after I read the second sentence of your post, I agree. Hall was giving Horn the underneath and sideline cut routes. I'm backtracking I know, but it's not something I've thought about. Maybe I'm a bit too critical of Hall.
