Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (5 Viewers)

I got a delicious sandwich for lunch. cost was a few cents under $10.

didn't come with fries, chips, or a drink (or any peanuts) so it must have been a huge ripoff (but it was delicious).
After 59 pages I was hoping that you would have begun to grasp the whole value concept.

Guess we have more work to do in here.
when I get similar quality food for a similar price everywhere else in my area, I'm not sure how it's such a horrible value (for me) but please enlighten me.

Did I&O invent value too?
If you think that is what I said then you need more help than I thought.

I believe you said I need help learning the concept of value. Obviously you can get cheaper burgers in California, so how do I take that information and use it to inform my lunch decisions in Chicago?

Rude, did your sandwich joint have a sentry to alert the co-workers that you were going through their door?
it's a big market with lots of different food vendors, so no. I think they figured things out when I stopped in front of their cash register and made eye contact with the person taking orders.

I am in San Francisco for work so becasue of the tip here I went to Umami burger. Had the Royale which was the truffle burger with short rib on top. Burger didn't come with fries so I ordered sweet potato Fries and a drink.

Royale burger = $15

Sweet Fries = $4

Drink = $3

With tax and tip it was about $28.

Burger was good but was way over priced for the size. I was still hungry when I left.

And no I am not a big fatty before someone accuses me.

Did you have to tell the kids they won't be going to college?

How many people have eaten fast food bc of this thread in the last two weeks?
despite preferring ino to 5g, was going to give 5g another shot last night. daughter was not in the mood for burgers and we hit up a cheesesteak shop instead.
Charlie's?
actually called "The Cheesesteak Shop." it is a small chain that started in SF. We used to go to the original one in HS in the 80's.... very good. i have been to several of the chains, but they just aren't as good. while i am happy to have one nearby, i acknowledge that it may not be the best cheesesteak i am going to have.

Cheesesteaks as a whole are over rated but if they use Amorosos bread, you're getting as close to the real deal as you would here in Philly.Eta: please tell me they give you the option of Wiz and wit?

sure, but it sucks that you had to burn the annual dividends on 1 meal that you couldn't even share.

Wiz/wit = you're a good man and you know what's up.

I've had them everywhere, if you want the best (IMO) hit the Little Hut Sandwich Shop in Ridley Park.

to be honest...i strongly dislike yellow/orange american cheese and velveeta, so i stay away from anything that resembles it. not sure if it is an option...not on my radar. now..if i were to visit philly, i would give it a shot.

80% of the cheesesteaks by me are melted cheese slices... Meh - a cheesesteak is supposed to be wiz

It is but there's no shortage of people going with provolone in Philly. It's really good with provolone.

I actually grew up getting it with Swiss and A1. But yeah, Wiz is the standard

I'd be interested in provolone... Majority around here come with a clump of melted American cheese, which I'm not a fan of on my cheesesteaks

Go to Philly every summer for a work reunion/trip. Definitely wiz. Without. And cheese fries. Yum.

Shorty's is pretty good. And wiz is disgusting - provolone, always provolone.

So it's supposed to be disgusting? Got it.
Just to clarify, you're saying a Philly cheesesteak with wiz is disgusting?ETA: that's what it looks like you're saying, but I've never heard this in my life, so I want to make sure.

WHEY, CANOLA OIL, MILK, MILK PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, MALTODEXTRIN , SODIUM PHOSPHATE, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, SALT, LACTIC ACID, SODIUM ALGINATE, MUSTARD FLOUR, WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE (VINEGAR, MOLASSES, CORN SYRUP, WATER, SALT, CARAMEL COLOR, GARLIC POWDER, SUGAR, SPICES, TAMARIND, NATURAL FLAVOR), SORBIC ACID AS A PRESERVATIVE, MILKFAT, CHEESE CULTURE, OLEORESIN PAPRIKA (COLOR), ANNATTO (COLOR), NATURAL FLAVOR, ENZYMES.

That's a science experiment, not a food.

Wiz.

I wouldn't know about Philly cheesesteaks because it is not humanly possible to get a good one outside of Philadelphia because of their special magic water* or something.

*Note this is apparently different magic water than the magic water they use in New York to make pizza and bagels. Must be something like Hogwarts vs. Durmstrang.
