Just got home from 5 guys burgers & fries, first time eating here. Had no idea a regular bacon cheeseburger (not the "little bacon cheeseburger") was a double, pleasant surprise. Got the regular size fries. Not a big guy, so this was a ton of food for me. At 14.70 for a double cheeseburger, medium fries, and a medium drink, it better be. Burger was good, but not the best I've ever had. Fries, well, it'd be nice if they cooked them next time.
Pfffft, this was an underwhelming experience. If comparing In-n-out to 5G, In-n-out by a country mile for my money.

So if I understand this correctly then the cheesesteak is so awful on its own that Cheese Whiz actually makes it better?
Sounds like a huge step below both NY and Chi style pizza for iconic city foods.

They actually said it once tonight when I was there. I giggled a little. The place was about half full. Boxes of peanuts that no one was eating. Double cheeseburger, small fry, and coke for $11. I don't know where you guys are paying $14 at. The burger was great. I felt happy. Bunch of #####es who hate 5Gs

I giggled because of this thread. I guess the price does fluctuate a little depending on where you are. I remember being at McDonald's in Tahoe and stuff was ridiculous.

I went to 5G on Friday - Bacon Burger, little fries, no drink, about 10.18 after tax. Downtown Phoenix. I had 2 peanuts and placed the shells in the garbage because I'm not a filthy animal. The wait was 10 minutes during a solid lunch rush and they would say "We got 3 in!" or whatever when people came in.
Burger was good, better than I&O. If I was walking for a burger and they were next door to each other, I'd pick 5Guys because I think the taste difference is worth the cost. If I was driving, I'd pick I&O because the taste difference isn't significant enough for me to park and go in. If I wasn't commuting and had the time, I'd go ahead and park, though, and hit up 5G.

Got some 5G over the weekend. More and more, I'm starting to think this is more an illusion than actually a great burger.
I normally get with a regular double and load up on the toppings. Of course, that wimpy little bun isn't made for that sort of treatment.
This weekend, I decided to go little bacon CB with minimal toppings. Just jalapeno and BBQ sauce. Good news is, it didn't disintegrate. Bad news is that the lack of the "wow factor" from a double bursting from the bun and too many toppings, the burger itself was revealed to be very ordinary. Decent flavor, but a dry, dinky little patty.
All those toppings, the fry overload, and the times you end up with a seemingly massive double by mistake lead to the cheerleader effect here with this burger.
Wimpy bun helps with the mirage as well ("this thing's falling apart so it must be a big juicy burger"
Simply an underwhelming burger that's still $6 by itself after tax ($5 if you want to drop the bacon). I could even see liking a far cheaper fast food burger more than this thing.

Well I got to thinking about it and I was being unfair. You really aren't supposed to cook burgers anything but medium here. Stupid law. But so many people pay no attention to it that it may as well no exist.

Is that why "steak places" like the Outback, Longhorn, Roadhouse chains only serve medium well and above for their burgers? Always thought it was weird I could get a steak MR but they wouldn't cook a burger less than MW.

As I recall there was a spate of food illnesses loosely associated with undercooked hamburger. I don't think it was restaurants as much as private folks. So some wieners in Raleigh decided to "fix" it. You know for the kids.What kind of difference does that make? Maybe if they only allowed steaks to the same temp, I could at least understand the law, but that makes no sense.

Even places that grind it themselves are forbidden. It's my understanding that at several of these places, they grind the steaks up for "steak burgers" like they do at S 'n S. I can get a MR sirloin there, but not a burger....just weird.Because ground beef is filled with weird other stuff.What kind of difference does that make?
