Foo Fighters are the greatest rock and roll band of all time (1 Viewer)

I've given it a few listens, and I like 4 songs...one more may grow on me, but there are a couple I really don't like at all. It doesn't really feel like a FF album, but given the fact that all the songs were influenced by the cities and the stories they heard, it makes sense that its way different than anything they've released. I see it as more of a concept/experiment than a regular album. Very cool idea, but I don't think anyone will ever say its one of their best albums.

I read something I found interesting...last year, guitarist Chris Shiflett posted a photo to his Instagram account that indicated 13 songs were being recorded for a new album (which became Sonic Highways), but we only got 8....hmmmm..I wonder if they have some songs ready for the next album already?

Saw this earlier tonight:

GROHL LOOKS AHEAD TO 9TH FOOS ALBUM

Dave Grohl says his plans for the next Foo Fighters album will make Sonic Highways look like "kindergarten."

Grohl says he already knows what he wants to do for album number nine.

He tells Studio Brussel: "Wait until you see what we're doing for the next record. That's some f####d up s###. I already know what we're doing for that, and it makes this look like f#####g kindergarten."

Grohl also promised the upcoming series of tours for Sonic Highways will make fans happy. He says: "As a live band, the audience is like the sixth member of the band. It's important for us that there's a connection with the audience. When you come see the Foo Fighters, we don't disappoint, I don't think."

Grohl on how they made Sonic Highways: "Im never f#####g doing it again! But I can imagine there are bands from all over the world who could do the same thing. Englands a great example of a country where each city has regional relevance. I think every country could have its own Sonic Highways."

Grohl is the ####### ####.

love Grohl interesting that he didnt pick Detroit as a city to do.

Plan on actually paying for this one on Friday
Here's a good read: http://m.fastcocreate.com/3037475/how-creative-discomfort-fueled-the-foo-fighters-latest-project-sonic-highways

Since news of the Sonic Highways series, produced by Therapy Content, became public Grohl says people have asked him about why he chose the places he did to visit. Like, why didnt they go to Detroit?

"You already know about Detroit and Motown", he says. "We made a decision to go to the places and tell the stories of the people that not everyone is familiar with. Steve Rosenthal has a little studio called Magic Shop. I think its the greatest studio in the world. The one we visited in New Orleans, it isnt even a studio; its a preservation jazz hall. So, you know, in picking the cities we also had to choose places that held some sort of personal connection or relevance, too. Chicago was the first place I ever saw a band play, I was inspired to become a musician here. Washington, D.C.--I grew up there and I wouldnt be the same musician if not for there; Seattle, I made music there".

Listened to the entire album today. by far, their worst effort. Still a great band, but just wasn't really impressed. :scared:

Personally saw Minny as the glaring omission.

Replacements/Westerberg, Huskers/Mould, Prince

This.Although a lot of their albums are half good, half forgettable.

I like 4 of the 8, so that's a pretty good ratio IMO.

Congregation is easily my favorite.

I've only listened to half of it but this is my fear based on what I've heard. Then again, it took several listens before I enjoyed anything on their last album too.

Foo albums never do it for me all the way through. Only one that has is the last one, Wasting Light.

As long as there are a few songs out there that will kick ### live, I'm happy with it. (Something From Nothing and Congregation stick out)

In Your Honor has that distinction for me.

I am a pretty big Foo Fighter fan. To give you an idea of my favorites from them so you know where my review is coming from:

1. Nothing Left To lose

2. Echos, Silence, Patience and Grace

3. One By One

4. Wasted Light

5. The Color And The Shape

6. Sonic Highways

7. Foo Fighters

8. In Your Honor

That 3rd album is what hooked me big time. I love when they have dynamic songs and the new record from track 5 through 8 really takes off. I do really like the first single now that I have listened to it a bunch (Something From Nothing) even though it has a massive rip off of the Holy Diver riff from Dio (LOL Dave wears his influences right on his sleeve no doubt but that is rock n roll everyone borrows from each other in the riff department).

Track Listing:

1. Something From Nothing - a really strong Foo's tune with their signature dynamics and a huge nod to Ronnie James Dio!!

2. The Feast And The Famine - A decent rocker but nothing amazing.

3. Congregation - I dig this tune and it is growing on me more and more.

4. What Did I Do?/God As My Witness - a nice little experimental tune for the band and another grower. Again dynamics are big in this song and it is a moody tune.

5. Outside - Now the album starts to hit it's stride. This is the Foo Fighters stuff I like. Intense, urgency, great arrangements and playing. Probably my favorite song on the album.

6. In The Clear - It continues to take flight with another strong tune...very One by One influence. I really enjoy this song and the groove is kick ###.

7. Subterranean - Another cool tune with a different direction for the band. Very dreamy, layered and well produced. The band is stretching out in the studio on this album. Love the guitar work.

8. I Am A River - They typically have strong closers (my favorite album closer will always be Come Back from One by One) and this one maybe on it's way to a top 3 Foo's closer for me personally. A really good song and very uplifting.

Overall 7/10. It's not near their best work, but I like when bands take chances and have some hit's on them. The Foo Fighters have at least 4 very strong songs out of the 8. But more importantly to me is there are no unlikable tunes like on previous releases (Wasted Light had a real stinker for me in White Limo and In Your Honor's first disc was really uneven and the second disc had some serious filler).

Again not near their best work, but far from the bottom. I am not a fan of the debut and In Your Honor. I never listen to those records.

I agree on many albums, but In Your Honor is great throughout both sides IMO. Agree Wasting Light is as well. Echos is close.

I find myself liking the songs on Sonic Highways much more after I see the HBO episode. I think its because you get the feel of how each song comes to be. I wasn't a huge fan of Outside until I watched the LA episode.

This album is growing on me pretty quickly.

Same here. Watching the show brings life to the songs.

I'm really enjoying the album but I'm more excited for the tour dates to be announced.

I saw them on the In Your Honor and Echos tours... been waiting for them to come back to FL since.. can't believe its been 7 years. I may catch two shows depending on where they play...I'd be down for a FL show and an Atlanta/New Orleans/Charlotte show. #RoadTrip

Big gap in dates from mid July to mid August... Maybe they'll add some shows but I had a feeling Atlanta would be the closest they'd come again.

And while I'd love to see them outside, I'm not sure of early Oct in Atlanta being good outdoor concert weather...plus it's a huge venue.. I may fly up to Nashville to visit a buddy that weekend and see them inside there instead.

LOVED the New Orleans episode...Been waiting for that one. Love everything about that city.

Thinking of doing the DC show/festival on July 4th. Anyone done the outdoor stadium thing with them before?

Tried to get tickets for Nashville at 10am when the internet presale started. Website took 7 minutes to give me "no matches". Sold out in like 5 minutes I guess.
