Food Republic Poll - Top 40 Sandwiches - BS Results (1 Viewer)

Cucumber Sandwich?  How stoned do you have to be to say "Hey, I'd could really go for some cucumber and unsalted butter on bread".

Rueben way down at 17 a travesty.  Easily a top 10 sandwich

Torta also really underrated at 25

Grilled cheese at #2?  Did they pole a bunch of 5 year old or something?

Egg ####### salad above chicken salad. A travesty egg salad even appears on the list

Roast beef got screwed at 26 and for the love of god where is chicken parm??

Thanksgiving sandwich? not a thing.

croques are rated too high.

fwiw- I'm a big fan of the breakfast sandwich... but at #1 too high.

veggie humus... I like both, but wouldn't rate it as a sandwich, especially with others still not in the top 40.

tea sandwich? shine yer shoes, guvnah? I don't live in a Dickens novel. out with the cucumber sandwich.

I'm cool with #1.  #15 is stupid/French and is a food atrocity.  #35 and 40 shouldn't exist.  #13 is too low, should be top 5.

Hey! It's a very English/Irish thing, i'm sure, but cucumber sandwiches are still my go-to summer lunch. From when i was ten, my mom used to put me on the subway with a bagful of em (easy mayo, lots of pepper, 10x as good when they set up a little) and 80 cents, 15 each way to Fenway & 50 cents for a bleacher seat. I'd pitch peanut bags to customers for the old vendor (who'd been train porter for all the original HOFers backinaday) on Brookline Ave in exchange for a bag of my own, go in for BP, a sammy @ gametime another at the stretch. Why yes, i did live in the 19th C, i think.

From then on, cuke sammies have been what i ate on a hot day - painting houses, to the beach, in the golfbag. Dont go out much anymore @ 147yo and put breakfast sausage on my cuke sammies now (one of the 400 reasons i'm over 300lb), but still find them very refreshing.

I grew up poor and wouldn't eat cucumber sandwiches.  We ate mustard sandwiches though.

mustard sandwich >>>> cucumber sandwich

Because put together to make a sandwich, you end up with pretty terrible sandwich.
Hot Brown is on the list and that cucumber butter monstrosity.  So open face is cool.  How many ingredients make a sammich?

Not sure what is worse: the list or the people here attacking grilled cheese.
It's always the people that are worst. Always.

Grilled cheese should be number 1. So ####### good.
Think the issue many have with the choice of Grilled Cheese as #2 is the cheese. The picture looks like American Cheese, which is not proper for this sandwich. Something like Pepper Jack is much better than Plain Old Ordinary American.

Also where is cheeseburger?   If Patty melt and fried chicken on a bun are on there it qualifies and should be #1 with a bullet IMO

The descriptions are laughable. Italian sub: "cured meats".  Gyro: "grilled meat". Italian beef : "roast beef".

Top 40 is kind of silly. May have to come up with a top ten though.

Love grilled cheeses any way you make em - greezyvelveeta, cardboard bread, even cold & 3dayold. But i made one once because Nigella Lawson - i woulda made bologna&whipcream on flipflop sandwiches if she told me to - said it was the best ever: doublethick crusty bread, grated Guyere and Vidalia onion tossed together then stacked lightly but high, grilled long & slow. And she was right - couldnt get my tongue back in my mouth for two days.

Top Ten:

10. Grilled Cuban
9. Lobster Roll
8. Shrimp Po Boy
7. Gyro
6. Grouper
5.  Italian Beef
4. Bacon/BLT
3. Rachel
2. Pulled Pork
1. Philly Cheese Steak

Grilled cheese wouldn't make my top 20.
