Ministry of Pain

I play in a league where we actually have to carry 3 QBs, and I already had Rodgers and Romo on that team/ What do I do with QB3? In that redraft I thought about taking Jason Campbell but the liklihood I would ever start him over the other 2 QBs is pretty slim.
Rather than take a 3rd starter I instead grabbed a guy that should he see the field could actually pay off huge. I am talking about Matt Leinart. Now before you roll your eyes hear me out. The odds of Warner making it the whole season are slim. While Leinart struggles at times he has the best 2 weapons at WR in the NFL at his disposal. There is no reason even if he throws some picks that he isn't a candidate to toss 250-300 yds and at least 1-2 TDs a game should he see the field.
We are taking about a late round flyer and if the Kurt Warner owner is too stupid to take him, you should jump on him. I might even grab Leinart if you only carry 2 QBs...in that type of league you can always grab a guy off the WW for the bye week when your starter is out. Especially if you have a top5 type QB who you are going to start all the time.
The same theory about guys with upside at the Rb and WR spots, same theory here. What back up QBs have tons of upside should they see the field? Not that many. Leinart could end up being one of those sneaky picks that ends up paying huge dividends during the season. Trade bait alone when Warner goes down should be enough to make you at least look at this situation a bit.

But seriously, you bring up something I agree with and a see a lot of otherwise savvy owners ignore. You play to win the game. Not to finish a respectable 3rd. Why waste draft picks and roster spots on guys that you will never be happy about starting? As an example, in a recent draft of mine I watched a skilled fantasy owner take Bobby Engram in the next last round of our draft. Why? I think he'll have an okay season but the odds of him being even a solid fantasy starter in KC are pretty slim. Why not take a flier on Nicks, Matt Jones, D. Butler or Britt? Someone who has potential to be someone you'd love to start, not just someone you start due to no better options. Leinart is a good example of that kind of player this season.
I have Warner and Leinart is basically my #2 QB. I drafted Shaun Hill late because Zona has their bye in week 4 so after that it's the Warner and Leinart show until Warner gets hurt.
One of my all time favorite coach moments.
