For those that carry 3 QBs. (1 Viewer)

I play in a league where we actually have to carry 3 QBs, and I already had Rodgers and Romo on that team/ What do I do with QB3? In that redraft I thought about taking Jason Campbell but the liklihood I would ever start him over the other 2 QBs is pretty slim.

Rather than take a 3rd starter I instead grabbed a guy that should he see the field could actually pay off huge. I am talking about Matt Leinart. Now before you roll your eyes hear me out. The odds of Warner making it the whole season are slim. While Leinart struggles at times he has the best 2 weapons at WR in the NFL at his disposal. There is no reason even if he throws some picks that he isn't a candidate to toss 250-300 yds and at least 1-2 TDs a game should he see the field.

We are taking about a late round flyer and if the Kurt Warner owner is too stupid to take him, you should jump on him. I might even grab Leinart if you only carry 2 QBs...in that type of league you can always grab a guy off the WW for the bye week when your starter is out. Especially if you have a top5 type QB who you are going to start all the time.

The same theory about guys with upside at the Rb and WR spots, same theory here. What back up QBs have tons of upside should they see the field? Not that many. Leinart could end up being one of those sneaky picks that ends up paying huge dividends during the season. Trade bait alone when Warner goes down should be enough to make you at least look at this situation a bit.

I did just that. Had Brees and Rodgers, so I didn't think a third QB was important early.
Not to get too off track here, but I would be moving Rodgers or Brees...you should get a nice ransom for either of them and improve the overall quality of your team. If you get a chance, post your team over in the Coach's forum, I'd like to see the rest of the roster. Every league has different rules so I don't know how your scoring works but Rodger snad Brees is overkill if you can only start 1...still better they ride your bench i guess than startign for someone else.

Actually, I'm saving that move for if I have a major injury. We do a "best score" league, so having two good QB's is important. We also keep 7, and Brees was my keeper at QB. Traded Cutler and Boldin for Rodgers in the off-season. I'll go to Coaches Forum and post my team. Give me a couple of minutes.

I am talking about Matt Leinart.
Please stop talking about Matt Leinart. I'm trying to free up a roster spot to stash him on my bench for all the reasons you mentioned and too many of my league mates read this forum. :)But seriously, you bring up something I agree with and a see a lot of otherwise savvy owners ignore. You play to win the game. Not to finish a respectable 3rd. Why waste draft picks and roster spots on guys that you will never be happy about starting? As an example, in a recent draft of mine I watched a skilled fantasy owner take Bobby Engram in the next last round of our draft. Why? I think he'll have an okay season but the odds of him being even a solid fantasy starter in KC are pretty slim. Why not take a flier on Nicks, Matt Jones, D. Butler or Britt? Someone who has potential to be someone you'd love to start, not just someone you start due to no better options. Leinart is a good example of that kind of player this season.

MOP - I always like your postings and insight - very valuable stuff each and every time.

I actually picked up Leinart right after the draft on waivers - because I think you are right on target - worst case - he never starts this year - but what backup in the league that is in a high-powered pass offense can we say would put up startable, dare I say top 10 startable stats?

Indy - No

New Orleans - No

Green Bay - No

Arizona - YES....

I'm not sure this would qualify as a revolutionary thought.

Many aren't fans of Leinart but given his playoff schedule, high powered offense, and brittleness of the stating QB he is a fairly obvious choice for QB3 on a team. Only problem with your strategy is that the guy that grabbed Warner for QB1 would be a fool not to grab Leinart as his QB2, well before your draft your QB3, and then some buy week filled at the end of the draft for his QB3.

 I have Warner and Leinart is basically my #2 QB. I drafted Shaun Hill late because Zona has their bye in week 4 so after that it's the Warner and Leinart show until Warner gets hurt.

Not to get off track, but another AZ player to get as early as possible is Breaston. He's the clear back-up to either Fitz or Boldin, and proved last year that he can put up good numbers with either of those two hurt. I have Fitzgerald and made sur ethat I got Breaston, too.

Leinart's the easy call.

Whoever was left standing as Brady's back-up should get a look, too, for those in really deep leagues looking to roster a deep sleeper.

It's not like Cassel was an all-world talent.

I understand Avery, but not everyone that comes into the SP is actually a shark like you...some are still in training and learning to make some more advanced moves on their leagues. In my local beer draft league, the Warner owner didn't draft Leinart, didn't even occur to him to grab ML, and a lot of people think Leinart is garbage and even if he enters the game that he will do poorly. I wasn't starting a revolution, just wanted to shine a spotlight on a play that some might either gloss over or actually hadn't thought about much.

As a Warner owner I have two back ups, Orton and Flacco. I am considering dropping one of those guys for Leinart but I kind of want to see how Orton and Flacco play first before pulling the trigger. Campbell is on waivers but I haven't seen enough of him to want to drop the other two guys.

I would fire Orton. You are gong to be happy you own Flacco.

Who would I be firing Orton for? Campbell or Lienhart?

Even if you think Warner will miss games, if that doesn't happen until Week 12 or something it gets tough pretty quick to justify the deadweight of Leinart as QB3 if your bench is only 5 or 6 players.
