For those who disliked Theismann on MNF (1 Viewer)

You had to love Jimmy Kimmel's burn on him a few minutes ago. When the Indians/BoSox game ended, Tirico said, "We'd like to welcome those who just watched the Cleveland/Boston playoff game." Moments later, Kimmel said, "We'd also like to welcome Joe Theismann who is fuming on his couch."

There was dead silence by the others.

Meanwhile, those of us, who hated having to listen to Theismann on MNF last year, laughed.

 :lmao:

Especially because Jaworski has been so entertaining. Theisman was no good, but the broadcast is no better without him. That trio in the booth with Kimmel was one of the most awkward 5 mins of a broadcast I have ever watched. They had no idea what to say to the guy. None.

That's probably because there's no reason to have a talk show host be in the booth during an NFL broadcast. Unless he happens to be involved in a talk show that's part of the ABC/ESPN family, of course...BTW, as I heard on a Sports Guy podcast, Kimmel was flown in specifically for this interview. As probably some piece of his contract, he had to appear at either this game or last week's. It's not like he just happened to be at the game so they brought him in. This is a forced, prearranged bit and they still can't make it not suck.

That whole exchange was high comedy. I usually don't care for segments like that, but Kimmel knew how to play it. And, to the rest of the crew's credit, they sort of piled on, as well.Kornheiser: "I thought it was Jaws who got him fired."

Agreed. I guess even the producers realize how boring the broadcast is. Trying to do something to spice it up the last couple years.Feels like a swing and a miss though. Tirico is a solid announcer, but he doesn't have that "it" factor for MNF. None of these three do. Jaworski is a solid x's and o's guy breaking down tape, but he's not a great color guy. Not quite sure what Tony is supposed to be... Dennis Miller was better than this guy in the booth, if thats possible.

It's a football game. I don't know why there is always so much network focus on the topic of the announcers and how entertaining they are. On Sunday afternoon you get whatever schmuck you get, and you watch the game and don't think about it. So what if it's not the Jay Leno Show in a booth? They should let fans watch the game and not worry about whether the announcers make us all giddy. Who cares.

Did anyone else think that Kimmel had a few beforehand?
I wouldn'tbe surprised if he had the munchies as well. He was a little, off, tonight.
Damn...I must've watched a different segment. I thought it was hilarious. The fact that the rest of the guys actually played around with the Theismann bit for a while made it better. Wasn't awkward to me at all. But, again, maybe I was watching some other segment that you guys saw.

I came here to post that I thought Kimmel had a few pops too. I hate Theisman but I think Kimmel was overly toolish.
