Have actually been watching this the last couple of weeks. Other than a few cringe moments like the roommate's name season 1, amazing how well it holds up after so many years. Also amazing how from the pilot episode it was already in its prime, no time to find itself needed.

Thats what I thought too. Pretty sure theyre from the 70s (or earlier). The hamburgler jail tower thing was my fave as a small child.

It was Mayor McCheese that you would climb up inside and had the jail like bars around it. In the mid 80s we drove out west for summer vacation, the McDonald's we stopped at for lunch had the head of Mayor McCheese sitting out by the dumpster (in the process of redoing their playplace) and we tried to convince my dad that we should strap that thing to the top of the minivan and take it home with us. For some reason he did not agree with this idea.
