Game of Thrones on HBO: non-book thread (1 Viewer)

I think the actress playing Sansa is only 16 (and is playing essentially a 12-13 year old), so that may be the reason people aren't commenting there. But yeah, the cast is amazing. I can't really think of somone I thought was bad. In most shows when characters die off or fade from the main story, it is tough to keep people interested but Thrones keeps churning out amazing new characters each season. Year 1 we lose Ned, pompous Targaryan, King Robert, Arya's dancing master and Drogo. No big deal, here comes the faceless assasin guy, Ygritte, Stannis/Davos/Melissandre, Theon's sister, Loras Tyrell's sister, Brienne, etc. Hell, Tywin Lannister didn't even appear untill the last couple episodes of S1. They just churn out great character after great character.

I've mentioned before that she may turn out to be the hottest when she grows up a little more. She's playing a 15-16 year old. They aged everyone a little from the books to smooth out the sexual situations. I'd like to see her doing a little Jabba barge Princess Leia cosplay next Feb.

I have never read the books, but the character on the show was awesome. They could make a great Mortal Kombat/Street Fighter type video game from this show. Imagine some of the fighters: the Mountain, the Hound, Syrio, Jaqen, Barriston Selmy, Jamie, Drogo, a giant, a White Walker, Melissandre, Bronn, Khaleesi and her dragon powers, Jon and his wolf, the possibilities are endless really. If this was 1994, it would be amazing.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to imply you were wrong. The actress that plays her is a beautiful young woman. I feel like we are living in a real renaissance for red-headed women. Sansa, Ygritte, Christina Hendricks, Emma Stone, Isla Fisher.

True, I still like the show version too. He got short changed a bit in comparison to the book, but a great character on the show none the less.

I heard an interview (on cnn.com) with the producers. They had to add some years to the younger characters and tone down a few scenes to comply with UK decency laws.

That scene in season 2 never happened in the book. The walkers attacked the fist, the top of that hill that was in season 2 where Sam finds the obsidian blades. About 50 or so of the crows make it off the fist and get away using the torches to fend off the walkers. Season 3 essentially picks up there.

They took it easy on Dinklage. They basically say as much with his line to Cersei about his nose not being hacked off as rumored. Probably the right way to go otherwise Dinklage going to be wearing a green sock on his nose throughout shooting.

Yeah, Tyrion's pain and disfigurements are completely gone with the mostly charming Dinklage. The self effacing attitude doesn't mean as much from a guy whose eyes are mismatched, is missing a nose and waddles like a drunken Willow on mismatched legs. Sansa is pretty spot on. She did a great job of transforming from gilded princess wannabe to battered wife-to-be living in hell. Her character isn't as likeable, even in an evil way, but she may be the best performance and most true to the books as any.

From what I can tell is that 1 person asked if the opening scene was explained in the book. He should have asked in the other thread. Besides that exchange, there are a lot of book comments not related to that question. Nobody asked how Tyrion was in the book or whether the faceless assasin guy was better in the books or not.

I don't want this to be a book question, but it might come off that way. Are the people north of the wall there by migration, or were they there before the wall went up?

Good question. Up until this last episode I assumed that "the king beyond the wall" and the White Walkers were king of on the same team. I'm not sure how they got some many people (or giants) that live up there.

I understand where you guys are coming from, but at the same time talking about what happened in books 1 or 2 reveals nothing - no spoilers. I am trying to stay away from anything but the books, but I have only read through book 4. There is 0 change I or anybody who hasn't read all 5 books is going in there because after 100pgs there is no way you can look around without seeing stuff that happens in the next book. I didn't think there was a need for a 3rd thread on Game of Thrones for those that are watching the show, but haven't read all the books.

I am trying to stay away from anything but the books, but I have only read through book 4. That's what spoiler tags are for. Posting stuff like Tyrion's nose was chopped off in the book during the battle of Blackwater may not be a spoiler but it has ZERO bearing on those of us who only watch the show. I really dont care about that because it didnt happen on the show. In my world, Tyrion got his face slashed leaving a nasty scar. Telling me otherwise is just a waste of breath.

 
I enjoy hearing some of the differences between the show and book as long as it's not a spoiler. I think most people have been careful not to cross the line. I actually read both threads but I'm usually not that upset if something gets given away on TV shows, unless it's major.

A. Someone should add a no spoiler note in the thread title.

B. Not seeing how discussion of differences between book and screen not involving spoilers would detract from the overall experience of watching the show? If you don't care pass on by. But whatever I shall take my observations else wheres.

 
For whatever it's worth... while reading a book on the Borgias I noticed that Joffrey Borgia married a Sancia, or Sancha, of the Kingdom of Aragon, it was a political marriage based around claiming the throne of Naples and the boy Joffrey's parentage was often mentioned. I thought the similarities interesting.

 
What if I just bought the books yesterday and haven't read any of them? Can I post here the color of each books cover or is that a spoiler?
