Game of Thrones on HBO: non-book thread (1 Viewer)

This is the TV-only thread. Please don't mention the books, speculation about what might be different from the books, or characters that you feel are getting either more or less airtime than you expected based on their portrayal in the books. All of this would be considered potential spoilers, and that's kind of the whole point of the existence of this thread. Thank you in advance.
I understand where you guys are coming from, but at the same time talking about what happened in books 1 or 2 reveals nothing - no spoilers. I am trying to stay away from anything but the books, but I have only read through book 4. There is 0 change I or anybody who hasn't read all 5 books is going in there because after 100pgs there is no way you can look around without seeing stuff that happens in the next book. I didn't think there was a need for a 3rd thread on Game of Thrones for those that are watching the show, but haven't read all the books.
That's what spoiler tags are for. Posting stuff like Tyrion's nose was chopped off in the book during the battle of Blackwater may not be a spoiler but it has ZERO bearing on those of us who only watch the show. I really dont care about that because it didnt happen on the show. In my world, Tyrion got his face slashed leaving a nasty scar. Telling me otherwise is just a waste of breath.
It's related to Cersei saying she heard his nose got chopped off though.
yeah, to me that's an interesting tidbit to learn.
I guess my complaint was moreso how it was mentioned in this thread

They took it easy on Dinklage. They basically say as much with his line to Cersei about his nose not being hacked off as rumored. Probably the right way to go otherwise Dinklage going to be wearing a green sock on his nose throughout shooting.
It wasnt mentioned really as an interesting tidbit but moreso as a matter of fact like we should all know that.

I don't want this to be a book question, but it might come off that way. Are the people north of the wall there by migration, or were they there before the wall went up?
There's a scene in the first season where Tyrion is talking to someone from the night's watch (Yoren, I think?) and he says something like "the only difference between us and the wildlings is that, when the wall went up our ancestors happened to be on the right side".

Seems the most common critique from the tv pros out there that do this for a living was the dragons did not look good enough. Odd.

Also, I would think that whatever happened with the zombie army and the night's watch will be explained better in a future episode, maybe one where Sam has a scene lasting longer than 30 seconds.

There's another scene in season 2 between Jon and Ygritte where they basically say the same thing - he's descended from the first men just like her or something like that and she responds with why are you trying to kill us then or something like that.

Yes. I can't imagine anyone voluntarily migrating north of the wall. It's a dangerous icy hell.

It might be a dangerous icy hell, but at least you can refuse to bow before any proud lords you want without the rains weeping o'er your halls.

They looked fine to me. As others have pointed out it was the actor's interaction with them that I thought was weak.

I think they did a disservice in that final scene in Season Two....as it doesn't jibe with what the Old Bear said in Season Three. As it is, the only sense I make of it is that The Old Bears question was rhetorical as he knew that Sam wasn't there to man the ravens. It would make a bit more sense though if Sam was out there at the end of Season Two looking for dragonglass instead of doing his job (manning the ravens).

#1 - they are free and bow to no king#2 - if you are running from the law and don't want to join the Night's Watch
1. The free cities would be a better destination if you want to avoid kings. Get a tan, spend your gold on hookers and spiced locusts.

2. Become a sellsword in the free cities or a pirate. No need to freeze your balls off and run from wights, wargs and the Others. F that S.

Good luck getting all the way to that camp by yourself...you only have to survive brutal blizzard conditions, Rangers looking to catch and hang you, a 200 foot high defended ice wall, a zombie army, Wildling patrols, and a survival by incest, baby sacrificing psycho.

When you catch yourself thinking, "If people don't like seeing any references to the books at all, they can go start their own damn thread!" — keep in mind that they already did, and this is it.

The other thread is the main Game of Thrones thread. This one is a very small, dorky thread with an extremely limited purpose: to discuss the TV show without any mention of the books. If you don't agree with the purpose of this thread, please skip over it and stick to the main thread.

Seems silly to flip out when the actors' portrayals were being discussed just because the books were mentioned. Plus, until very recently, the thread title didn't reflect that hissy fits were thrown whenever the books were mentioned, even when no spoilers were given. Seems myopically silly.

Agreed. So please stick to the non-silly thread.
Plus, until very recently, the thread title didn't reflect that...
It was in the thread's subtitle until those went away.
Correct, which is why I made sure there were no spoilers in what I wrote because I didn't know which one this was. Still very silly to react so strongly to non spoiler book mentions. We should start a show only, spoilers ok thread to go with the 3 other GoT specific threads.

How about you just not talk about the books? It's annoying. Why is this difficult?

hey a comment here or there, no big deal. But the last two pages were littered with comments about the book.

The point isn't to cry about it, it's to point out that he flipped out on a post that only had in it what he said he didn't mind.

Solid points. I'm not saying those are the best options or only options one could take, just possilbe reasons.

How about those dragons, huh? Getting big!
I thought they had a pretty big growth spurt between s2 & s3.
If you notice, at the begining of Season 2 the dragons were not eating and Dany was worried about it/them. It took a while for Dany to learn they only would eat meat once it was charred, and she then learned the valryian word that commands them to breathe fire (how the dragons know this word, I do not know). So shortly before the dragons were taken, they had started to eat (and grow). They were sure to show us this season that they had learned to hunt/fish and char their meat on their own. Hence the growth spurt.

:lmao: Not sure how this became the "non-book" thread. Since I started thread asking about something I didn't see in the books.

Seems like those white walkers are up to something.
Funny you should say that, because in the books they capture Jon Snow and turn him into an Other, but somehow his Tragaryan half has dragon blood and it cured him. However he still had the powers of the White Walkers and could control them, essentially becoming the new King beyond the wall. He then uses them to enslave the Giants and their mammoths to use to drive the ironmen from the North.

Also I have only read to the book for this season and made up everything above.

Was curious what people thought about tonight's episode, but I can't find the thread.

Did I totally miss the gay love affair between Loras and Renly while reading the books?
Post one says MT can pound sand and cry.

Shuke, the founding father of this thread, clearly had the original intent of discussing both the books and the show in this thread, as well as the homosexual romance between Loras and Renly.

This is the intent of this thread. Anyone not discussing the homosexual romances in Game of Thrones (either book or movie) is violating the intent of this thread. There is another thread for this show, go discuss it there.

So, did you guys see the look Loras snuck at Joffery? He might be jealous that his sister is getting to ride the lion instead of him. In the books they never hook up, but maybe it'll happen in the show. The downside is Loras can't shave Joffery's chest as he is clearly hairless.

Your post wasnt the only one on that page nor the only one i commented on.
Cool story bro. It was the one you replied to when you went hissy, over something you apparently care zero about.
:lmao: And now youre going into a hissy fit since I cursed once. Seriously, relax dude
Say what? Wouldn't I have to be acting like a 5th grader or doing something other than camly discussing it to be having a hissy? You know, like cursing or wailing about getting out of a thread or childish taunts. Stuff that, you know, you were doing. Your choice of "I know you are but what am I" tactics is pretty telling.

The other downside is imagining those two together. :X
