I'm enjoying the show and look forward to it each week but before this season began there were critics and others who have read the books that were saying this season would blow the previous two away. We're now 6 episodes in with 4 remaining and while it's been good, I don't think it's been far and away better than the first two seasons. The storylines progress so slowly.

Episode 4 was epic imo, but after that I would agree 100% with you.

I am ready for #### to hit the fan

Again, as a non book reader I see some writing on the wall that they are consolidating the storylines a bit.

-Dany - She's basically done this season. She's geographically too far away to do anything at this point and has uber powers with her. At most a brief cameo check in.

-Sansa - Basically done. Might tie off the wedding scene with tears and be done with it. Nothing more to see.

-Cersi - Same. She's neutralized.

-Littlefinger and no littlefinger - seems they are also done for the season. One is on a boat and the other has no real role in this season.

-Theon - He's tied up and not going anywhere. Can't see this progressing very far.

-Kingslayer - He's unlikely to be much of a factor either.

That leaves

-Rob vs. Castlerly Rock battle?

-Snow goes basejumping then ???? goes to winterfell? What's their gameplan?

-Bran meets up with Snow at the wall???

-Arya and her crew

-Red witch takes the ******* back to ???

Should if nothing else have more action to wrap up the last 4 imo

Yeah, I love reading the predictions. Ref had some good ones last week. On one hand it's fun to look at them and think, like poor Sansa, all the dreams and plans they predict are going to sail away. But in another way it shows what people who don't know what's coming are interpreting the story. Even for book readers, this season is doing a phenomenal job of being surprising and captivating, with a lot of little tidbits being thrown in for us to savor almost like a private joke, but it's still fantastic filmmaking in and of itself so I am never bored and even scenes in which I know what's coming are flat out awesome. This, imo, is the best season by far and that awe should continue every week as all the setup time is rewarded with bombastic happenings.

I'm mostly commenting on the content to expect in the next 4 episodes. I realize these characters are far from done in the storyline.

I made the mistake of looking at a wiki page while trying to learn who is who in this show and saw a few spoilers that I wish I hadn't seen. I know what's coming for a couple characters this season and next...and I have to believe it is going to be amazing television.

They may do things in bulk, like have 2 or 3 directors in Malta and rip through 3-4 episodes worth of stuff with the respective directors splitting the duties. And remember that a director can do more than one episode (not sure if they are this season, but pretty sure there are). Plus there are 2nd unit directors and stunt directors and such who do small portions. I'm sure though that for pretty much most "normal" scripted scenes, the listed director is there.

The main guys, sometimes called executive directors or something similar set the look and tone for the series. Sometimes these guys do several episodes a season, sometimes not, but there is a set of stylistic guidelines that all the guest directors have to abide by. On top of that there's usually the same Director of Photography who is going to keep things along the same type of look and the same editor. Both of those positions have a lot of influence on the look and feel of the show and they are beholden to the execs/creators, not the guest directors, so they help keep things in line with the guidelines. Bottom line though, there are usually no hard and steadfast rules to the interrelation of all the positions. Some directors have more leeway, some DPs are more powerful, some directors are little more than figureheads or are easily manipulated by the actor or DP etc... Most of my experience comes in regular TV series where there are 20-24 episodes, not 10-12. There is a lot more wiggle room with who gets to direct in those, more influence by some directors who have multiple episodes but yet aren't part of the exec creative team, and one-off filler episodes that aren't necessarily canon to the story arc and are easily identifiable as stylistically different. In a short seasoned show, there's little room for fluff though so they're either going to be constrained or they're actually going to be the setters of the look anyway.

Oh I realize that and that's entertaining. Knowing if what you and others think does indeed happen or not is fun. I know if I had not read the books I would be right there with many of these conjectures.It's kind of like if you had watched all of Lost and then sat with someone watching it for the first time. Then they tell you what they think will happen next.

Most serial shows are written without any plan of what's going to happen after the first season, and in many cases are created with a hook that is only designed to last one season. The rest is typically made up as they go, and is constantly changing for contract reasons. Then within each season you have different writers and different directors for each episode that have probably never sat down in the same room as each other and talked about any kind of coherent ongoing plotline they intend to push towards.

It's no wonder so many shows fall apart so quickly after one or two strong early seasons. It's like taking a thread from the FFA where every poster contributes the next paragraph and turning it into a novel.

It's nice that GoT is based on a book series so at least the general plotline is laid out.

If you go to a site called "Tower of The Hand", it will allow you to set a "scope" using which books you've read and seasons you have watched. Once it's set, the site will not give you any information beyond that scope. You can easily tweak your scope whenever you want. It's probably not foolproof but better than rolling the dice on a wiki.

I also think Tywin has pushed too hard and will not survive the season. Sersei or Tyrion (or both) will plot against him.

Not true at all. Most directors aren't involved in the future plotlines of the show unless they are already part of the creative team. Plus there are a lot of preproduction meetings where everyone involved is there to go over the episode line by line and get everything settled before actually shooting. That's why there's more than one director for a season, so that when one episode is shooting the next director is prepping the next one. A lot of times nowadays on these shorter seasoned shows, a director will prep 2 or 3 ahead of time and shoot them consecutively. Looks like this is happening for GoT with McLaren doing he next 2 and someone else doing the following 2. McLaren has had several episodes the last 2 seasons at least and did ep 1 and 2 this season iirc.

She knew all the Bastards looked like Robert. (dark hair, big, etc) Joffrey doesn't. Wanted to crush all suspicion.

Plus I'm sure she's not thrilled about all the walking reminders of her joke of a marriage.

Grand Maester Pycell gave Ned the lineage book that Jon was borrowing when he died.

She really is making Jon look like a little #####. I fully expect that storyline to end with Jon stuck in a hut somewhere, cleaning the kitchen and taking care of a litter of ginger babies while Ygritte is out hunting and killing dinner.

Don't you think that there may be a reason for them? If you like the show and think they're doing a good job, then just try and accept that they feel it's important enough to "waste" screentime on.

I am still waiting.... as I have been since the start of season 2.... for Tywin to #####slap Joffery, or to at least try. He keeps breaking everyones chops that they cant control him and yet they are never on screen together and he is the on location Hand of the King.

One other thing... it's obvious Aria wants the Hound Dead... why didnt he tell her about the fact that he save her sisters ### a few times?

I know the story isn't perfect but they have pigeons and it seems like Littlefinger/Veras know everything about everybody in days... you telling me Tywin can't drop a line and tell his grandson to stop being a #######.

Again, as a non book reader I see some writing on the wall that they are consolidating the storylines a bit. -Dany - She's basically done this season. She's geographically too far away to do anything at this point and has uber powers with her. At most a brief cameo check in.-Sansa - Basically done. Might tie off the wedding scene with tears and be done with it. Nothing more to see.-Cersi - Same. She's neutralized.-Littlefinger and no littlefinger - seems they are also done for the season. One is on a boat and the other has no real role in this season.-Theon - He's tied up and not going anywhere. Can't see this progressing very far. -Kingslayer - He's unlikely to be much of a factor either. That leaves -Rob vs. Castlerly Rock battle?-Snow goes basejumping then ???? goes to winterfell? What's their gameplan?-Bran meets up with Snow at the wall???-Arya and her crew-Red witch takes the ******* back to ??? Should if nothing else have more action to wrap up the last 4 imo

Yeah, I love reading the predictions. Ref had some good ones last week. On one hand it's fun to look at them and think, like poor Sansa, all the dreams and plans they predict are going to sail away. But in another way it shows what people who don't know what's coming are interpreting the story. Even for book readers, this season is doing a phenomenal job of being surprising and captivating, with a lot of little tidbits being thrown in for us to savor almost like a private joke, but it's still fantastic filmmaking in and of itself so I am never bored and even scenes in which I know what's coming are flat out awesome. This, imo, is the best season by far and that awe should continue every week as all the setup time is rewarded with bombastic happenings.

After the dracarys scene/speech in the town square, nobody is gonna tell me Dany isn't an excellent actress. She spoke gibberish while trading a dragon for an army of castrated, often nipple-less soldiers, and nailed it

Also, not trying to be a jerk about it but it feels like some can't wait to divulge what's about to or not about to happen. Even saying things like "from reading the books, things are about to get crazy this episode" is something of a giveaway. There should be almost no need for spoilers in here because as far as this thread goes, the books don't exist. There is a separate thread to discuss the books

This season is getting real interesting, but am I alone if being completely confused and annoyed at all the Theon scenes? Every episode its just more nothing out of that storyline, by now if they are showing him so much at least tell us something on who this captor is. Also could care for a little less of the Bran and his friends, pretty much nothing changed from the second they met those other kids, lots of screentime spent on them when we could have had more Tyrion or even Joffrey.

After thinking about it, others are correct in stating that there are clues as to who this is. Things have been said or seen in passing in the show that point to who this is, or you can at least figure out the family/area he is from: Who was heading towards Winterfell? What was he doing to Theon's finger? Have you seen the thing Theon is tied to before? There are clues to who he is, but so far they have kept his motivation for torturing Theon a mystery.
