Other episodes in season 2 were more disjointed, but I don't know if any of it was as embarrassing as the Theon Penthouse Letter scene.

It was the S3 version of the Littlefinger lesbian practice scene.

That scene made my wife quit watching the show.

Weird, I loved both scenes. I guess just different artistic tastes.

I liked the last episode. The Theon scenes continue to be perplexing. They are really hammering us with his torture, I hope it pays off at some point. Other than that, I enjoyed most of the scenes. Dany was a complete badass. Tywin-Joffrey was hilarious. So nice to see someone shut that twerp up. Also, how are people hating on Jaime? He is absolutely stealing this season. At this point, he is the hero of the show which is almost unfathomable after S1.

I think he gets a lot of love. He's in the elite upper tier of characters/actors of the cast and is usually well lauded. His material isn't as fun inherently as Tyrion's slef deprecating sarcasm or Bronn's pragmatic wit, but Dance does a phenomenal job of giving a stiff, dry character a lot of life and menace. He stared down the next Mad King and without raising his voice and basically agreeing with the King, he cowed into stuttering submission. I think Tywin is one of th favored character.

Tywin is awesome. I don't think he has has a bad scene yet. Maybe even a better ratio of hit to scene than Tyrion. The Lannisters in general are just amazing TV.

Again, as a non book reader I see some writing on the wall that they are consolidating the storylines a bit. -Dany - She's basically done this season. She's geographically too far away to do anything at this point and has uber powers with her. At most a brief cameo check in.-Sansa - Basically done. That could be said about the entire series. GRR sat down with the producers and outlined the remainder of the series so they know how it will all end. This is to ensure the showrunners don't inadvertently screw something important up and know which characters to focus on.

For quality sustaining cable TV you need a central narrative. Many seem to be coming from the perspective of the book reader that knows what is coming so they will wait it out.

Put yourself in the perspective of the non book reader. At the end of season 2 you had Tywin replacing Tyrion as the main power behind the throne Rob was marching on KL and the dragons were unleashed. Then on the side you have Arya going home, Kingslayer going home, and Snow going south. All of these were in motion at the end of S2.

Fast-forward to now and you have next to no movement in ANY of these plotlines. Dany has an army of nippleless P90X graduates roughly 4 seasons away from doing anything in KL and the rest has just been pawns moving around.

I'm mostly just messing with you. Most people seem to think last weeks ep was a big dropoff but look at it this way: you've been told (and should know by the first two seasons) that a lot of #### will go down after all this setup. Now, what was going to happen in 4 eps will happen in 3. That makes the last three even more interesting. I can almost guarantee that after the finale, which even book readers have no real idea what it'll be, you'll be clamoring for more. Maybe these setup eps are more entertaining for book readers because we see how the pieces are lining up and there are plenty of nods to the 'in the know' audience that make them very entertaining. Up until this last ep, the last 4 or 5 were riveting and the best of the whole series for me. There are a lot of characters, the whole land is in chaos, the book is split in twain, so there are a lot of irons in the fire that need to be set up just so. They're doing a great job and they're going iff source material, so it's not like they're creating these meandering storylines, they're in the books and necessary. This is a massive epic book series, so the series needs to try and relay that. The whole idea of quitting the show because of a slow ep, when you know the furious pace the final eps of previous seasons have been is pretty silly.

I am a non-book reader (duh) and I kind of agree, for a TV show there are wayyyyyyy too many characters being introduced in season 3 and it is tending to bog things down a bit. Ill give them the benefit of the doubt to right the ship however.

You play chess? First you set up your defenses and set up your offense. Then pieces start meeting and styles start. You've got Wildlungs coming south, Walkers heading to the Wall, Dany about to crush an entire city, a bunch of marriages between powerful families that don't like each other, a little ball of rage who's starting to hate everyone on all sides and is obsessed with death, Robb gaining an army and heading to Casterly... All these pieces have been set and along the way Robb, Arya, Thoros and Melisandre and Rhlor (the god of light), Tywin, Joffrey, Jon and Ygritte, the Wildlings, LF vs Varys, singly and their battle if subterfuge, and even Bran and Thein have all had massive character development while the world they live in has been fleshed out immensely. As soon as these opposition forces start touching each other, anything can and probably will happen. With all that's set up so far, how can non book readers not be giddy at the possibilities? The first two seasons have shown that they leave little doubt as to why we should keep watching. I just don't get the complaints or threats to stop watching. When has the last few eps failed to please?

Those seasons were not about those characters, maybe that is just what you liked/focused on. If there is any main thread this year, it would probably be a couple characters struggling with who they are/redemption. I think mostly the season is "about" Jamie and Jon and their internal struggles. I don't think this season is any more spread out than last year. If anything, maybe it is more up and down. We follow what a lot of people feel were 2 of the stronger shows of the series with two of the weaker. Still, a subpar episode gives us great scenes with tywin, tyrion, bronn, and the queen of thrones and is better than 95% of what is on TV. Really don't understand where you are coming from.

Maybe your expectations were a bit unrealistic?

I can't imagnie the story playing out any differently than it has. Granted, I have read the books. But, where did you THINK they would go?

Robb isn't in a position to march on Kings Landing. Once Stannis was defeated, the Tyrell's joined the Lannisters, and the Greyjoys once agains rose up in the North, those hopes were dashed.

The Lannisters are taking stock and regrouping. Reforming alliances, ect. What did you expect on their end?

Arya is still going home. But, didn't you expect a story to go along with the journey?

Jamie is still going home. Same.

And John snow is still going south. Same.

Granted all of those things are still in the processes of unfolding, but isn't the Journey the interesting part? In the vast majority of stories, isn't half the fun the "getting there" rather than the "got there" part?

I really don't get it.

Agree that Season 2 had a ton more "lulls" than this season. But, the peaks weren't as intense either.

This is really no different from the books. Continuous introduction of new characters and subplots.

I just don't see how people are enjoying this season. Season 1 was about Ned so you saw that plotline advance weekly. Last year was about Tyrion and that plot advanced. This one is just so spread out and lacks focus. I get it that there are a billion characters you still have to pick one and run out the string with it.

This season just seems like a soap opera with a little S&M thrown in on the side for no apparent reason.

Huh? Season 1 was also about Dany becoming the mother of dragons and the entire Stark family. Season 2 was also about Joffrey & Cersei's rise to power and Stannis trying to overtake Kings Landing. Season 3 is about Jamie's possible return and John Snow.

I stand by the bolded and think it holds up without the "was also". The wire was a great series because each season they wove the side characters over one large arch. 10 years later you can remember what each of the 5 seasons were about and there wasn't any "was also" thrown in. For quality sustaining cable TV you need a central narrative. Many seem to be coming from the perspective of the book reader that knows what is coming so they will wait it out. Put yourself in the perspective of the non book reader. At the end of season 2 you had Tywin replacing Tyrion as the main power behind the throne Rob was marching on KL and the dragons were unleashed. Then on the side you have Arya going home, Kingslayer going home, and Snow going south. All of these were in motion at the end of S2. Fast-forward to now and you have next to no movement in ANY of these plotlines. Dany has an army of nippleless P90X graduates roughly 4 seasons away from doing anything in KL and the rest has just been pawns moving around.

Maybe your expectations were a bit unrealistic? I can't imagnie the story playing out any differently than it has. Granted, I have read the books. But, where did you THINK they would go? Robb isn't in a position to march on Kings Landing. Once Stannis was defeated, the Tyrell's joined the Lannisters, and the Greyjoys once agains rose up in the North, those hopes were dashed. The Lannisters are taking stock and regrouping. Reforming alliances, ect. What did you expect on their end? Arya is still going home. But, didn't you expect a story to go along with the journey?Jamie is still going home. Same.And John snow is still going south. Same. Granted all of those things are still in the processes of unfolding, but isn't the Journey the interesting part? In the vast majority of stories, isn't half the fun the "getting there" rather than the "got there" part? I really don't get it.

The journey is reflective if the books. He spends very little time on most battles but delves into the characters before and after. Blackwater being a big exception.

I am a non-book reader (duh) and I kind of agree, for a TV show there are wayyyyyyy too many characters being introduced in season 3 and it is tending to bog things down a bit. Ill give them the benefit of the doubt to right the ship however.

But thats what Im saying. Theres a difference between introducing a ton of new characters & subplots in a book vs a tv show.

The Odyssey - By Culdeus Chapter 1 Odysseus gets trapped on an Island by a chick.He escapes.He finds his way back home in a very efficient manner. He meets no one. He does nothing interesting while getting there. There is no discussion of any of the weird #### of the day, like Gods and weird stuff like monsters. Those things don't move the story along and get Odysseus home, after all. Chapters 2 through Chapter 53 Odysseus gets home, cooks dinner and fires up the Super Nintendo.
