I have several thoughts on issues under the main stories. My first:
First, Tyrion told Dany last week that a ruler who kills those devoted to her will have a hard time finding devoted followers. Dany's response to that was not to kill Jorah but to remove him from the city - basically, make the punishment awful to him, fairly in keeping with what she had promised though not completely, and she didn't kill a devoted follower showing the rest in the room that she understood that point and agreed that devotion is important.
This week, we have Stannis. He murders his devoted daughter in front of his men and he purposely removes from his ranks the second and probably only other person that was truly devoted to him and in Davos. The red witch is devoted to her god and the wife is a loon that until the moment the flames started was devoted to the Lord of Light. This will not inspire devotion from his men, and like I said, I would be happy to see it lead to a revolt from his men. And with Davos, he has to shed himself of Stannis once he finds out. Frankly, he should kill Stannis himself but I doubt he does - there are too many other characters that are standing in line to do that. So now Stannis should be in a position where his wife is broken and useless and could end up being a threat to him, the red witch contolling him now forever because at this point there is obviously nothing he won't do, his right hand man has to cast him aside and become an enemy and his men should despise him, in the middle of a winter where some have already left the camp. If he was a good king he would have thought that through and come up with an alternate like Dany did.
The Baratheons are now all but destroyed with this. Meanwhile the Starks for all the hell that family has been through continues to show that people are devoted to them because they are fair and just. Eddard is dead, Robb was brutally assassinated and their homes were taken by the most brutal dictator in the story and they still are devoted to the Starks and at least now to Sansa. Again, they are good leaders.
We know the Lannisters aren't - at least, not anymore with Tywin dead. And who knows what Littlefinger has up his sleeve at the Vayle but they seem loyal to the Starks at least underneath their story, short as it is. We are seeing what the good leaders do and the bad ones fail at. Not just in clear terms, like Joffrey, but the psychological stuff in the Stannis / Dany / Stark stories. Excellent story telling.
