Somehow, some Greyjoy will end up with their ships by Dany. Can't be a coincidence that her's get burned and their story comes back into the fold this season.

I agree that it is way above season 5. Seems they didn't know where they were going with much last season. I just don't find it quite as interesting as it was a couple seasons ago. I guess nothing has filled the void left behind from the loss of The Hound, Tywin, Oberyn and others for me.
I would say I wasn't as excited as some of the folks above. I agree on Ramsay and Dany, you sort of feel like they are key characters down the road so they continue to get screen time, but I don't enjoy seeing them that much. They aren't my favorites or even close anymore, Ramsay due to them beating us over the head at how ruthless and evil he is and Dany due to feeling like she is basically back at square 1 after Kal Drago died.Come on. There were some cool moments for sure - mainly Sansa and Jon meeting up. I didn't think that would happen so soon, and that was fantastic. Like somebody else said, I am just done with Ramsey. To me he is just one note and uninteresting at this point. And I get that we are supposed to be distracted by Dany's boobies, but she is still doing the same #### she was doing at the end of season one - comes out of a burning building and has Dothraki following her. 'cept now she doesn't have dragons and she is still no closer to having ships.
There is still a lot of praise for the show every week, so maybe I am in the minority. I still dig it, but am getting pretty tired of a few story lines. Do you guys think that it has dipped a bit, but still better than most shows? Or do you think that it has maintained it's greatness from what I would consider it's peak of Seasons 3 and 4?

I agree Dany's story has kind of gotten a little stagnant but I don't know how people couldn't have loved that final scene. And I'm not just referring to Emilia's bewbs - which are still quite nice. That was the moment we've been waiting for. Dany taking hold of power again. Now I'm hoping this mean she heads back to Meereen, gathers her army and all her dragons and heads off to Westeros. But that was a kick-### final scene.
As far as Ramsay, he's an annoying little twit for sure and he needs to be off'd and I think his time will come. I think he'll find out it's not wise to piss off Jon Snow. I also really enjoy how for the first time Sansa is becoming a very strong character. Jon needed to man up and it was Sansa who kicked him in the balls. Those were some really good scenes between Kit Harrington and Sophie Turner who had never acted together on the show before.

Really find it hard to root for Dany's character at this point. She's basically spent the last 4 seasons making bad strategic decisions and now she gets a do-over with (presumably) nearly full grown dragons and a much larger force of Dothraki than she had before. And how did she do it? She made a big speech and pushed over a couple of charcoal BBQ grills....
It doesn't help that Clarke seems basically insufferable in real life every time you see her. Every time I see her interviewed, she comes off like she thinks she is the most interesting and charming actress in the world.

Was a lot of #####ing about plot and storyline development last year IIRC - overall this season I tend to agree with your sentiments, but last nights episode was generally great. As many have noted, HBO may have confused things slightly by naming this series "Game of Thrones", which is actually just the title of the first book in Martin's series. Martin's title, "Song of Ice and Fire" may give a more accurate picture.

Haha I was thinking the same thing, I assumed Jorah and Darrio doused it with oil or kerosene or whatever Essos equivalent existed.

When Sansa was rescued by Brienne it was kind of like "finally, something good for Sansa" but when she unites with Jon it was a different level. Then it hit me, this is the first time since watching Ned beheaded that Sansa has seen another family member.

They were very nice. I was thinking body double because she has come out and said no more showing us her gear but apparently that was her in all her glory.

And I seem to be the only one that realizes that this is a huge plus for team Dany. Her army basically was down to the Second Sons and the Unsullied. As has been shown- that is basically enough to either keep Mereen or take another city and let Mereen go back to the Masters. As discussed before, if they sailed to Westeros, she had enough to maybe take King's Landing but that would be it. She just took control of not just a Dothraki horde but basically ALL the Dothraki hordes. Each of those guys that got burned to a crisp were Khal's. She has a huge Army now. This opens up a lot more possibilities for her in as much as how she moves forward.

Same here. Then I wondered if, instead, we are to assume that Dany has some power to manipulate fire. She was very confident in her plan.

Anyone who thought the show would lose its way without having the books as source material to draw from was out of their flippin minds.
Of course it's possible Martin laid all this out in advance to the writers but even still this season has been very good so far and is setting the stage to be seriously awesome as usual. Just the Snow-Ramsay battle could be epic and now we finally (hopefully) have Dany ready to suit up which should make things really fun.

A wood structure that is lit by cauldrons burning some sort of oil (most likely for Dothraki it would be an animal fat, likely horses, processed to burn) which is spilled all over. Not sure why that is surprising it would go up like that.

I agree, but I'm afraid with Tyrion and Varys in Mereen we'll be heading back there for some more snoozy Daenarys episodes before we really get any forward movement.

Not sure if there was dirt floor there which would be possible being the Dothraki are nomadic peoples but this is a permanent building and maybe since it is kind of a hall of Kings meant to be nicer. I remember the shots showing the fire going over the floor being wood but I wasn't paying that close attention to them. Even so, again, having the cauldrons lit would mean some form of oil which would burn right on dirt and spread as well.

If Tyrion was able to broker a truce with the Sons of the Harpy that would seem to prevent any type of impediment keeping Dany from moving out of Meereen. Also, the show is down to a limited number of episodes. At some point she has to get to Westeros. So logically it just makes sense for her storyline to begin to pickup some pace. At least I hope that will happen now. It would be a real waste of an epic moment like we had last night.

Yeah, we get that it is a huge plus for Dany. Doesn't mean we haven't seen it before. Now she has to get back her dragons - again, get a fleet of ships - again, convince a horde of Dothraki to cross the water they are so afraid of - again.

I don't know about that. The entire army just saw her march through fire unscathed, and submitted to her rule. I don't think she will have to do much convincing re: sailing to Westeros. Finding the ships, yes.

The offing of Osha was obvious and disappointing.
I thought it was pretty strongly implied that what Dany asked for help with was throwing gas on the floor and barring the door. There's no way she risks that move without knowing for sure the place was going to light up like a Christmas tree.

I hate to be too negative, but the way that the writers handled this came across as pretty lazy. She basically knocked down some VERY unsteady fires in a cabin in the middle of a desert.
At least put in the time and effort to let me know that she'd planned this out more. I don't need much -- maybe a McGuiver-like or A-Team type montage of her prepping the building for the trap. Show that they thought through some angles; figured out weaknesses in the plan and adjusted. Something.
Other than that I love the show. And I can't wait to see a little Wildling-on-giantwoman loving.
