Game of Thrones, tv only, books don't exist, no backstory...NERDS already ruining a series that hasn't started (9 Viewers)

Remember that awesome scene in season 2 episode 3 where tyrion tells each of the small council members a different version of who he is going to marry marcella to?
He tells varys he's going to wed her to theon, ans varys keeps the secret.
He tells pizzelle that she's marrying the dornish dink. Pizzelle tells cersei and she flips out. So he does send her off to dorn. Which kicks off the sand snake war and eventually kills her.
He tells littlefinger he's going to marry her to robin aaron in the vale and offers him heron hall to broker the marriage. Littlefinger doesn't trust him after janus slint got heron hall for a week then got sent to tge wall. But he goes, woos her instead, and takes the vale and heron hall for himself.

You are correct sir. Tyrion originally suggested it, and littlefinger was wary of taking a cursed castle, but it was tywin who independently gave littlefinger both haren hall and an arranged marriage with lady aaron of the vale

It isn't an easy compulsion to jump to if you don't read heroes or anything about the books. There isn't much of that back story covered at all in scenes of the show.

I think the director giving you a close up of the baby's face and then a close up of older Jon Snow face is all the conclusion you need to jump to.

That's usually the case but they pushed back the start of filming from July to September to be able to get more wintry scenes.

GOT book readers are well-familiar with delays. A few months is really a completely negligible delay in the SOIAF world.

Tyrion lives like a few blocks from me, see him at least once every other week with his wife.
Today he was walking his dog with her and they were on a side street with nobody around, so I said something. I'm not a celebrity stalker, autograph seeker, or picture asker - I don't need to annoy these people, but nobody was around as I was walking by:
I said huge fan, my favorite character in the show - hope you seize control of the 7 kingdoms to finish the show. He smiles, says thanks, gives a wink and says you'll have to watch.
That was basically the entire interaction, I said have a nice day and he says you too with a smile and wave - nice guy.

cool story- and seems like a nice response to what he must get daily. and like we're not going to watch.
funny- I was googling some friends from college... their band... and found some articles from way back in the day about shows they did in wburgh (before wburgh was wburgh) at some crazy performance space and the article mentioned dinklage doing something there on the same night. this is more than 25 years ago- so the guy must have some deep brooklyn roots.

Yea, I mean he was standing there waiting for his dog to ####, so the timing was good. If I was like hey man, give me mother of dragons phone number, what happens next season dude! kinda stuff would be annoying.
A quick 15-20 second interaction like that comes with the territory of being on a hit show, can't imagine that being too annoying. All time and place. Ethan Hawke was sitting down at a table next to me at this pizza place Sottocassa a few months back with friends and/or family - Training Day is a movie I really like, but I didn't say anything, that would be infringing on his meal.

totally- I think we're the same with this stuff... especially living/working here where you see them all the time. I don't have any desire to talk to a random stranger 999/1000 times- celebrity or otherwise.
only time I bum-rushed somebody, it was my long time favorite musician at the starbucks in soho... I was a ####### idiot- like a 6yo girl with heart pounding, sweat dripping down the brow, dry mouth trying to get out the words. he couldn't have been nicer, but took me a sentence or two to realize I'd rushed him with his kids at the table.
oh- also was in line at jetblue security at JFK, switchbacking back and forth so you'd go by the same people regularly... jeffrey wright was in line ahead of me and I had just rewatched his brilliant turn in basquiat (and had also fell for his acting seeing him on stage doing Angels in America). about the 3rd time passing him I had basically the same conversation you had with dinklage, exit-strategy made easy by nature of being in a moving line.

I just finished the last book and sadly have come to find that it will probably the last Martin writes. I've never been so disappointed in an author as I am with this schmuck.

I agree. I gave up on the books probably two years ago. He's frustrating. Always time for cons and football, never time to finish his master work. To be honest, I don't think he's going to finish it ever. The show is the story as far as I'm concerned. No way he goes back and writes different angles with the detail and intricacy of the first books. As I've said before, nobody gives a #### about the kid at the inn who just might be another ******* when you know the Dragons win.

Yeah, I still have the opposite take. I have eased up on the hopes of getting more books, but I haven't loved what they have done with some of the stories/characters in the show so as soon as they say Book 6 is out I (and I am sure many others) will be flocking to read it. I am watching the show b/c that is all the story we have, but if we had the choice of book vs. show I would still take the books.
I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't have things wrapping up slightly differently for characters and have those details we love. I mean, we used to take our time with the story and 2 seasons = one big book (book 3) THAT is when the show was epic as well. Now what is supposedly the story for the last 2 books is getting crammed into 14 episodes?

I agree. I loved the books. Even the stuff in Dorne (blood oranges plopping around the garden) and the Reek stuff, it was fantastic. I would take the books 10 times out of 10 vs the show.
Unfortunately the nerd became the popular kid here. And he left his fellow nerds behind. He ain't coming back.

I guess Sopranos started this trend of splitting the final season up? I don't understand why it's gotten so popular. Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc... what's the point?

Because for 70% of the production cost, you get two bites at "season premiere... SECOND TO LAST SEASON!!!..... season finale... THE LAST ONE BEFORE OUR FINAL SEASON..." and THEN you get to do it all overagain for the final season.

Have to think of it as one season broken up. Therefore, I think this season coming up will start slowly as they set the stage.....they'll have a kick ### finale and then the last season will be balls to the wall.

I don't know if they'd stoop to that....although ( I think I said it here)....you got The Hound, Arya, The Red Woman and The Brotherhood Of Banners all heading towards each other on the map.
I think you'll get moderate doses of Sam, The Sand Snakes and The Iron Born Uncle as speed bumps early on. There will probably be one too many Brand visions or scenarios that will bog it down, Davos will probably have to go somewhere....and that will waste time.......And there will be some sort of "misunderstanding" in the North that will cause them to drag their feet and waste time while everyone watching will be screaming "IDIOTS...THE WHITE WALKERS ARE COMING".
NOTE: I'm not speaking from ANY knowledge of the plot via spoilers or book lore....as the books are well behind and I'm as much in the dark as the rest of you jabrones.

Yeah, personally I think it would suck if they turned GoT into the Walking Dead for the last 6-7 episodes and just had it humans vs. walkers.

Good grief, when you put it that way, it's going to be a chore to wrap all that stuff up in a satisfying way with 13 episodes. It will be interesting.
