Game of Thrones, tv only, books don't exist, no backstory...NERDS already ruining a series that hasn't started (2 Viewers)

Jorah's death made me sad. :(

The depleted man power of the north will make it tough vs the south, but Danny still has 1 of her dragons (or did 2 survive), and that could still be the equalizer.
I really connected with Daenerys' emotions in Jorah's death scene. One of her best acted sequences from my standpoint.

Deep Thoughts:

I always try to remind myself that this is still Epic Fantasy even if GRRM is known for being gritty.

Same as LoTR, things happen not to be real - rather they happen sorta like a parable...a mystery play - of ancient Greece.

The meaning is not literal - in the large sense - it is representing a greater moral plane existence.

My opinion.

Yeah I mean way more main characters should have died. I am supposed to believe Sam fought off non-stop zombie attacks that whole time and survived? One armed Jaime backed against a wall vs 10000 zombies for 20 minutes? That’s a stretch.
The main characters lived, but they have no army

Just a few thoughts.

1) The Arya kill shot kicked ###.

2) Lady Mormont was a bad ### to the end

3) Umm...why not light up the army of the dead with the dragons before sending out the Unsullied? NK's girl Elsa and her blizzard attack I guess.

4) Theon and crew defending Bran with arrows seems dumb. You have a horde coming at you. Takes to long to reload and then you run out of ammo.

5) Bran's warging and seemingly doing nothing was dumb. Maybe if we saw him clearing the way for Arya somehow. Could be a flashback I guess.

6) I half expected some sort of twist where NK looked at Bran, Bran's eyes turned blue, and then he knelt before Bran who is the real NK.

7) As other's said, not many major deaths was surprising.

😎The fact that there is at Max a few dozen people left alive makes a turn to the South to fight Cersei seem a bit ludicrous.

9) It really was way too dark.

10) It was a pretty amazing spectacle though.

I have a suspicion that the dividing line between the:

TOO DARKKK!!

vs.

Nah - I could see fine!

...is gonna be drawn along age lines.

I put my chair 4 feet from my 45" & just barely made it out - but I did like the effect.

You younger folk prolly don't get it yet - OH LOOKOUT - it'll come....

Thought the same...either Romeo Juliet style, or in an all out attack
I took the look as an honest love connection between them after them joking about him being the best man to her, probably due to their acceptance of impending death as they decide to go fight.  So maybe sort of suicide by white Walker?

I took her look as, "If you want me, you have to fight for me".

Anyone see any Children of the Forest during the battle?

Pretty sure the last ones died as Bran fled during the Hold the Door episode. They're extinct I bet. The only holdovers were protecting the Three Eyed Raven until the time came to help destroy their creation.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the Weirwood tree at Winterfell is the last one in existence. Don't remember if there are any others in the North but the ones beyond the wall must be all gone now, and I think the Children's powers waned as the trees became less common.

Theory on Reddit that bran sent out the Ravens as time travellers.  Or something.  So past bran could see this happen. Sort of like when Biff got the Almanac

There are more trees.

When everything looked lost I also expected Bran to wake up before the battle had even started and alert everyone to some key strategy that would help them win that he had seen in the future.

Me too.

Plus, I thought that the ravens would be explained in this episode - once they took off.

I expect they will be eventually, but...who knows...

The Mormont killing the giant was major fan service. Even though we’ve never seen her fight anyone and there’s no reason for this zombie giant to do anything but step on her, he of course takes his time to kill her slowly and she kills this bad ### giant.
Did Lady Mormont strike you as someone who would not spend the time to train for battle every chance she got?

There's a few others, but I know i am in the minority- this episode didn't do a ton for me.  There were some great scenes- loved the opening attack and the oh #### moment when the screamers hit the zombie wall, but after that it was a cheesy action movie.   Only secondary characters bite it, last second out of the blue heroics, dark blurry scenes with no sense of position, and seemingly the last 1/3 of the episode in slo mo.

I get other's love, but this isn't what made me fall in love with the show.
:goodposting:  Was expecting more and was certainly expecting more main character death. So much for my Red Witch theory too, wtf was that?

i’ll post more later but was kinda let down by this. I have even greater disdain for GRRM tonight and I didn’t think that was possible.

Would be a lot more profitable it he completely changes everything.
Very interesting thought.

I had not gone there, myself.

Hmmm - a totally changed finish, would satisfy the long devoted book crowd - I suspect.

But what about the new TV fan base?

1) Are they now larger than the ol'timey book crew?

2) And, if so, do they want totally different, or just a deeper look into things?

I ain't got the answers, but I do believe that at least some of the "beyond the books" write'n & plot'n was supplied by George, so, I don't think he would do a 180.

Personally, I would love it if things were totally different. Not because I don't like the show, but - man - it would be great to have two stories on this. Kinda like a multiverse following a different time/history line.

I like it.

Yeah - it is hard to gather from the series, but one of the things that really separated Bear Island and the Mormonts from the rest of mainland Westeros - was the fact that all of the females were fighters - just like the men.

So - yeah - she has been training just like Jon has from the very get go.

When the NK walked out of the dragon fire I wondered if he was originally Targaryen.  Maybe something the books will get into. Someday. Maybe.

I guess maybe she was simply burnt out, pun intended. Like Luke in Star Wars.
This was my initial thought - and still is.

She died because she removed her necklace and became a pruny old hag again, like the lady in Room 237 in the Shining.
However, this intrigues me. We knew she was not gonna make it out alive from the beginning - she said so.

Now, if this necklace loss was the only factor - and she did it voluntarily, then what does that say about the remaining role of The Red God?

Is he/she now out of the game - since Ice (NK & Co) has been defeated?

And what does that say about Jon & his resurrection? Maybe, he still has a role to play as a rep of the Red God, but since he is alive, no more Red Priest(ess) are needed here.

I dunno - good to think about tho.

As much as I admire the folks who created this masterpiece, I’m also happy to (hopefully) put the whole zombie thing behind me for the last three episodes. I’ve always loved the game of thrones part of the story rather than the magic part - the kings and queens, knights, armies, thrones, politics, war of the roses part. I can handle the dragons, prophecies, and the faceless men to a degree, but have never taken to the zombies and the Lord of Light stuff (bring people back from the dead, smoke babies, and (in the books) Lady Stoneheart.). Although the NK is/was obviously a big part of the plot, he’s actually featured in very few episodes on the show, so I think it makes sense to end his plot line now with 3 full episodes to go. I wouldn’t be interested in a show primarily about zombies and magical beings.

With this backdrop, I’ve got to admit I have very little confidence these guys are going to do justice in these last three episodes. I really hope they prove me wrong. I have the feeling tonight was their magnum opus. I really don’t care how Cersei dies, or if she dies at all. This story has always been about the Starks and Lannisters. That’s the story I’m interested in and I hope they give it a great ending.
