Game Thread: 49ers at Packers (1 Viewer)

I really don't understand this gAme plan on D by SF. They are only rushing 3 and giving Rogers all day to pick them apart. Clearly he is too good for this approach. At the very least get a few DBs up at the LOS and disrupt the timing of their routes because clearly, your rush isn't going to. I think the Pack tie this.

The old prevent D. A time tested failure.

Shhhh, they're luring Rodgers to sleep. Big sack there too

Not sure many are realizing what an accomplishment it has been to hold aldon and especially Justin Smith at bay today. It's been impressive.

San Francisco is impressive. Nice win. Can't wait to read the over reaction from the Green Bay fans. The sky is not falling. San Francisco might well be the best team in the NFC.

Crazy how when they got back to playing real D they top them cold.

Good game Niners, I didn't think they would walk in and win today. I thought Green Bay would be hungry.

Nice opening week statement game, very balanced on offense, defense made some great plays, big days ahead for the Niners. They look like they can get back to the NFCC.

30-15, Rodgers had 197 yards, 1 td 1 int. Smith 196 yards, 2 tds. But Rodgers got too pad his stats so he's a better QB

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:ETA: Rodgers is the better QB because he threw for more yards, duh.

Yep.Agree 100%
Indeed. The Pack will still be in the hunt. But the defense still struggled in coverage and on the edge, and the offensive line had trouble protecting Rodgers when it mattered most. Tough loss to a good team.

SF looks very good. I'm not totally sold just yet but they are my favorite for the SB. Their WR play was much improved vs last year. Then again that could just have been how bad the Pack D is. Either way, no team in the NFC, perhaps the NFL, can match the physicality of that SF team.

Akers once again shows how much of an impact he is on the 49ers. When the kicker has that much impact, I wouldn't be so fast to start tooting the horn.

Rodgers hides just how bad the o-line is, not saying he played well but my goodness that line is terrible. I know how good SF d-line is this is not just an isolated case of Rodgers running for his life.

:goodposting: AGreed to a point.I don't think its overreaction to beat up this Packer D though. They were bad last year and it does not look like they figured much out this year.Offensively, no need to put on the worries at this point. For the most part the Oline played pretty well.

Anybody make sense of this post yet?
Score 30-15Rodgers 197 yds, 1 TD, 1 INTSmith 196 yds, 2 TD, 0 INTRodgers is better because he threw against a prevent defense and puts up 400 yds against the scrubs of the NFL.Duh.
I'll let Pack fans rip this post a new one.

Sometimes winning the game is not losing the game. That INT was horrible.

Yeah...how about Smith against his own defense and let Rodgers pick apart our sieve of a D.

The guys on Football Night in America all said Smith outplayed Rogers.
I saw that. Smith was solid, but Rodgers carries that whole team. Smith doesn't carry the 49ers. Smith has shown he can't carry a lesser team. Right now, GB is the lesser team to SF. GB would be worse without Rodgers by a mile.

Sometimes a kicker can be big on the road too.

Pack would finish last in their division w/o Roger IMO. The guy is that important and good. That said, Smith couldn't have played much better. He missed a few throws/reads but everyone does. He was efficient and made plays when they were there. While Smith is nearly as important to his team as Rogers, he is still a major reason they won and are as good as they are.

I still don't think Smith is for real as a QB, not a true field general QB who can beat you with his arm. He is still hovering around average in his 8th season as a starting QB. QB's who are for real aren't hovering at average in their 8th season. That being said, again he was solid.

When the SF defense failed against NO last year, Smith sure looked really good when he HAD to make plays.

How many different coaches did he have in his first 7 seasons? The guy doesn't make costly mistakes. If Williams doesn't fumble twice (among other really unlucky plays), it is very possible the 49ers could have won the SB with him last year. He finally has a coach who believes in him and WRs to support him. Their team is not built like GB where Rodgers has to throw 400 yards a game to win, but when he had to against NO, he not only did once - he did it twice.

By "for real" do you mean "one of the better QBs in the game"? Because not many people think he is, including myself. But with the team around him now, he doesnt need to be....plus, this is one game, and the first game of the season in a place SF hasnt won since 1990. Lets get a few games into the season before we start analyzing his progress from last year.On a side note, I bet youre headstone is gonna have an Alex Smith bash chiseled into it. Let it go and enjoy the fact that the Niners are contenders again.
