Game Thread - NE @ NYJ (1 Viewer)

Maroney looks good so far, and it looks like they want to get him 15-20 touches, maybe a little more, with Morris getting a substantial amount of work as well. Not sure how that will change from week to week, but if I had to guess I'd say Maroney's going to have a substantially bigger role than Morris, mostly for his explosiveness, but Morris will get some work on first and second downs as well.

Nice job by the Jets special teams here after Cassel struggles with the snap.

The team that's looking really, really well coached in this game is...the Jets. Several outstanding offensive calls so far.

Jets putting together a very nice drive there. Excellent job converting third downs. This game does not seem like a tie ballgame right now, but sure enough it is and the Jets have momentum.

Maroney with back to back carries to start the drive, then a play fake to him and Brady runs for the first.

First Patriot screen pass of the day to Stallworth, but the pass is a little low and Stallworth doesn't scoop it. Incomplete.

Randy Moss certainly seemed fast enough on a go route down the sideline. Big pickup on second and ten, and the Pats are in scoring territory.

the real Randy Moss would've scored on that catch - 1 defender to beat in open space, not sure if he's 100%

Moss doesn't look like his usual explosive self in terms of breakaway speed but he's pretty much carving up Barrett today purely on strong route running.

The "injured" Moss still looks better than anyone they had last year. And then Moss snags another one for about 25 on the left side.Four catches for 87 so far.

Can't remember where I read it, but apparently Moss is the same old Moss he just takes longer to hit top speed. It showed on that play.

Seems right in line with what we're seeing today. He may have lost a step but he's still too good to single-cover with anyone except the very best CBs.

Moss plucks another one out of the air, 4 catches for 87 yards in the first half. But he's out on first and goal from the six. Maroney in and gets the carry for one yard. Maroney stopped again in the goal line package on second and five. Stallworth is the only receiver on the field in the goal line package this time, while Welker was earlier and Moss appeared to have come out for the blow after back to back long receptions.

The play is correctly being reviewed, because he bobbled the catch as he landed, but he held on to it, and his shoulder was down in bounds while he had complete control before his butt went out the back of the endzone.

I can't see any chance of this being overturned.

Watson TD.Man, Brady looks SHARP. Threaded that one in there.
I actually was thinking Brady wasn't looking up to snuff, maybe just start of the season issues - but with the protection he's getting Pats should have 21 at least.

He's only thrown one bad ball that I can remember - The WR screen that he bounced to Stallworth. Everything else has been pretty much right on the money. Welker has dropped two balls...

So maybe the receivers just simply aren't getting open? Brady has had as much time as he wants on every passing play, years past that usually meant Branch or someone getting open deep.

We must be watching a different game. 12-17, 159 yds, 2 TDs in the first half? Not sure what more Brady could do so far in your opinion.

Not something you expect to hear about Randy.
Remember Dillon?Players know to get their #### in line when they come to NE. They're willing to suck up the ego if it means they're first in line for a ring. Randy's not stupid.. he'll fall in line. Looking like he could be a HUGE steal this year going in the 3rd-5th rounds.

In short, the Jets front 7 looks TERRIBLE in the passing game. I'm wondering why Brady doesn't have 4 TDs in the first half.

According to Mike Reiss from the Boston Globe:

A look at the number of snaps the Patriots receivers have played in the first half:

Jabar Gaffney -- 24

Randy Moss -- 21

Wes Welker -- 15

Kelley Washington -- 7

Donte' Stallworth -- 6

Interesting.

Drive 1: TDDrive 2: Drive dies when Welker drops an easy first down catch, right off the hands.Drive 3: Botched hold on FG.Drive 4: TD :wall:

Sorry, that makes sense -- I need to pay more attention I guess

Brady was 9 for 11 at one point and IIRC those 2 were Welker drops. Doesn't get any better than that from a QB

And Wood was giving me grief for taking the Pats D high in a staff draft (that rewards low points and low yards, BTW).

That defense looks as good as ever, even w/o Harrison and Samuel - - par for the course, Belichik gets production from the entire roster.

IDPers take note: Nantz mentions that Meriweather came in in the second half. I haven't noticed him on the field so far so I think this is his first actoin.

Pennington limping badly after that sack. Falls down trying to walk off the field, trainers out to help him and he hops off on one leg. Looks bad.
